  • The Perfect Hawaiian Cottage

"This was our second holiday stay in this charming little cottage in restful Puako. Two Papayas Rentals had our pre-ordered groceries all loaded into the refrigerator and we were set for the Christmas holidays. This is the perfect, quiet, little Hawaiian hideaway. The decor is so tasteful and I love all the extras that come with a home rental, such as the washer, dryer and a kitchen loaded with all the basics for cooking."

  • Nice unit and good value but arguably best suited to older couples

"Overall this is a nice place provided you are looking for a quiet condo and have tempered expectations of the local beach and pool. Pros: - Overall quality of unit and complex (best in area?) - Well equipped with several kitchen basics and beach stuff - Spacious; great for sharing with another couple - Local paths / trails are cool - Quiet Cons: - Retirement community vibe - Beach within walking distance (A-bay) is a disappointment - Nice pool area but not heated (cold!) and lots of rules (no toys, etc) - Couch is in dire need of replacement - Management company is nice and polite but behind the times with online booking (fax/mail) - Local shopping areas areas (King/Queens shops) have buzz-kill elements like a Macy's and Macaroni Grill - Quiet We had a small maintenance issue that the manager attempted to remedy immediately. The floor is really dirty - probably from folks not taking off their shoes and tracking street grime on to the tile floor. We are strict shoes-off folks so after seeing black soles after 30 minutes I called to request a cleaning. They promptly came and re-washed but is didn't really help. I didn't push it. Overall the place is in nice condition but the floor needs some help. I suppose it is hard with a rental... The complex is really nice but it was hard with a 4 year old - A-bay is a drag, cold pool, no pool toys permitted. All in, it is probably about the best you'll do in the Kohala area but it isn't a great family set up if you are comparing vs a resort."

  • A beautiful retreat

"Richard and Natalie made us feel warmly welcomed in their lovely, spacious and peaceful retreat. Magnificent views of the ocean, rainbows and Maui, a luxurious outdoor shower, flowers and produce from their working organic farm -- it was all wonderful!"

  • Fabulous Stay!

"We loved the place: Spacious, with lots of sunlight and a view of the golf course and the ocean. We enjoyed the BBQ on the lanai, the well-equipped kitchen, and the beach chairs. With its two well isolated suites, the condo is perfect for 2 couples or 1 couple with 2 kids. On site, we had a blast at Dolphin Quest and playing the 18-hole Beach Course. Visiting the Hilton is worth it, with its trains, boats, and restaurants. The only downside is that there is no beach within walking distance. We drove to Hapuna Beach Park and to Mona Kea Beach, which are two spectacular beaches within a 10-minute drive."
