Just Returned Home from Tidelands and Want to Go Back! Now!
"Our family of seven had an exceptional 6-night vacation experience at Tidelands 1942 after Christmas. The condo was much larger than I expected and since it is on the fourth (top) floor the high ceilings were a pleasant surprise. It is a beautifully decorated and extremely clean unit. In fact the entire Tidelands development is pristine. Tidelands is a large development of detached single family homes and condos (view on Bing Maps). Beautiful landscaping and grounds. There is a large covered pier on the river with tables and benches. Large shade trees line the river and sandy walkways for pleasant strolls. There are biking and walking trails throughout the development, ponds with fountains, two large and beautiful pools with sun-shaded tables. Tidelands seemed nearly deserted.
There is a lot to do and see in the area. Many other beautiful resorts, golf courses, 30 min to St Augustine, 40 min to World Golf Village, 1 hr to Jacksonville. We drove south on A1A a couple of miles from the condo one afternoon when the temp was about 73 degrees and sunny. We stopped at the public access at Varn Park to the beautiful beach... also nearly deserted.
We did have a few difficulties. We did not receive the lockbox combo via email but I eventually reached someone by phone at Vacation Rental Pros who gave me the combo. When we arrived near midnight at Tidelands we had the proper address of the unit in our Garmin GPS but it took us to the wrong entrance. A sign there directed us to the correct entrance up the road. At the main entrance you are stopped at a gate and you will need to insert your driver's license in the machine and a security guard will scan your ID while viewing you on camera and asking questions about your visit. It took quite a while for them to find us in their computer system. Finally we were allowed to pass through all three gates! They do not allow parking of boats or trailers on site so the next morning I had to take my 10' cargo trailer to a rental unit (Hammock Hardware) and pay $10 per day for storage during our stay. Also, the owner did not leave us the key fob for our access to the pools and fitness center. The management office was only open 2 hours per day, three days a week and did not return my calls. Finally I was able to find someone who worked there but they would not give us a key fob without the owner's approval (which I did not pursue). Otherwise it was a wonderful vacation for all of us."
