  • Perfect Memorial Day Getaway

"We stayed at Emily's house over the Memorial Day weekend. The house was the perfect setup for us and our teenage boys - everyone had their own space but there was also plenty of "family space". The fenced back yard was great for out dog! Emily was great to work with! We would definitely stay again!"

  • A true gem and very special place

"This home on the Florida coast was an amazing getaway. I truly cannot say enough about our vacation on this beach, in this house. I will say the house layout was different than I anticipated, felt more like a very large beach cottage - the kitchen and living space were combined into a massive room. The first floor has 3 bedrooms (no tvs) and 1 shared bathroom, the upstairs was a master suite with a tv and bath. This actually worked perfectly for our family needs. We didn't really use the downstairs game room, the kids were a bit too young to want the separation from us - but it was convenient for the little ones to shower off the sandy beach in that bathroom in the evenings. Our family consisted of 5 adults and 2 children - aged 5 & 7. The beach was amazing. We were there in early August, plenty of heat and sunshine, and yet the beach was quiet and private. A few neighbors occasionally passed by, but truly, it felt wonderfully private. Plenty of opportunities to be alone with your thoughts as you wander the shore. It reminded me a lot of the Carolina beaches, with the lovely tides and smooth sands. The house was one of the nicest ones on this portion of the beach, and has had recent updates which made it fresh and clean. The deck on this house is the real selling point. Beautifully appointed, with a big dining table for evening dinners overlooking the ocean and plenty of daytime seating. We couldn't get enough of it. Plenty of sea turtle nests (we had the pleasure/worry of watching some baby turtles emerge - though some had come out during the daytime which was a worry as the heat/sun is too much for the babies. A few didn't make it. The neighbors were knowledgeable and attentive - we had the authorities called in to look after the confused nest and saved those we could.) But as you can see, a once in a lifetime experience. The area has plenty of local restaurants to try out and St. Augustine was adorable, it was only about 10-15 minutes to get anywhere you needed (groceries, dining, St. Augustine). We even took a day trip out to the Kennedy Space Center - an absolute MUST. Truly, if you are looking for a family beach vacation spot that will offer privacy and quiet, but have access to the fun of restaurants and activities, this is the house and the spot you are looking for. Every one of our family members (even the kiddos) have expressed the desire to return."

  • Great property - great owner

"The house is well-kept, with most everything you could need. From pots and pans to beach umbrellas and toys, it's probably already there. If it's not, the owner will likely get it for you in a day or two if you just ask. It's up-to-date with multiple flat-screen TV's, cable, internet/wifi, new kitchen appliances, and central A/C that works great. Downstairs you'll find kayaks (and life-jackets), boogie boards, chairs, umbrellas, and a variety of beach toys for the littlest kids. Bring your clothes and some food, and you'll be set. The interior layout is very convenient. The kitchen overlooks the dining and living rooms, and the view continues out through the sliding glass doors to the deck and ocean beyond. Someone commented that they felt they were on a cruise ship when they looked outside. Even if you are stuck doing dishes, the window over the sink looks out over the marsh, with beautiful sunsets. Each side of the house has two bedrooms and a bath. (We didn't rent the downstairs). The kids' room, with the four bunk beds, was great. Furnishings and linens are not fancy but all in good shape, and the house was clean on arrival. The decor is "beachy" without being tacky. Outside, there is a large driveway with plenty of parking (at least six cars). The exterior could use a little sprucing up, but the rest of the house more than makes up for that first impression. The full-length upper deck is accessible from both front bedrooms and the living room and it always has a nice breeze in the afternoon and evening. There is a another deck area downstairs, but we didn't use it much. Access to the beach is quick, though for those with mobility issues, or who are just unsteady on their feet, you should know there is a stairway down to the ground level, and then a moderately steep bank of soft sand (though its only a couple of feet high) to negotiate. Our younger and middle-aged guests had no problems with it, though some older guests needed a steadying hand. The stretch of beach itself is great. Few people, wide at low tide (but still usable at high tide), with firm sand to play on and enough shells to hunt to entertain the kids. Finally, we can't say enough about the owner. From our long initial phone call, to the multiple emails walking us through the rental process, to his near-immediate responses to our questions or concerns, he was great. He is proud of his house, and it shows."

  • Gorgeous!

"Don't know where to start to describe how fantastic this place is. We spent 12 days for family vacations there in August. Renting the place was very smooth... thank you Darlene for your messages and your continued attention to details! The house is perfectly located, literally on the beach. We took all of our breakfast on the deck, watching for pelicans and dolphins. Swam once, twice, sometimes three times a day... so easy to go for a swim and get back home. The beach is all sand, clean and very quiet (no public access nearby). House has everything you could need, all utensils for cooking, wifi is good (believe me we had 3 teens with us...), and the home furniture is nice, creating a relaxing beach house atmosphere. If you get bored with sand and waves then St Augustine has a lot to offer. Very nice old town. Recommend a few restaurants there: Mam Thai & Sushi Bistro and The Floridian. Make sure to get a popsicle from Hyppo, with original flavors, all from fresh fruits. Also enjoyed spending some time at the Cutter & Cutter Art Gallery. We'll be back!"
