  • Wonderful Mauna Lani Palm Villas rental -- steps to the pool

"Our family (including two parents, two young kids, and a grandparent) was wowed by this beautiful ground floor condo at Mauna Lani Palm Villas. We were so glad to have this place to call "home" when we arrived, driving here from Kona Airport, exhausted by our 14-hour journey from New England. It is very clean and comfortable, and has air-conditioning for those hot afternoons! The unit has 3 BR, 2 BA, very well laid out. It was so convenient to have a washer-dryer in unit, for use after trips to the beach and pool. The lanai/patio adjacent to the golf course, was a favourite place to gather in the early mornings to eat breakfast and watch the sunrise. The garden is beautiful and features lush green tropical foliage, coconut palm trees and flowering plants. We saw several geckos and one huge praying mantis when we were there! The kids enjoyed playing in the garden, and in the huge driveway in front of the house. The unit is steps to the pool and the kids really enjoyed walking over to play in the pool. We also drove to the Mauna Lani Beach Club, and enjoyed swimming in the protected cove. It's great to be able to park at the "owner's/renter's" lot, which is so close to the beach. It's only a 10-15 minute drive to Mauna Kea beach, arguably one of the most beautiful, and relatively secluded beaches in the world! The boogie boards, beach chairs and umbrella in the garage, so generously provided by the owners, were wonderful to use on our trips to the famous Kohala coast beaches. We drove to the Hilton Waikoloa, Kawaihae, Hawi, Keokea beach park, Pololu Valley lookout, Waipio valley, and we would have loved to have gone snorkeling at Kua Bay/Captain Cook (but we simply didn't have the time for that). We felt lucky to have called this rental "home" in this magical place on earth, and felt sad to have to leave. We would certainly rent this unit again if/when we return to the Kohala coast of the Big Island."

  • Mostly good.

"The property was clean on the surface but under furniture there was a lot of dust and some miscellaneous items left under a bed. The third bedroom felt like "the kids' room to me. It was smaller, darker, and only had a shower. There was no tub off that bedroom. The other unit that we stayed at in Mauna Lani two years ago had a well-stocked kitchen as far as non-perishables went. There were only spices, a little vinegar, and a bit of oil in this unit. There was only one small sorter for silver wear...not enough places for soup spoons or salad forks. It doesn't seem complicated to find a better sorter for the drawer. Some of the big plates were too big for the two little stacked dishwashers so we had to do the big plates by hand. None of the cupboards were labeled so it was really a headache to try to put anything away in the right spot. We spent a lot of time looking through shelves and cupboards to find what we needed. I dried one load of towels for three hours and they were still wet. I called the maintenance and they came right over. There was a kink in the line, but it still took two hours to dry towels. The washer and dryer both seem dated and are also quite small. Improvement in this area would be good since there were seven of us going to the beach and using towels every day. There were some games in the cupboard, but when we got Scrabble out all of the tiles were missing. There was a nice assortment of paddle boards, snorkels and beach toys for the kids, located in the garage. The place looked nice enough but lacked warmth and personality. The wall "decor" was generic to the point of being very blah. I received a note about a week before our arrival that the barbecue didn't work. I called and asked to have it repaired or replaced. The woman I spoke to told me that I had to call maintenance and talk to them about it. I was astounded, telling them that I hadn't even arrived yet! I felt that it was their job to deal with this. The woman told me that she was too busy. After emailing, the manager called me back and took care of the problem. Mauna Lani itself is a nice place with a good pool, although there is NO map of how to get to the pool. When we called for help they couldn't find a map either and had to get back to us. We especially enjoyed the beach and restaurant nearby. I think we would stay at Mauna Lani again, but probably look for a more cheerful, functioning and convenient home next time."

  • Excellent stay: Like staying at a luxury resort, but more space and much quieter. Amazing Location!

"My wife and I rented this beautiful apartment for a week in early January. The location is superb, overlooking the fish ponds and out to the ocean. We also had full access to the Mauna Lani resort. At night, we opened the doors (screens closed) and heard only waves and palm leaves blowing in the wind. We never heard anyone else! We snorkeled at the beach, went scuba diving with the scuba center, and hiked up and down the coast without using the car. The supermarket near by (short drive) was very convenient with very reasonable prices. Michael and Mary-Ann were very helpful before our visit and called to make sure everything was going well. Cathy was local and provided us lots info and came in mid way to clean the entire apartment. We will be back - Thanks!"

  • So lovely, so relaxing

"We had such a great stay at Grant's Fairways condo! We were there a week, and I could happily have stayed a month. Our hosts thought of everything- coffee, beach toys, bikes, etc. The property was very clean, well maintained, and well equipped. Arrival and departure couldn't have been easier! Thanks so much, Grant and Andie- I hope to return soon!"
