  • Psst! Don't tell: Hidden gem of the Kohala coast!

"What a perfectly situated spot for quiet relaxation, the sound of the waves and some of the best quasi-private snorkeling you'll find on this white-sandy coast. The General Store is surprisingly well stocked and conveniently located down the private back stairs, but if you'll be cooking there are bigger markets within 15 minutes drive. Private, laid-back (unlike the ritzy, cookie-cutter inns up and down this stretch of coastline) and very affordable given you're just a hop across this sleepy neighborhood street to the beckoning ocean. Great sunset views from the deck. Abundant towels and bedding. Bonus beach gear and coolers. Super friendly staff that's there when you need them and appropriately out-of-sight and mind when you don't. My only hope is that it stays the perfect hidden gem and doesn't blow up (and booked up!) when people find out what an incredible spot this is. We will definitely be back!"

  • We will be back

"After traveling to Maui for many years we wanted to try a new island. We were a little worried the experience would not be as wonderful as we experienced on Maui. Our worries were needless as the island offers an amazing adventure and the Maile Cottage was the best place to stay. Accommodations were wonderful, the yard amazing, steps from an awesome beach, and a 5 min car ride to a bigger beach. We will be back!"

  • Perfect in every way

"The best beach in Puako and the home was beautiful with 180 degree views of the ocean, bay, sailboats and neighboring island."

  • Family stay

"We had a large group here: 7 adults and an infant. Plenty of room, gorgeous views, wonderful decorations. the house was very clean with all the equipment needed for making most of our own meals. The weather was hotter than normal so the evenings were a little on the hot side for sleeping but with plenty of fans and an ocean breeze, even that did not deter from the lovely time we had. I would return in a heart beat. Snorkeling is wonderful, although a bit tricky getting out. We all enjoyed the tide pools. There is a small protected pool right in front of the house, nice for my granddaughter."
