"This was my first visit to the big island and it was significantly different than the more beach resort oriented trips I'd made to other locations like Waikiki and Maui. This property far exceeded our expectations and represented the best value for the money in terms of helping us have a wonderful trip. The home is VERY spacious, and well organized for a family of 5 to spread out in. It was really nice having a lot of basics on hand (spices, detergent, etc.) so that we weren't loading up at the grocery store for single uses, and it helped us take advantage of things like grilling fresh local tuna out on the lanai while watching the sunset take hold. The home is quiet and the entertainment more than adequate to keep our teenagers engaged at the end of long days of adventuring in the surrounding area. I didn't have much of a feel for where on the big island we should really be staying, but in hindsight I think we landed in just the right area. Plenty of great restaurants and beaches within a short drive, and the access was easy with things like the beach pass. If you stay here, take the bikes (or make a short drive) down to the Fairmont Orchid and enjoy a cocktail on their outdoor balcony bar as the sun sets - pretty awesome to have access to stuff like this so close, but being able to retreat after into something that felt much more like home. The property was very clean and cared for - quite a bit nicer than we were expecting actually. Our stay was "hands off" with only a modest number of simple requests made by the property owners. Their communication with us was MUCH better than we'd had with some other VRBO experiences and the entire process was smooth and unobtrusive. They even sent us an alert about some highway closures for a triathalon on our departure day that helped make sure we wouldn't miss our flight! Honestly, for a fairly expensive destination like Hawaii where everything costs more than you'd expect, this property was a lot more for our money than we were expecting and an exceptionally good value when compared to other alternatives in the area or something like a hotel which wouldn't have afforded the family intimacy/privacy combination that this home does. The gated community is very well maintained with very nice homes and it is a pleasant and short stroll to several great restaurants, shopping, groceries, etc. Just avoid the cranky coffee barista at the nearby coffee shop - she clearly hates tourists :-)"
