  • Relaxing and comfortable

"If what you want from a vacation is sun, sea, relaxation and all the comforts you need to help you enjoy that then this rental is for you. The owners, Toni and Mike were, once again, extremely helpful and accommodating and the house gave us an excellent base with everything we needed for a great vacation. North Captiva is one of those places that you want to keep secret yet shout about because it is so fantastic if you like relaxing by the pool, walking on the beach or watching the sunset as you fish from the shore. If you like night life and action then perhaps this place is not for you but this was our fifth visit to the island and second to this house and we are already looking forwards to a return trip next year."

  • Best cottage on the key!

"I believe this is the best cottage on the key. We loved it here so much we looked at properties and spoke to a realtor. Shells By The Beach is by far the nicest with a perfect location - and we got to stay there! The owner has EVERYTHING you might need. I cannot think of one suggestion, all I have is compliments. I'm home now wondering where I can install an outdoor shower and looking at paint swatches to add some pinks and blues to my décor. Our family of 4 included an 18 yr old male and 12 yr old female. The bikes were utilized constantly and we felt relaxed with the slow speed limit and relaxed setting. Both kids want to return and that says a lot. We beached in the state park and happily dropped in the $2/bike ($3/car) fee for the pristine beach and facilities. However, each evening we just walked across the street for a dip and the sunset. Thank you for a wonderful week. (An afternoon on rented jet skis was a fun splurge.)"

  • Very nice!

"Booked originally for 2 weeks - ended up being able to stay a few more days. The owners were very responsive and flexible, from the time we first requested the rental to getting our damage deposit returned! Very convenient location - walking distance to a major grocery store (Publix) and restaurants, along with a 15 min drive to Anna Marie Island and the beach. Nicely decorated, plenty of space with nice screened-in porch. Internet and cable, washer and dryer, all worked well. Would definitely book again!"

  • Exceptional Florida Beach home

"WOW! I signed in to rave about our stay at this beautiful cottage and saw the verbiage of the last person rating this home. They were there the week prior to our arrival. We arrived March 13 and I’m shocked and puzzled to see their comments. Our experience was no where near the dismal explanation of their stay and experience. We loved the sophistication and the charm of this elegant cottage. It is decorated with antiques and Persian rugs that are antique, but not in need of repair or replacement. It is the decorating that gives this cottage a charm of days gone past. The wood paneled ceiling was charming and not your usual white on white new beach house that is common and not what we wanted for our vacation. We did not smell any “urine” odors and we found the cottage extremely clean with crisp linens upon arrival. We especially loved the bath sheets the owner provided instead of the usual bath towels. The spreads were not in need of replacement as stated and we were extremely pleased with the home. The grounds were not in need of upkeep. We were having such an amazing time on the beach and around the pool, we did not have time to truly inspect the details of the landscaping, but the grounds were in no way impeding our enjoyment of our vacation. The “wooden shutters” that the prior occupant describes are “Bahama shutters” that are there for protection from hurricanes in the front bedroom and on one side of the home. They certainly are typical to Florida for style and era. I’m certain that this person has minimal experience with homes on Anna Maria that are outfitted with the style of shutters on older homes. The shutters in no way distracted from our stay and provided extra privacy. The pool cover edges were slightly disintegrated, but in no way interfered with our enjoyment of the large heated pool. We have rented other villas in the past with “heated” pools, and this home truly does have a heated pool. Most don’t get up to the comfortable temperature of this pool. The toilet seat in one bathroom had some scratches on the paint of the seat, but in no way was in need of replacing. The grounds had a few weeds, but the trees and the flowers were gorgeous. This home is privately fenced and provides amazing privacy for our family, especially from the pool area. The beach view is a few steps to the gate and once you open the gate, “VOILA” you see the gorgeous beach. Jana was an extremely helpful hostess and I just don’t understand the comments about her"
