  • Still a wonderful, homey place to stay right near the most peaceful beach I've ever visited

"First, let me say that Mexico Beach itself is a small, quaint town, and is a very peaceful place to take a vacation. My grandmother and I have been frequent visitors for over 20 years, and we particularly enjoy laying on the beach watching the sand crabs and the waves and watching the spectacular sunsets. If you want to stay in a place that's hoppin' with excitement, this is NOT it. But if you want a peaceful stay in a place that is close enough to excitement for several day trips (Panama City is only about a half hour away), Mexico Beach is the place. Though we've been to the area many times, this was only my family's second visit to Double Chillin'; we stayed once previously in 2012. We found the property just as comfortable, convenient, and well kept as on our last stay. If you're looking for posh or luxurious, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for a home away from home for a week or two, with all the things you need to be comfortable (sheets and blankets, pots and pans, dishes, towels, etc.), and all just a few blocks from a lovely beach - look no farther. We were settled in with groceries purchased from Port St. Joe's Piggly Wiggly the first evening, and ready to just kick back and enjoy our stay. I enjoy the little quirks of the rental: the beach-themed wall hangings, books and magazines scattered throughout, family games and movies in the living room, and the pool table, which my daughter was old enough this visit to truly enjoy. Only 5 of us went: myself, my gran, my fiance, our daughter, and her best friend. We could easily have fit 2 or 3 more people without feeling crowded. The best part, in my opinion, is the large tub in the master bath (which does take some time to fill, but is worth the wait!), and the large screened front porch with table and chairs as well as comfy chairs and loveseat perfect for reading or chatting. We finished our trip off with a Sunday morning visit to a church service on the beach - not to be missed. I am not a churchy person, but the service was so natural, welcoming, and totally unique that I felt right at home. All in all an awesome stay. We will be back!"

  • When they say "steps from the beach," they mean it!

"We had a nice stay at this property. I can't say enough good things about Kelly - we've never rented a vacation home from an owner who is more accommodating and responsive. Be sure to stop by Shoobie's ice cream (5 min. drive up the street). They're closed 3-4 days per week, so visit Friday - Sunday when they're likely to be open. The closest large supermarket is the Piggly Wiggly in Port St. Joe - a bit of a drive. If you have specific grocery brands you like, you might not find them at Piggly Wiggly - choices are limited, and fruit freshness left a lot to be desired. If you want some great fresh shrimp, try the Shell Shack, which is a 2 minute walk from the house. It's a gift store/fish market - they sold us some of the best shrimp I've ever eaten. Great pizza (with excellent gluten free crust as a bonus!) at Joe Mama's Pizza in Port St. Joe. I'll start with the good stuff: 1) This property is SO CLOSE to the beach. We traveled with children ages 4-11 and needed the walk to the beach to be as easy and simple as possible. This property delivered 100%. 2) The views from the shared balcony were just lovely. 3) The second bedroom was perfectly equipped for our 3 kids. It's sometimes hard to find a two bedroom house with enough beds in the second bedroom to comfortably sleep three, but this one was perfect. The drawbacks to are few, and none are major on their own. But they bear mentioning: 1) The kitchenware needs help. The house advertises that it sleeps up to 8, but even with our party of 5, we found it a bit hard to cook with the available options. At a minimum, the house could benefit from a big pasta pot and a proper colander/strainer. (The strainer available was a hand-held one more suited to rinsing fruit than handling a pound plus of pasta.) The house also needs a new dish drainer. The one available under the sink was not something you'd put clean dishes in. That said, there were plenty of actual dishes, plates and silverware - which you frequently don't find in a rental. 2) There is no drawer large enough to hold the silverware. We ended up putting the silverware holder right on top of the counter. This was not ideal as it got in the way of food prep. 3) The pantry door is coming off the hinges. We just left it alone and didn't put food in there because I didn't want my kids to open that heavy door and have it fall on their toes. A minor repair is needed. All around a very good stay - glad we visited!"

  • Quiet, and relaxing beach getaway

"This was our second summer staying here, and we absolutely love it. We love that we are able to bring our dogs, and they have a nice backyard to enjoy. Unfortunately, the dog beach on the other side of the canal is closed till February 2017. The beach is just at the end of the street, and absolutely gorgeous. We saw a dolphin playing around one afternoon!! The house is always clean, and well maintained. I'm hoping to bring a group of friends down for a long weekend soon!"
