  • A little bit of paradise

"We spent four days at the cottage and never stopped marveling at the jaw-dropping view. Tucked away at the end of a long driveway, privacy was complete. The cottage, as others have noted, is old (70's I would guess?) with furnishings of the era, but we wouldn't have it any other way! The effect was comfortable and sweetly nostalgic, with an overlay of Hawaiiana that is perfect for the place. The bed was comfortable and the cottage was very clean. We love to cook and were pleased to find that the kitchen was well-equipped with the basics. The only thing we would recommend adding is a charcoal grill. Since we cooked in most nights, we did not explore the limited dining offerings of the immediate area, but found the market in Honoka'a completely adequate for our needs. The little craft shop and Waipi'o van station on the road just before you arrive at the cottage carries the wonderful local Tropical Dreams Ice Cream-- a must eat! We drove to Waimea (not close, but not far either) for Sunday brunch at Merriman's, which we highly recommend. The Hamakua Coast is gorgeous, but not filled with "attractions". For the most part, we were content to explore the small towns and coastal access points. The Waipi'o Valley, the Pepe'ekeo Scenic Drive (along with the Onomea Bay Hike), and the Hawaii Tropical Botanic Garden were places we especially enjoyed. We also took the Hawaiian Vanilla Company tour, which was low-key and nicely done. (We would recommend touring in the spring when the vanilla plants bloom.) The lunch items, all made with vanilla, were delicious."

  • Perfect Stay in Paradise

"Marcie has thought of everything! The house was so well stocked that there was nothing we could think of that was not supplied. From beach towels to bakeware and everything in between. Thank you so much for making our stay so comfortable and so easy. We hope to return some day. Dave and Raquel Pasadena, CA."

  • Peaceful, Comfortable, & Convenient

"I spent 3 nights at the property. I found the host very accommodating, the facility spacious and clean, and the location perfect for my needs. I was there on business so I cannot speak about the recreational options, but I was aware of their existence. The bed was comfortable, there was a huge soaking tub, a stand alone shower, reliable wi-fi access, a kitchen with all necessary utensils, and satellite television--everything needed to make my stay very enjoyable. I would suggest that the host provide a microwave for the property but that would be my only complaint. Should the need arise I will seek out this property again. HF"

  • Fabulous farmstay

"This was our second time staying at Kaye's farm homestead, and we loved it just as much the second time. Kaye is a welcoming and responsive host--easily accessible if any issues arise. The house itself is comfortable and well-stocked for a home away from home, and the farm is gorgeous and peaceful. We had a great time roaming around the property with our son--making friends with the cats, feeding compost to the pig, and exploring--and the homestead makes a great homebase for day trips. Hope we'll be able to make it back for a third visit in the not-too-distant future!"
