  • Lovely & quiet vacation home on peaceful farm

"Super comfy bungalow on a lush green farm with flowers, fruit trees, and chickens and sheep. The home is beautifully equipped with a big flat screen tv and washer & dryer. It sits a few minutes from town on the edge of the lush rolling meadows in Paniolo country. Wonderful front porch complete with cute chameleons. Cool nights and warm days. Tommy & Micci are warm and friendly hosts. This is a great base camp to explore the north coast, Pololu Valley & Mauna Loa. Hapuna Beach & Puako are 20 minutes away for great snorkeling & body boarding. Plus, in town are great meals at Merrimans and Red Water. Great stay!"

  • Beautiful Sunrises

"We thoroughly enjoyed our four night stay in this spacious, nicely decorated home with its wonderful ocean view. The location north of Hilo provides a quiet, peaceful get-away but is convenient to attractions such as Akaka Falls, Waipi'o valley, Pahoa and Kilauea Volcano Park. The three of us were very comfortable. We enjoyed the tropical garden and especially the beautiful sunrises each morning. Hale Hamakua is a very good value for the price. One tip: I would suggest stocking up on groceries in Hilo before you arrive."

  • great place - friendly people

"The house was a perfect location for us and exactly as described. The only problem we had during our stay was one night when the neighbor's new dog barked all night. Other than that, the house was perfect, and Gemma' hospitality was wonderful. I would highly recommend the house - I look forward to staying there again when I come back to the island."

  • Keolamaula is magical - an amazingly special place at an incredible value

"I know that's a lot of adjectives (above), but Kaye's farm is a real find. The location is perfect for exploring the Hamakua coast and beyond North Kohala to the West and Hilo to the south are easy to get to); the beds are comfortable; Bichi the pig and the other farm animals were charming; the weather (everything from sun to rain, never too hot) was great; and Kaye and Sally are wonderful people and perfect hosts. Our family (my spouse and I and our two six-year-old boys) had a great time and at the end of each day my littlest said "Mommy, I want to go home," meaning Keolamaula."
