  • Hawaiian Christmas and New Year Vacation

"We just got home from this wonderful property. We spent 11 nights at the unit over the Christmas and New Year holiday. The unit was perfect for our family- 3 great bedrooms with bathrooms for each, tons of snorkeling equipment and boogie boards for the ocean. The kitchen is great and outdoor grill and patio are a great amenity as well. The access to Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince made our vacation wonderful as well as those properties are included in your rental. I would highly recommend this property for anyone with a family looking to have an unforgettable vacation. Thank you also to the owners for their responsiveness and the on-site help from the Mauna Kea representative- she even stocked the fridge for us as we had a late arrival with children. We can't wait to come back!"

  • Fabulous house and location... our girls loved it!

"The location of this house - in laid back Puako - is perfect. Right next to a marine preserve, we spent many hours looking through the tide pools for turtles, fish, sea urchins, hermit crabs, and watching whales go by in the distance. And the feel of the house - an old style Hawaiian house - is a nice change from the typical island condo. The house had everything you could need, including beach towels, chairs, sand toys, masks, snorkels, etc. It is also conveniently close to lots of places to eat if you don't feel like cooking in the well stocked kitchen. The staff at 2Papayas were wonderful and left lots of information on the local area - the farmer's market in Waimea was one of our favorites. And if you couldn't find something in the general store down the road, you probably don't need it. We would love to come back!"

  • Best Hawaii Rental Ever!

"We have been coming to the Big Island for 20 years, and this rental is by far our favorite. We rented this villa (for five weeks) and one other (for two weeks) at Wai'Ula'Ula for a family reunion. This home - from what we could tell driving around - has the best sunset view of all the villas in the development. We had cocktails and our evening meals here nearly every night, and every one of our guests raved about what a lovely place it is. The home is perfect for entertaining a larger group, with lots of outdoor seating, a plunge pool and a spa. The kitchen is very well-stocked with dishes, stemware, flatware, cooking utensils, and pots and pans, as well as a rice cooker, coffee maker and grinder, toaster oven, toaster and professional quality appliances. The rooms are spacious and very tastefully furnished and decorated. The beds and pillows are comfortable and the linens are good quality and plentiful. The owner, Janet, and her daughter, Allyson, were delightful to work with; both were responsive and friendly in all our communications. The Wai'Ula'Ula development itself is a gem, with a well-equipped fitness area and a gorgeous infinity pool which is heated to a perfect temperature. We happily took advantage of the resort membership (for an additional and reasonable fee) and were so glad we did. Easy access to the Mauna Kea and Hapuna beaches made the fee worthwhile all on its own, but the privileges also include use of the pools, gyms, umbrellas, chairs and towels at both resorts, as well as the ability to sign at all the restaurants and bars. We would return to this property in a heartbeat and are confident if you rent it, you will be absolutely delighted."

  • Location, location, location

"The Puako Beachfront House has a stunning location, right above the Puako tide pools. We have rented in Puako before and really appreciate its quiet and comfortable vibe. This is the first time we've rented on the ocean and now we are spoiled. Although the interior really needs renovation and up-dating, we were comfortable and happy there. The photos pretty much show you what you'll get and the property description is accurate, but does not reveal the broken patio furniture, cracked tiles, peeling paint, etc. If you're a stickler about such things, this is not the place for you. We took advantage of the proximity of the property to the Fairmount Orchid Resort, walking along the beach path. A drink and dinner was a nice respite from cooking in, although we were unimpressed with the food at the resort's Brown's Beach House. (Much, much better, although not accessible with a stroll down the beach, was dinner at the Four Season's 'Ulu Ocean Grill.) When we cooked in, we enjoyed the fresh fish from the Da Fish House in Kawaihae. The fresh Kauai shrimp is outstanding! We enjoyed walking the portion of the Ala Khaki Trail near Puako and recommend it for its panoramic ocean views and occasional ancient Hawaiian settlement sites. For swimming, we liked the beach at Mauna Kea, approached from Hapuna Beach Park along this same trail."
