  • Great unit and location

"Couldn't be happier with our vacation. The unit was clean and well equipped with more beach toys, spare linen, cell chargers, and kitchen appliances than you can possibly use. Made cooking for a large family very easy. There were also board games, DVD's and satellite TV plus I believe an online TV subscription though we never turned the TV on; so busy with other activities. Baby gear was new and clean. Resort property was attractive and well maintained. Beach club's pools (1-2 minute walk from apartment) were well maintained and never too busy. Great view from pool looking over the ocean for sunset. Beach access is close (under 5 min walk from apartment) and convenient. We spent time visiting with friends/coworkers while on the island at several other hotels and resort properties and liked Kolea the best."

  • Great House, Great Location

"Age range, 60, 30s, 20s and young kids. The house was great for everyone. Location: About 25 minute drive from the airport, straight up the highway. Very easy to find. It's situated on the fishpond (look it up, very interesting history) which makes for a nice buffer between you and the beach-goers. The beach is a five minute walk, either through the beach club or marriott sidewalk - super easy to get to. The fishpond is also really neat because you can look in it and see all kinds of creatures from fish to eels and crab. It makes for a really pretty setting. Also, within a one minute drive is a nice grocery market and two nice upper-midscale outdoor shopping areas. Very nice to have so close by. The other houses in the area are all well kept and we never heard a peep from anyone on either side of us (did see cars in the driveway, so someone was there). Amenities: The beds where all comfortable. I have some back issues but slept great, which doesn't usually happen when I travel. The beds all have nice, big Hawaiian Quilts on them (as shown in the photos) - very nice touch. The two masters have big bathrooms with standup showers that lead to outdoor, private showers and each has a large, jetted tub as well has dual sinks. All other bedrooms have standard baths a shown in the photos. All very clean and well appointed. The dining room has a huge solid wood table (very cool) that can seat 10 or 12 without issue - probably more. The kitchen was my favorite part. Very nice Viking kitchen with everything you'll need to cook breakfast, lunch or dinner - something we did a lot. Family room was very large with plenty of seating. One of my favorite features is the opening walls to the back yard. We had some great nights where we could open up the whole house and let the fresh air in. What a treat. We spent a ton of time in the pool. It's lit at night and the jacuzzi is heated. What more do you need? The grill outside works great and we used that and ate outside a few times. The grounds are kept up really nicely. There are trees and flowers all round the front, back and side yards. The details were not overlooked here. And last but not least, Tjaden, the on-site property manger, was awesome. Ask him anything and he'll make it happen. Overall this house really made a great home for our family for the week. We'd all highly recommend it."

  • Fantastic condo in Kolea

"We were very happy with our stay in Hannah's home in Kolea. She thought of everything to make our stay fantastic... lots of little things, like having Saran Wrap and garbage bags available, so we didn't have to run out and buy them. It was the most comprehensively stocked condo that we have ever stayed in.... on Maui or the Big Island. It was also a pleasure to have lots of beach equipment to use! The layout was good for our family of 4. Hannah was a pleasure to work with! We would highly recommend this home in Kolea!"

  • Nice unit and good value but arguably best suited to older couples

"Overall this is a nice place provided you are looking for a quiet condo and have tempered expectations of the local beach and pool. Pros: - Overall quality of unit and complex (best in area?) - Well equipped with several kitchen basics and beach stuff - Spacious; great for sharing with another couple - Local paths / trails are cool - Quiet Cons: - Retirement community vibe - Beach within walking distance (A-bay) is a disappointment - Nice pool area but not heated (cold!) and lots of rules (no toys, etc) - Couch is in dire need of replacement - Management company is nice and polite but behind the times with online booking (fax/mail) - Local shopping areas areas (King/Queens shops) have buzz-kill elements like a Macy's and Macaroni Grill - Quiet We had a small maintenance issue that the manager attempted to remedy immediately. The floor is really dirty - probably from folks not taking off their shoes and tracking street grime on to the tile floor. We are strict shoes-off folks so after seeing black soles after 30 minutes I called to request a cleaning. They promptly came and re-washed but is didn't really help. I didn't push it. Overall the place is in nice condition but the floor needs some help. I suppose it is hard with a rental... The complex is really nice but it was hard with a 4 year old - A-bay is a drag, cold pool, no pool toys permitted. All in, it is probably about the best you'll do in the Kohala area but it isn't a great family set up if you are comparing vs a resort."
