  • perfect for one couple

"This condo is a corner unit in the Fairways group of condominiums. It is in a quiet area with a view of the golf course and distant palm trees silhouetted against the sky; it is set back from this view, which is not as good as its neighbors enjoy in the same condo group, and I think the "Best Views" of the property title is a little overblown. The outdoor patio has a gas grill, like the other units, and a dining table and two lounge chairs, and we ate outside quite a bit. Because of the patio orientation, however, there is no place to sit in the shade in the late afternoons in February and March, a disadvantage, and the air conditioning compressors from this and the adjacent unit are very noisy when one is sitting outdoors. The master bedroom has thin, difficult to draw, curtains. There are large closets (containing plenty of hangars but only one, sashless bathrobe), There is a good kitchen with all the appliances and utensils one might need. the master bathroom is large, although one of the two sinks wasn't working when we were there; this will certainly be an easy to fix issue. In the garage were two portable beach chairs, but that was about all in terms of extras. Considering everything, we had a very good stay here. the unit is the right size for a single couple, although there is a second downstairs bedroom and small bath. We could sacrifice the view for this unit's lower rental fee compared with the larger condos in the area. The South Kohala realty who managed the property were responsive and friendly. We stayed last year in an adjacent unit, and liked the area and this unit enough that we have rented it again for next year, shortcomings and all! This is a beautiful area of the Big Island. the condo comes with free access to the Mauna Lani Beach club, a lovely area to sit, swim, snorkel, and whale-watch. There is a well-stocked grocery store and restaurants a half mile away, and wonderful beaches and restaurants within a half-hour drive. We especially liked Merriman's and the Red Water Cafe in Waimea, The Blue Dragon and the Plantation Grill in the Kawaihae Harbor area, and the local Monstera for sushi and noodles."

  • 5 STAR EXPERIENCE

"My husband and I just returned from a 2 week stay at Jan Gilman's fantastic condo! We knew the minute we opened the door that we had selected an amazing property. Beautifully furnished without being fussy. The kitchen was equipped with everything you could possibly need. I so appreciated the quality of everything from the knives to cookware to dinnerware. We could truly relax and gladly ate in whenever we felt like it. The grounds surrounding the condo are beautifully kept. We used the pool a few times- a great experience with only a few people there. The location of the condo was great for us as we explored the northern end of the island. It was hard to leave but we're hoping that we can return someday. Jan's condo has certainly spoiled us for any other rentals we do in the future."

  • Wonderful Mauna Lani Palm Villas rental -- steps to the pool

"Our family (including two parents, two young kids, and a grandparent) was wowed by this beautiful ground floor condo at Mauna Lani Palm Villas. We were so glad to have this place to call "home" when we arrived, driving here from Kona Airport, exhausted by our 14-hour journey from New England. It is very clean and comfortable, and has air-conditioning for those hot afternoons! The unit has 3 BR, 2 BA, very well laid out. It was so convenient to have a washer-dryer in unit, for use after trips to the beach and pool. The lanai/patio adjacent to the golf course, was a favourite place to gather in the early mornings to eat breakfast and watch the sunrise. The garden is beautiful and features lush green tropical foliage, coconut palm trees and flowering plants. We saw several geckos and one huge praying mantis when we were there! The kids enjoyed playing in the garden, and in the huge driveway in front of the house. The unit is steps to the pool and the kids really enjoyed walking over to play in the pool. We also drove to the Mauna Lani Beach Club, and enjoyed swimming in the protected cove. It's great to be able to park at the "owner's/renter's" lot, which is so close to the beach. It's only a 10-15 minute drive to Mauna Kea beach, arguably one of the most beautiful, and relatively secluded beaches in the world! The boogie boards, beach chairs and umbrella in the garage, so generously provided by the owners, were wonderful to use on our trips to the famous Kohala coast beaches. We drove to the Hilton Waikoloa, Kawaihae, Hawi, Keokea beach park, Pololu Valley lookout, Waipio valley, and we would have loved to have gone snorkeling at Kua Bay/Captain Cook (but we simply didn't have the time for that). We felt lucky to have called this rental "home" in this magical place on earth, and felt sad to have to leave. We would certainly rent this unit again if/when we return to the Kohala coast of the Big Island."

  • Great location, well equipped and comfortable.

"We had a great time at our annual family reunion. The condo met all our needs and the beach club pass and pool added to our fun! We enjoyed the bikes and it was nice to have additional snorkeling and beach gear. We love to cook and the kitchen was well equipped."
