  • Great location, great property

"This property is close to all of the important locations on the leeward side of the Big Island, but away from the crowds. It's only a few minutes' walk to Manini Beach, one of the best entry points on the island for beginning and intermediate snorkelers, in a bay frequented by a large pod of spinner dolphins. The house has many amenities for visitors and is well maintained, with creatively themed bedrooms. You will love the place! We ate at many nearby restaurants, including Annie's (burgers) and Gypsea Gelato (made in-house, and some of the best you'll taste anywhere). A mere 4 miles from the City of Refuge and the neighboring Two Step Beach, with a wonderful variety of sea life. Bring your friends; bring your family. The housing will be one of the smallest expenses of your entire trip."

  • Amazing place on the big island

"When we first arrived at south kona coffee we immediately fell in love with the place. There is a welcome sign that had our names on it. It's very touching and make us feel so special. and then Brad showed up and led us to the cottage. There are two cottages with it own private bathroom and shared out door kitchen. We stayed at the Dolphin cottage,it was very clean, very comfortable bed and screened windows allowed us to have plenty of air. There is a large refrigerator, flat screen TV,toaster, microwave, coffee maker and French press. The Fruit plate, kona coffee, macadamia nuts were so delicious and much appreciated. Especially, their kona coffee was the best I've ever had!!! We loved all the nature sound, view of the sunset, friendly green geckos, fruit trees surround us and we also enjoyed hiking on the lava flow near by the property. Brad was a great host full of information on the island. This place is about 45 minutes to an hour drive from Kona airport. It's far enough from a tourists crowded and yet close enough to the most beautiful beaches and about halfway to volcano national park. Thank you so much Brad for your hospitality and all of your tips on places to explore were great. We couldn't asked for a better host on our one week vacation. You have made our 10 years Anniversary very special and unforgettable. We will be back and stay here again."

  • WOW!!!

"Over the years, we’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to stay in some lovely villas during our travels, but I must say that the sight that met us when we first opened the stained-glass front door of Maka Nui nearly took our breath away. It is an exceptionally lovely home – with ornate furnishings and exquisite artwork, a fabulous Jacuzzi tub, a huge double shower, a well-appointed kitchen, and a wonderfully comfy king-size bed. The beautiful, rambling interior is surrounded by a screened-in lanai that looks out across the green hillside down onto Kealakekua Bay. We so enjoyed our evenings on the lanai reading – a delightful cool breeze blowing up from the sea, the faint song of the coqui competing with the Hawaiian music we had softly playing in the background. The grounds are gorgeous: acres of coffee trees, fruit trees, and fragrant flowers, with a much-appreciated impeccably-maintained swimming pool next to the house. Candi was such a gracious, considerate host, and welcomed us with a lovely basket of fruit, coffee, and chocolate macadamias. She is such a delightful, friendly soul – immediately there if we needed something or had a question, but otherwise completely respected our privacy. We loved this part of the island – so very lush and tropical. Maka Nui is very private, very quiet, and very safe. Located down from the Captain Cook area, on Napo’opo’o road, it is off the beaten path, yet not very far from good beaches, good snorkeling, shopping, sightseeing, etc. We SO enjoyed our stay there!"

  • Excellent

"I would recommend this place and we hope to come back. Everything was thought of, the cabin is beautiful and quiet ( the frogs at night did not disturb us at all) Heides bread and jam and fruits and egg's tasted so good and warmed my heart. We made wonderful daytrips from there and the owners gave us great tips . The surrounding garden is beautiful , the cabin is big and comfortable with lots of Hawaii books - so no need to bring one. Our stay was magical and we hope to come back , the owners are the nicest people and very kind and thought of everything. Would love to come back - we stayed 8 days in the cabin. Marianna"
