Recent Florida South West reviews

  • Spacious, clean, renovated, great location.

"We were surprised by the spaciousness of this home - lots of room for everyone, even if you had 6 people. It was clean, uncluttered, and seems to have been recently renovated in key areas (mainly bathrooms). Despite some of the older reviews, there ARE two full bathrooms, and 3 real bedrooms - one HUGE master bedroom with a full bath (shower, no tub), and a suite of 2 bedrooms (one with a queen bed, the other with 2 smaller beds) with it's own full bathroom. There is a very large living room, a decent kitchen, and dining area. The large screened-in porch overlooks the back yard. There is a garage with washer/drier and bits of outdoor equipment. The location couldn't be better. It is 2 short blocks to the Venice beach entrance. It's also a nice (but long) walk to the Venice town center, along shaded Venice Avenue. Only 3 things bump this rental down from a 5-star rating: First, the scarcity of basic supplies in the house. Other units we've rented in recent history have had paper towels, basic condiments in the fridge this sort of things handy. There was some of this for us - dishwashing detergent, shower supplies, that sort of thing, but it was pretty sparse outside of the bathroom. If these things are in the garage somewhere, we didn't find them. Also, there are some minor repairs needed - one of the screened-in porch panels lacks screen, and so this is really an open porch. Various knobs are loose or missing, and some broken/missing tiles in the kitchen are just covered in a small rug. Lastly, there is a lot of evidence of mice (droppings) in the garage, and we heard odd noises at night. These down-sides are relatively minor, and ought to be easily rectified."

  • Lovely condo in a quiet well maintained condo association

"My wife and I spent March, 2016 in this unit. The condo is very clean and exactly as represented in the photos. The kitchen is well stocked with nice dishes and high quality cookware. King bed is very comfortable. We didn't use the murphy bed but if you need to it can be partitioned off for privacy. Air conditioning worked well. Nicely heated pool right out your backdoor. Association's private gulf beach is about a 3 minute walk and beach chairs are already there so you don't have to carry with you. There is a bike/hike path that runs the entire length of Longboat Key. There are two restaurants (including the very nice Bayou Bar) within a 10 minute walk and numerous others within a 10 minute drive. The main supermarket is a great Publix about a 10 to 15 minute drive and there are a couple of convenience stores closer. Cell phone coverage on Longboat Key can be iffy at times- regardless of carrier- but the condo has a land-line if need be. Owners are very responsive. This is a great place to stay."

  • Great Condo with Gulf View

"September 2016 - Our first time using Home Away and didn't know what to expect. We were totally pleased with the condo and the view of the Gulf. The condo was very clean and tidy. It had basically every thing you need to make you feel at home. there was even Beach chairs and umbrellas to use at beach which made it nice not having to bring ours. Bill the owner was awesome to work with and very responsive. The building was secure! There was a couple of things that wasn't a show stopper but felt i needed to mention. During the week in september we were there, they had construction going on, on the building we were at. luckily it was on the side and back of the building from us. It was noisy at times but nothing we couldn't handle. Also, the construction people held up the elevators when we were out one day and there was no other way into the building. I tried calling the emergency number provided to us in our room but no one answered and there was no voice mail option. We were stuck out of the building for a little while until we were able to get them to let elevators down. I kind of wish we had notice of the construction on the building prior to our trip so we could have been prepared. The view of the gulf is awesome from the balcony. Nice to relax and watch the birds and dolphins. The beach in front of the condo is not easy to get to. You have to trek through water to get to it bu its great for shell hunting but not for laying out. We loaded up car and drove about 1/2 mile to beach access area for a better beach experience. Which we didn't mind.. parking was good this time of year but may be a little tricky in busier times. Overall we were please and enjoyed our stay . We plan to do it again.. Thanks.."
