  • perfect for one couple

"This condo is a corner unit in the Fairways group of condominiums. It is in a quiet area with a view of the golf course and distant palm trees silhouetted against the sky; it is set back from this view, which is not as good as its neighbors enjoy in the same condo group, and I think the "Best Views" of the property title is a little overblown. The outdoor patio has a gas grill, like the other units, and a dining table and two lounge chairs, and we ate outside quite a bit. Because of the patio orientation, however, there is no place to sit in the shade in the late afternoons in February and March, a disadvantage, and the air conditioning compressors from this and the adjacent unit are very noisy when one is sitting outdoors. The master bedroom has thin, difficult to draw, curtains. There are large closets (containing plenty of hangars but only one, sashless bathrobe), There is a good kitchen with all the appliances and utensils one might need. the master bathroom is large, although one of the two sinks wasn't working when we were there; this will certainly be an easy to fix issue. In the garage were two portable beach chairs, but that was about all in terms of extras. Considering everything, we had a very good stay here. the unit is the right size for a single couple, although there is a second downstairs bedroom and small bath. We could sacrifice the view for this unit's lower rental fee compared with the larger condos in the area. The South Kohala realty who managed the property were responsive and friendly. We stayed last year in an adjacent unit, and liked the area and this unit enough that we have rented it again for next year, shortcomings and all! This is a beautiful area of the Big Island. the condo comes with free access to the Mauna Lani Beach club, a lovely area to sit, swim, snorkel, and whale-watch. There is a well-stocked grocery store and restaurants a half mile away, and wonderful beaches and restaurants within a half-hour drive. We especially liked Merriman's and the Red Water Cafe in Waimea, The Blue Dragon and the Plantation Grill in the Kawaihae Harbor area, and the local Monstera for sushi and noodles."

  • Wonderful stay

"We had two families staying at the house. Plenty of room for all. Our experience was wonderful. No complaints whatsoever. Thank you, Leanne. We hope to be back again soon! Chloe from Los Angeles"

  • Fantastic Location for Families

"This Condo was absolutely fantastic! We came to the Big Island for a wedding and rented this unit with 2 other families. We had 6 adults, one toddler, and two infants (3 & 6 mos.) and stayed in the unit for 7 nights. First impressions: Clean spaces, easy transactions (door lock is electronic and codes are emailed to you), fully stocked kitchen (Including tupperware! A godsend that so many other rentals we have been in lack!), easy to understand guide booklet. BBQ works great. Second impressions: The layout works great for multiple families, even those with small children as one of the rooms has a trundle bed, and the unit comes with one pack-n-play. As far as kids waking others up in the night goes - it was amazing how sound-proof (well...resistant anyway) the walls were. Some of it was probably spending all day in the sun, some of it was probably gorging ourselves on food, but we all slept quite well even when the little ones woke up in the night. The pool is just a quick stroll from the unit and was quite nice. Third Impressions: The "private" beach that is part of the Mauna Lani properties is excellent, but in terms of overall ease, the beach at the Fairmont was within an 8 minute walk, and had a much calmer "cove" area where the kids could just sit on the sand and not get smacked around by waves. You are not allowed to use the lounge chairs/cabanas at the Fairmont (reserved for guests), but we easily made due with towels from the condo. The beach chairs and snorkel equipment (including fins!) provided were also great to have on hand. The condo also has tons of towels. Final impressions: This unit absolutely made our stay in Hawaii an A+ experience. While I'm sure there are plenty of nice units scattered about the island, we found this one to be absolutely perfect. Excellent price, excellent amenities & excellent location. The owner Carolyn was always very responsive via email and helpful with any of our concerns. If we travel to the island in the future with a group of people, this unit will be our first choice. No question."

  • Expansive views of golf course, water and sunsets

"For all of above, 5 stars. Caveat is that unit has deferred maintenance: window covering in second bedroom not working, built in micro probably non functionable for some time; (replacement micro on counter top), signs in kitchen ask you not to use trash compactor or garbage disposal. Light over washer/dryer out, also one light burned out on lanai. Light over shower in MB flashing continuously when in use. Few filters provided for coffee maker wrong size. Garden area at back of condo not well manicured. We used two bedrooms. Can't imagine any adults being comfortable in non private completely public great room on sleeper bed. Kohala Coast management cordial but unable to remedy any of the above except for replacing lightbulbs. We were told that a request for repair had been made, but apparently not fulfilled. Also for our 10 day stay was tough to swallow zero housekeeping for entire stay...substantial departure housekeeping charge should have bought at least a visit to change sheets! Icing on the cake was when I read that we were to launder ourselves any used beach towels, and wash off all items that were used at the beach. Oh, and, of course, minimal toilet paper, paper towels, dishwashing and laundry soap supplied. How expensive can it be to make sure travellers have what they need for the extent of their stay? Just one housekeeping visit would have mitigated this. We have stayed at least 10 times at Mauna Lani Point condos. But this is the first time that we have used VRBO and stayed without housekeeping at all. Lowers the value per dollars spent, previously have reserved with Classic Resorts with great success. This unit has tremendous potential, but is not maintained at the level the price would indicate. There is a lovely, well maintained heated community pool and hot tub area, protected from the wind. Also a very nice barbecue, lounging area for the Mauna Lani condo development."
