  • Clean, convenient and great value

"We enjoyed our stay at Lori's guest cottage. It's very well equipped, comfortable, clean & convenient to everything we needed during our trip. The convenience to Lake Mayer's walking trail was a nice bonus as we always go there for exercise when visiting Savannah. The beds were also very comfortable. The only negative was that the property description says it comes with basic cable but it's actually on an antennae and we could only get about 8 channels- most of which are random. I am sure most people don't go to Savannah to stay inside wachng TV so I assume 90% of the time this would not be a problem but my family is from Savannah (i.e. not tourists), visiting for a wedding during bowl game season so it came as quite a surprise when we were unable to watch any of them that weren't on one of only two network channels we received. I think basic cable now-a-days means everything but the premium movie channels to most people (like ESPN, Fox Sports, etc) so they should probably just edit that in the ad to avoid confusion. Any other time this was unlikely to have been an issue and the stay was otherwise great. We never met Lori (owner) as she was out of town but check in and out was made extremely easy, the area felt very safe and the back yard of the home is lovely. There are two rental units at this property and they are very close to each other & the main home so if you want complete privacy just know that in advance but it didn't bother us. Newcomers to Savannah should also be aware that the water has a very strong sulphur smell, esp. in this unit but Lori gives you a heads up about it in the welcome book and it is in fact clean, just strong. This was definitely a comfortable place to stay and I would be happy to book here again."

  • Great Cabin for a large group w/outstanding views

"The photos of this home simply do not do it justice. This cabin quite literally goes on for days & there are views from every window you pass by. It was hard not to trip on something walking through the house during the day because you can't help but turn your head to look out the windows. It was just the 2 of us on our 1st anniversary trip & it was definitely way too big for only 2. It was so big Val was able to get her cardio workout in by walking up & down the 3 levels of stairs and through the house for 30 min. It was quite the workout. We booked this particular cabin for the views, the hot tub, & the covered out door fireplace. We spent almost every night with a soak in the hot tub then warmed our toes in front of the outdoor fireplace. We began every morning before dawn in front of the fireplace until the first rays of the sun began to light up the mountains. The property was super clean and decorated beautifully. Val appreciated the little step stool in the master bedroom since she is only 5'3 she definitely needed some help climbing into the very tall bed. We spent a lot of time in the kitchen (we never ate out once on our trip)...& ran into a few hiccups. We were unable to find a sharp knife anywhere in the kitchen. Since we prepare all our meals when we travel we even started comparison shopping online for a good travel set of kitchen knives due to this. We found several plates had nicks & chips in them, and the crock pot didn't have a lid but we were able to find the lid of another pot that worked well enough. Val was excited there was a telescope in the basement but was then disappointed when we tried to use it as a piece is missing making it unusable. The string of lights out on the covered part of the deck were very romantic but only a few strands would light up which was also a little sad. We loved the huge master bath shower but with no ledge or bench it makes it difficult for the ladies to shave their legs. Overall we very much enjoyed our time in the cabin and feel it is a good value for as many people can be accommodated. Which is why we still rate it 5 stars. We only felt we expected a little more for the price we paid...it's the little things like the broken telescope, chipped plates, no sharp knives or even a nice matching cookware set, & no bench in the shower that seemed to chip away at the value for us. We have stayed in several vacation rentals in the past & are comparing these things to our past experiences with them."
