"We had booked a short vacation at Isle of Palms, near Charleston. Unfortunately, hurricane Matthew had other plans. With less than 24 hours to leave, I put in a request for this property. With less than a half hour before we wanted to leave, I called the owner and got her on the phone. She had not looked at her email yet and said she would call me back. Fifteen minutes later, we had a place at Mexico Beach and were in the car for an 8 hour journey.
The rental unit was easy to find. The building has only 5 units and this one was on the end. The fishing pier is less than a block away and the ocean views were perfect. The beach is quiet, clean, uncrowded with beautiful soft, white sand. Frost''s pottery garden is a block away and has huge clay pots and plants outside its doors. Inside are displays of jewelry by local artists and other neat items. You are only a few blocks from several dining options. Be aware that some of the restaurants only take cash, like Sharon's and Killer Seafood. The grocery store here is pretty limited..you want to go another 12 miles to Port St. Joe for the Piggly Wiggly. And when you cross the county line towards Port St. Joe, you are switching from the Central to Eastern time zone.
The unit is 3 floors. You park underneath, one car only, and step into a hallway with a refrigerator and a closet, which has an assortment of beach items. Up the stairs, and you are in a living room- kitchen combo. There is also a bedroom with a queen bed and bunk beds and a full bath. The third level has another bedroom with a queen and a full bath. And facing the ocean is a king bedroom that is huge. There is a full bath, a closet you could sleep in and a sitting area. There is also a small balcony to step out on for perfect views of the sunset. A hall closet contains a washer and dryer and an iron. Each bedroom has a nice sized TV. There are books, games and DVDs/VCR movies in the living room. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking. There is a small porch out the front with chairs and more space below. There is a picnic table underneath the unit for outdoor eating. The underneath area is big enough for playing games on a rainy day. There are 2 showers for rinsing off when you come off the beach. Although the furnishings look a little dated, the unit is clean and the beds and chairs are comfortable. Be sure to bring a hair dryer & soap for the bathrooms. It was fantastic!!!!!!!!!"
