  • I didn't want to leave!

"The photos are an exact depiction of the house and property - and yet the reality is SO much better! This is a perfect house in a perfect location! We loved the Geckos - indoors and out (not so much the other critters - but, hey, it's Hawaii!) We fed the birds, watched the mongoose and heard the goats (we especially loved the baby goat). After an early morning snorkel at Two-Step, we would have breakfast and coffee on the lanai and watch the boats and kayaks over at the Captain Cook monument in the bay. The house description is clear that there is no air-conditioning. It's been our experience that most vacation rentals where we have stayed in Hawaii do not. However, Mary and Bob have provided fans for those nights when the breeze is not sufficient to cool the house. We left the windows open and woke up to the birds and ocean sounds in the morning (having turned off the fans in the night). This rental also includes everything you could ever need in the kitchen and plenty of items that are handy for snorkeling or laying on the beach. We rented snorkel gear from Snorkel Bob's, but used the water shoes and beach towels from the house. The location is rural and yet reasonably close to Kailua-Kona. We've rented a house or condo in Hawaii 6 or 7 times in the last 10 years and this has been our best VRBO experience! I highly recommend this rental!!"

  • Peaceful Indeed

"3 very relaxing days. This place was perfect for us. Everything we needed without the distractions of a resort. A cold front moved in and we had to find some extra blankets. Nothing like being wrapped in a couple of comforters on the couch with a good book and a good cup of coffee. Tiffany is a kind and beautiful soul. You can tell a lot about someone by exploring their library. The avocados were simply amazing."

  • Our week in paradise

"We just arrived home from a seven night stay at this peaceful, secluded home. The view from the lanai is amazing and the sunsets are glorious. The home is as described and was clean and ready for us when we arrived. Because we did not reach the area until after dark, we had a little trouble locating the driveway....the lady who lives next to the entrance came out and directed us....after that, smooth sailing. We used this location as a base camp as we explores Volcano National Park, Akaka Falls, Hilo, Puako, Kona Coast and Pu'uhonua o Honaunau - City of Refuge. We especially enjoyed the serenity each morning and evening as we sat on the lanai. Would definietly rent this again. Thank you, Diane!"

  • Can't be beat!

"This beautiful home is spacious, well-appointed and carefully maintained. The location is amazing, right on the water with gorgeous sunset views! The property is large and very peaceful with beautiful foliage. The jacuzzi and outdoor lava rock shower make it a true paradise. I loved drifting to sleep each night to the sound of the waves. Included in the rental was access to kayaks and the boat launch located just two houses away. We had such an amazing time kayaking out to the spinner dolphins each morning and hopping in for the most exceptional experience! The snorkeling at the monument is world class. Also just 4 miles down the road is The City of Refuge "two step" which had great snorkeling as well. Our family ranged from our little kids (age 3 & 5), to our teenagers (15 & 18) and my in-laws in their 70's. Everyone had a great time. There is truly something for everyone here. We will definitely be visiting the Dolphin Retreat again as soon as we can. There is something magical about this place!"
