  • Very clean, very accommodating with a magnificent.view.

"We absolutely loved the cottage and will be returning very soon. We have rented several houses in the area and this is the best of all."

  • Simply put....paradise!

"This was our first trip to Hawaii and we selected this island and this home based on what it had to offer, as well as recommendations from good friends. Not only were the recommendations accurate, but this home exceeded our expectations. One has to 'experience' this beautiful home and surrounding area to fully understand the reviews. Everything about the home is high end, and the owners have provided so much for the renter's benefit....beach towels and chairs, boogie boards, snorkel masks and gear. The laundry area is fully equipped and works like a charm. We cannot say enough about the lanai, where we sat listening to the birds during our coffee, and gazing at the gorgeous sky and sunset each evening. We used the BBQ often and it worked like a charm. Showers were great and all the towels one needs. Beds can be a deal breaker and these beds were exceptional. We enjoyed walking about the grounds and one of the owners gave us a tour and explanation of all that was there. Pebble Beach, just s short 5 minute drive, was a enchanting spot to check for whales, spinner dolphins, great views of the surf, or the sunset. Finally, the location was perfect for heading to Kailua Kona or farther north to Hawi, or south to Volcano National Park. We will definitely return someday. It is all we hoped for and much more."

  • Can't be beat!

"This beautiful home is spacious, well-appointed and carefully maintained. The location is amazing, right on the water with gorgeous sunset views! The property is large and very peaceful with beautiful foliage. The jacuzzi and outdoor lava rock shower make it a true paradise. I loved drifting to sleep each night to the sound of the waves. Included in the rental was access to kayaks and the boat launch located just two houses away. We had such an amazing time kayaking out to the spinner dolphins each morning and hopping in for the most exceptional experience! The snorkeling at the monument is world class. Also just 4 miles down the road is The City of Refuge "two step" which had great snorkeling as well. Our family ranged from our little kids (age 3 & 5), to our teenagers (15 & 18) and my in-laws in their 70's. Everyone had a great time. There is truly something for everyone here. We will definitely be visiting the Dolphin Retreat again as soon as we can. There is something magical about this place!"

  • A tropical dream come true! 5 Stars+

"This Big Island home was absolutely delightful, truly perfect for our island getaway. The cabin is romantic and secluded, a home-away-from-home in the hills above Captain Cook, and has a truly beautiful aesthetic, with lots of thoughtful details. The kitchen is well stocked for making meals. We prepared our breakfast everyday on the gas stove, and there’s no lack of ways to make coffee--there’s an automatic coffee maker, French press, pour-over Melita, and an electric kettle, along with a generous starter supply of Kona coffee. Each morning we took our breakfast out to the gazebo in the yard, and had fun picking macadamia nuts to add to our oatmeal. There’s even a fancy macadamia nutcracker in the kitchen that my husband delighted in using. The hum of the tree frogs at night is magical, and adds to the tropical feel of the place, and the elevation of the home means that nights are pleasantly cool. We slept well in the comfy bed with the sleeping loft’s windows open to the soft breezes. Heide and Jeffrey were such gracious hosts, welcoming and available but never intrusive. The fresh selection of tropical fruit, homemade bread, butter and jam were a lovely welcome, and the information about the house and the island that were in the house were helpful, too. We made use of the washer and dryer, and appreciated the house being stocked with beach towels, beach chairs, and even a umbrella for use on picnics by the sea. It’s a tropical paradise, one I’m SO glad we found. Thank you very much, Jeffrey and Heide. We can’t wait to return!"
