"We were a “3 generations family” looking for a quiet, local Hawaiian experience and this is it. Except for the bugs, I thought there would be bugs but the house must be really tight! I saw one dead one in two weeks. All the other reviews are bang on and give great advice. It’s more a home than a “vacation rental”. You will find things in the kitchen like poultry scissors, decent knives, all kinds of baking pans, containers for leftovers, measuring cups and chopping boards. Also tons of picnic gear, coolers, a really good coffee maker (and a grinder for beans), juice jugs, salad bowls… If we wanted it, it was there. We cooked a full Christmas dinner and baked a birthday cake no problem. Comfortable beds thank goodness, soft sheets and plenty of pillows. Excellent water pressure – lovely showers! Great Wifi and lots of games including water toys. The wee life jacket fit out little one perfectly and he used it every day! For the old lady (that’d be me) the folding chairs were fantastic too! And bird seed for the birds – a morning ritual. Here’s what we did – unless we went on a day trip to the volcanoes or something, we would get up early and go down to Manini beach (or maybe down to Two Step) before most folk were up and out. When the sun got up around 10 or so and people started coming, we’d retreat back to the house for lunch and a siesta or go shopping and eat out or go touring in the air conditioned car. Then we went to the beach at around 3 when lots of folk were leaving and had it quiet again until sunset. Not one of us got too much sun and we could pretend we were the only tourists! Mel is a darling and called to make sure we were OK. Karen (downstairs) is just great and very happy to help with any questions. The chickens for some reason DO NOT CROW and are delightful. Fresh grapefruit and limes were awesome."

  • Had a Great Stay!

"We stayed at this nicely updated newer home, the place is even nicer than the pictures. My wife and I love the Big Island, this is our sixth stay. We plan to return here because we like it the best. Perfect views, privacy and phenomenal king bed. Extra bonus: we saw no bugs in the house and the A/C was wonderful when needed."

  • Great location - Awesome view!

"Kona Palace fit our needs perfectly. The view was excellent, and was equipped with everything we needed. We saw whales and dolphins cavorting in the bay below, and heard the birds in the trees in the morning - it's definitely located in paradise! The home itself was cute and homey, with easy parking. Rebecca came by to check with us when we first arrived, and Keith came by later for a small repair (it's good to have the owners close by!) and brought bananas from their tree. Delicious! We used two bedrooms with queen beds (The policy on rooms is clearly stated in the property description - don't assume you have the whole house, its a small additional fee for more than one bedroom). One bedroom had a great ocean view. The bedrooms are smallish, but not tiny. There's both a living room, and a screen porch, as well as a deck with views, so ocean views are plentiful. The kitchen has a full-size fridge and stove, and all the basic appliances you might need. There were fans in every room in case it got too warm (which was not needed). It's pretty quiet, with only the occasional car driving down the road nearby. There's a washer, but no dryer, so you need to hang any laundry you need to do. Not a real problem for us. The house isn't perfect, but it's perfectly livable and inviting. (There is another house on the property that is very beautiful - if you want luxury, you can book that one too) We were only 10 minutes from Keauhou bay, and 15 minutes from shopping. I would recommend highly if you are looking for peace & quiet, and don't need to be right in town. It's not luxurious, but perfect for a couple or small family as a home base for your big island adventures!"

  • Retreat group from Europe had a wonderful time and loved the house.

"We were a group of 11 adults who all fell in love with the house and the area. The house has great energy, is very open and light. The garden is beautiful as well with tropical fruit trees and the ocean just a two min walk. The caretaker of the house was also very accommodating. The house is well equipped and had everything we needed. The only downfall was the upper section floor being a bit dusty and not clean when we arrived. Also good to know that it is a quiet neighborhood after 10pm. The tap water is drinkable which is a big plus. We are very thankful for a wonderful stay and looking forward to be back. In the meantime we can highly recommend you to rent this house. Aloha"
