"My wife and I recently spent 8 wonderful nights in Destin with our four children, ages 11,8, and twin 3s. We had never been to the area before and I can honestly say that choosing this rental was the best decision we made. The first thing you need to know about it is that there is plenty of fun to be had within walking distance. This includes private beach access, a pool just outside the front door, a good breakfast restaurant adjacent to the property entrance, a beach supply store next to the restaurant, and even some very good freshwater fishing in the private lake (we caught dozens of bream in the 1 lb range and largemouth bass in the 1-3 lb range). There is a Winn Dixie and a few other restaurants across the main road as well, so you could conceivably enjoy most of your vacation without driving much at all. When you do decide to leave, you'll find that the unit is located in the heart of the area's activity. Destin's attractions are laid out in a line along US Hwy 98 and the rental is pretty much in the middle of those . The harbor (which is very nice but toursity) is about 2 miles to the west, the Destin Commons shopping area is a few miles to the east, and the big Kahuna Water Park is practically right across the street. Although the traffic can be very bad, we found the location to be perfect.
The unit itself is very clean, comfortable, and well laid out. The leather furniture is very comfy and the tv was great, making the downstairs a nice escape for my wife and I. The master suite has a walk-in closet and an extremely comfortable bed as well. My only complaint was that the wireless internet was a little slow, but that was no big deal. It was a great place for us to relax and we never once felt like anything was missing. Our large family never felt cramped and everyone loved it. The unit even has a back patio with a grill and table, but we chose to enjoy the A/C after long days in the sun.
The owner also added much to our trip. He was extremely accomodating to a few requests we made and he made us feel as though he sincerely valued our business. One of the beach attendants saw our unit number and even commented that we had chosen wisely by renting from "a great guy". After renting from him, I believe it, and I plan to be back.
Here are 2 tips:
1) You can park right by the beach if you don't feel like walking so dont let that dissuade you.
2) Eat at Stewby's seafood in Ft. Walton (trust me on this)"
