  • Fabulous!

"This home felt so comfortable and so spacious. There were six of us with plenty of room to spread out and have our own space. The house was spotless, even the lanai and the cabana, which are open to the air! The kitchen was well-equipped and had the little things that you don't like to have to buy, like spices and condiments. It was great having all the bathrooms so everyone had a place to shower without having to wait. We also really liked the grounds. They were beautifully maintained and we enjoyed seeing mongooses (I think that is what they were) and the geckos and hearing the birds, roosters and coqui frogs. The frogs put us right to sleep! We tried some of what the island had to offer, like the volcano, a kayaking and snorkeling tour, and a surfing lesson. I highly recommend the Kona Boys for your water sport needs. We tried some of the local cuisine like laulau from Super J's and poke from Da Poke Shack. I also highly recommend breakfast at Big Rob's Bakery. It is where the locals go to eat breakfast, isn't nearly as crowded as the Coffee Shack, and has wonderful food and luscious pastries. In the evenings we broke out the poker cards and chips on their awesome poker table. My goal for our vacation was to relax and we were well able to do that in this house. We would definitely come here again."

  • Screened lanai a real plus!

"We thoroughly enjoyed the Captain's Suite. What a treat to enjoy my morning coffee overlooking the Pacific. Bed was very comfortable and plenty of room in the apartment for two. We especially enjoyed the large bathroom. If you want to get away from the bustle of the beaches and sample the flavor of old Hawaii, this is the place for you. We loved touring the nearby coffee plantations, exploring the site of old Hawaiian royalty, and snorkeling/kayaking in the nearby bay. A memorable visit!"

  • A beautiful, clean and well-appointed home south of Kailua-Kona

"When we searched the VRBO site for a vacation home on the Big Island, we came across Deb and Terry’s listing. Upon arrival, we found the home to be much more than we expected. It is a beautiful, well-kept home with a tremendous view. The place is clean bright and airy and looks like it was recently redone. We were tickled with our choice and pleased that this couple took such pride in their vacation home. It is well stocked with all the conveniences including GE appliances, dishwasher, toaster oven, toaster, coffeemaker and even a gas BBQ grill. For longer stays, there is a washer and dryer in a utility room off the garage and they have beach and water gear available for use. The beds are very comfortable and there are windows and French doors to allow plenty of sunlight and air circulation. The wrap around deck is wonderful and we practically lived in the comfortable deck chairs (and table) on the lanai in the mornings and evenings. The lanai is well protected from the sun and a cool breeze flows around the corners of the house. All the fixtures in the home are near new along with all the ceiling fans. There is a new Smart Vizio television and a WiFi router in the living room area which allowed us to keep in touch with our friends and family. We also chose this home for its location but you will need a rental car. While it seems a little remote and one has to drive to the nearest grocery store or restaurant, it is centrally located about half way down the Big Island. Travel time back to Kona is about one and a half hours and travel time to Kiluaea Volcano and Hilo is about the same. One can get a good feel of Island Hawaii by staying here. It is a rare treat for those who wish to avoid crowds, and experience the peace of old Hawaii. Deb and her sister were always in touch with us whenever we had a question about the house or about the area. Both were more than helpful in suggesting things we should do to make our stay more enjoyable. Deb suggested stopping at Costco to buy provisions since they are cheaper there. Her sister suggested several eating establishments that turned out to be the best. We ate at Mi’s, Kona Brewing, and Quinn’s in Kailua; and the Volcano Winery, O’helo, and Volcano House in the Kilaua area. Mehe’s was about 11 miles down the road and we ate there several times. Thank you Deb, Terry, and Bert for allowing us to enjoy your beautiful home for the almost 2 weeks we were in Hawaii."

  • Secret paradise

"We stayed with our 3 children for 1 week in Michelle and Matt's wonderful beach house. They greeted us warmly and provided us with everything we needed to feel at home and comfortable. The beach is literally steps away from the front door and is a wonderful snorkeling spot where you can see a variety of marine species. The neighborhood is quiet and relaxed. We left feeling rejuvenated and grateful for the hospitality."
