  • heaven for the old and young

"We came down for a two-week working retreat with two kids (age 7 months and 2 years) and two Russian grandmas. The grandmas got into a rented minivan at the airport and refused to get back into the minivan until it was time to depart. They walked in the neighborhood, walked on the beach, or relaxed by the pool and were perfectly happy. (In fact they are ready any time to abandon Massachusetts for Florida!) If you want to be in this part of Florida this is a rare spot of single family beachfront homes that don't back right up to the busy A1A highway. Neighboring newly constructed beachfront houses are selling for $8 million and seeing a Ferrari parked out front is not uncommon. This house is an easy walk to a great fish taco place, a fantastic BBQ restaurant (Smoke), and a nice Greek place. You can also enjoy a 1-mile walk to Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, which has ice cream shops, bars, etc. Walk along the sand or on a not-busy road separated from the beach by the towers of Galt Ocean Mile. There is a 24-hour Walgreens a three-minute walk away. It is about a 5-minute drive to Rt. 1 and every possible chain store (Whole Foods, Target, Chick fil-A, AMC movie theater, etc.). The beach area in front of the house does get kind of busy because it is right next to the public access path. Don't expect solitude, especially on a nice-weather weekend day. The kitchen is complete, but hold the onions, fish, and garlic. There is no range hood, there are no windows that open, and there are no screens for the doors. Thus the only way to ventilate the house without letting flies in (there aren't too many but enough that you can't just leave doors open all day) is to turn on all of the bathroom exhaust fans. There is a Brinkmann gas grill ($130 at Home Depot?) outside, but it isn't large enough to cook a complete meal for an extended family. The Internet is super fast, which was great for working. There is a public bike share location two blocks away (at A1A) but the traffic is too intense on most of the streets in South Florida to enjoy recreational biking (too bad because the terrain and weather are perfect!). Certainly a bike is fun for a few miles around the neighborhood and up and down the Galt Ocean Mile. Mirtha is nice and also responsive. Book soon because if the climate change alarmists are right this house will be reclaimed by the sea soon!"

  • Gorgeous Ocean Front View!

"LOVED the view from the balcony while reading in the gravity chair! The inside decor was appealing and modern - the couch was comfy, the kitchen although small had everything you needed and newer appliances. The onsite Tiki Bar served GREAT food and drinks. The valet parking was reasonable at $8/day compared to other facilities and the beach chair rental also a good value at $5/day. Mai Kai Polynesian, La Bamba Mexican, and 15th Street Fisheries restaurants were choices we made that were excellent! Rose and Neil provided wonderful service and follow-up. Had a wonderful time! I would definitely rent the condo again if returning to Fort Lauderdale!"

  • Great Location!

"My wife and 3 daughters stayed here for 4 nights. We were excited to escape the Wisconsin winter and this was a great place to stay. It is located in a nice spot just a block off Las Olas Blvd which makes it super convenient if you want to walk to any bars or restaurants, there are many just a stones throw away. There is also a nice park on the river just 4 blocks away which my kids enjoyed walking to and building fairy houses. :) Of course the thing they loved the most was the heated pool. It is surrounded by lush tropical vegetation which makes it feel fairly private despite the neighboring properties being so close. There are many lounge chairs, a grill, and a patio table for dining outside. They have a few pool toys like noodles and wake boards which is a nice touch. There is even a large area of sand adjacent to the pool which gave our kids a chance to build sandcastles. The interior of the home was spacious enough for everyone to spread out. It was very clean. There are flat screen TV's in all of the bedrooms and living room area. They are "smart" TV's so you can even log into your Amazon or Netflix accounts if you need some downtime for the kids to watch movies. I would say our only disappointment of the home would be the kitchen. It is fairly small and cramped. The amount of silverware was quite light (only 5 forks!) along with a fairly scant selection of dishes and cookware. The pots and pans were also in poor condition......could definitely use some upgrades. Overall, this was a great place to getaway and entertain the kids. The layout of the home is a bit quirky (my kids counted 7 doors to the outside) but is comfortable and cozy. A nice location close to the beach and local entertainment. Thanks Justice for allowing us to stay at your cottage!"
