  • Magnificent Vacation Getaway

"The Love Shack was the perfect island get-away for our family and friends. Located on a fairly remote road, we had privacy, but still were only 15 or 20 minutes from Hilo. The house is magnificent, easily sleeping the six adults in our party, plus a pack n play for our granddaughter. A futon made it easy for our friend's two grandchildren to stay some of the time. The absolute best part of this house is being able to lie in bed and watch the sun rise, see the waves crashing on the lava rock and hear the melodic sound of the ocean. The pool and hot tub provided much relaxation after a day of hiking or sight-seeing. I would have been content to sit by the pool with a book the entire week and never leave the house! Having an 18 month old with us, we were pleased to find a booster seat, strollers, and water floats and toys. While we didn't get a chance to use them, there were bikes available for our use. The house was well stocked with kitchen supplies. Our family stayed on the second level over-looking the deck and pool and straight in to the ocean. Having arrived right after the hurricane we were afraid of what we would find, but it was beyond our wildest dreams. We would definitely book this house again if we make it back to the beautiful island of Hawaii! The Emans/Balmer families"

  • Amazing house! Amazing view!

"Being the skeptic that I can be at times, before we left for the Big Island, I said "if this house is half as nice as the photos, I will be happy." Happily, my skepticism was not needed because the house is fantastic! The house was clean, comfortable, and fresh. The kitchen is stocked for real cooks, it had everything I needed to prepare meals for a crowd, which we did many times during our week stay. Coffee on the lanai, breakfast on the lanai, dinner on the lanai! (You get the picture!). This is a lovely, charming house, thank you, Sterling and Trish! When Hurricane Madeline threatened (but eventually became a typical storm), we learned the house had flashlights, candles, matches and lanterns. The ocean view, lanai, hot tub, and pool were enjoyed continually and just perfect. We spotted green sea turtles in the waves and swam in the pool under the stars. The Ohana Suite provided the extra space we needed for the group. While a bit of a drive from Hilo, with some grocery planning in advance, we didn't mind and loved the peace and quiet. We took morning neighborhood walks with an ocean view and met warm and friendly locals. Our other outings included Blue Hawaiian Helicopter ride, hikes in the Park, visit to black sands beaches in the south, and Akaka/Rainbow Falls, and more. When it was time to leave, we all agreed we wished we had booked more days. Great Big Island vacation in a very special house! Grace, Dave, and group"

  • Exactly what we needed!

"Cute condo near a lagoon. Very short walk to it. Just beautiful!! Kids loved it. Turtles everywhere. Condo has most necessities and is clean. Our main purpose was to visit the volcano and take a boat tour to see the lava enter the ocean. Done! Not a bad drive to get to each. The only reason for 4 stars is that it has no air conditioning. I'm from Texas and that is a basic life necessity here!!! However, it wasn't bad at all with the fans and windows open. We would go back again."

  • Astonding View Of Hilo BAY

"My wife and I stayed in this house in Hilo for two week from mid February to the beginning of March 2016. The property sits on the protected side of Hilo bay about 100 yards from the cruise ship and freight ship pier. While we were there, a cruise ship passed within a few yards of property; close enough to wave to the passengers on the upper deck. The view from the back yard into the bay is relaxing and pleasant. This is also the view seen from inside the living areas of the home because of the homes' unique open design. Facing the bay is the living room with an alcove with a 8 foot wide bay window. On the opposite side of the house is an identical alcove with a large dinning table and a 8 foot wide bay window. Between these is an outdoor protected deck with table and chairs. Behind the living and dinning areas is the kitchen with the cook top on a counter so that the person cooking has a direct view of the bay. We selected to fix all our meals at the house. The kitchen is a little dated but is spacious with plenty of counter and storage space. The kitchen is well equipped with pots and pans and utensils. The only thing missing from the kitchen is a large cutting board and potato masher. There are three spacious bedrooms at the front of the house away from the bay. The house is in a central location; it is half a block to the main road which takes you into town in one direction, and to several close by county beach parks in the other direction. Our favorite park was “ Carlsmith beach park” with a large grass area to sun yourself and large pools of perfectly clear waist high water protected by a lava rock breakwater to take a swim. While we were there, three sea turtles were constant companions. A quarter of a mile toward town this road intersects into a perpendicular highways which takes you to the volcano and the main shopping area. People will tell you that it is always raining in Hilo- Don't believe it! During our 14 day stay, 12 were sunny to mostly sunny days."
