  • Marvelous Estate/Retreat

"Are you ready to escape to the beauty of “Old” Florida. The way Florida used to look before strip malls and concrete covered over her history and majesty. Then you have chosen the right place with this rental. It begins in the front yard which is draped in giant Live Oaks, wearing their moss like a long beautiful mane of hair, testaments of strength and time. You are greeted with gentle breezes off the lake in the morning, as you have your coffee on the large covered veranda. You will glance across the lake, and see the white blooms on the lily pads, dancing in the mid-morning sun. The sandhill cranes fly in to feed on the acorns and along the water’s edge, tall and prehistoric looking. The blue heron, white egret, and mallard ducks, all make their visits to the premise, a wonder to behold. Each evening you will be greeted with amazing sunsets, dining on the table at the dock as the water reflects the brilliant pinks and oranges of the setting sun. You will watch the fish skip across the surface of the lake and if you are lucky, you will see the frogs hopping and swimming in and around the grasses along the bank. Drink your wine or cast a line as you enjoy the end of your day. The house is roomy and comfortable and evokes images of the Southern lifestyle of yesteryear. Privacy abound and extremely peaceful, at least in the month of April. The kitchen is very large and comfortable to work in. The bed was most comfortable though I only used 1 of the 10 offered. There is a TV in every room but I was so fascinated with the outdoors, I did not even turn one on. AT&T cell service was 4 bars all week and internet worked great. Things to Note: The a/c is pre-programmed to stay at 74 degrees Fahrenheit or above which can make sleeping uncomfortable for some. I might suggest bringing some fans, they also help with keeping mosquitos away on the porch. Bring your bug spray or fan, this is Florida. The sign marking the house is parallel with the street so easy to miss."

  • Remarkable

"Well appointed. The condo was beautiful, the 3 bedrooms were perfect for two adult couples and two children. The layout was perfect for comfortable privacy and fun time spent together. We were able to make a "from scratch" Thanksgiving meal with the tools available in the kitchen. The laundry room was a helpful benefit being at the beach. I will gladly recommend this property to other travelers and look forward to using it again for my family. My mornings were spent sitting on the boardwalk bench to the beach, enjoying the sunrises, watching the birds and visiting with the turtles keeping me company. Spectacular."

  • Very nice, great for a family

"We stayed with our family of 4 (2 boys, 4 and 1). Very nice place that was quite convenient...especially being on the first floor. Appreciate the usage of the beach chairs and a few toys that came with the place. A couple pieces of advice to renters: the place has a Keurig coffee maker only; and the only food/ cooking supplies provided are salt and pepper. Keep that in mind if you do a grocery run before you show up! All in all a great experience and we would definitely come back. Thanks to the owners for opening up your space and providing such a nice environment for us."

  • Very Nice Beach Cottage

"We arrived just before Christmas 2016. Great location, right on the beach, short walk to the shoreline, great view. We loved the atmosphere, very quaint and large wooden deck and screened in patio were nice touches. Older property, so the bathrooms are very tiny, in fact had to sit almost sideways on the north side bathroom and had to remove the roll of toilet paper to be somewhat "comfortable." The other bathroom is a tiny bit larger, but not much. Showers, no tubs. Everything worked ok, just dated appliances and such, but they work. Nice feel to the living area and the TV gets many good cable channels. Lots of very cool tortoises that live around the dunes, great fun looking at them :) Overall a very nice stay. Just a couple of things that could make it better: If you don't have a daily cleaning service, you should leave enough towels for four or five people. One set for each is not enough if staying for a week or so since there is no washer or dryer in the cottage. We had black ants in the kitchen and the bathrooms. Not overrun, but they were scouting. In damp areas, I feel you need to treat for pests monthly, so it needs a treatment, now. There were old asphalt shingles strewn about the grassy areas in front and the front circle driveway. We realize the hurricane caused it, but time to pick it up and throw the shingles in the garbage. The deck had a persistent wasp trying to make a nest under it, etc. The decking and railing, etc. are old, so in time, it will rot through and become a step hazard. At some point, it would be good to have the railing replaced to avoid splinters and possible breakage from normal use. It was OK for us, so not urgent, but should be addressed. There was also only one roll of toilet paper for each bathroom. Not enough for 5 or 6 people for a week. We realize we have to buy stuff to cook and basic stuff, but in the hotel industry, the hotel or rental should provide the toilet paper. One small bar of soap, no shampoo or anything for the bathrooms, so it is bare bones. Providing it would be cheap and a nicer, more hospitible touch, but I guess soap is too expensive? The only other thing that would make it a 5 star vs a 4 star is that it would be really great to have a hot tub on the deck so that you could watch the ocean and take a hot tubber, but that is optional and would not prevent us from visiting again. :) Old St. Augustine is a short 4 mile drive to the north and there are plenty of places to eat and shop."
