"From day 1, all I could really say was "staying in a house ON the beach is totally worth it!"
I love the ocean, but being from a land-locked state, get a bit weary of the hassle. NO MORE dragging snorkle gear & boogie boards from a hot parking lot -and getting BACK in that car after a long day of sun, sand, & salt!!
The house was great & the beach was NOT crowded - just looking down shore at the public beaches made us realize how blessed we truly were. We had our OWN section of the beach with umbrellas & chairs that DIDN'T fall over (and have to be dragged, sand encrusted, back to my vehicle!) The water was crystal-clear & gorgeous.
We had 3 generations: 3 adult couples and 7 kids (8 was the youngest) - plus our Great Dane and my in-laws' Pomeranian (no dogs on the beach, in Destin, though). There was plenty of room in the common spaces, and nice bedrooms when we wanted more privacy. The small community was gated & had security, so the kids could ride bikes, go crabbing, and walk the dogs with no worries.
Destin Commons was a short drive away for shopping & some Kilwin's ice cream. 🍧 Walmart, Whole Foods, and Fresh Market (yay) were all close. We were close to Destin proper, but not in the horrid city traffic. 😄
We watched dolphin many times and saw a turtle from our deck. We got to swim with rays and saw a striped burr fish one time -right there. You can rent paddle boards & kayaks 40 yards from your beach chairs, and the house garage contains many boogie boards, inflatables and 2 bikes for guests to use. The convenience is AWESOME!
I can't recommend this home highly enough -especially for the price. Michael is fantastic, and will make you feel like welcomed guests to his home."
