  • Private tropical beauty and comfort

"I adored this upstairs studio. As designed, the gorgeous wood beam high ceiling does remind me of sleeping in a wooden ship. Covered carport parking was definitely a plus. The stainless steel and granite countertop kitchen had everything I needed: coffee grinder, coffee maker, toaster, blender, microwave. Even without AC the three large ceiling fans and six sliding glass doors cooled it down at night. VERY PRIVATE yard with full-size clothesline and fabulous outside enclosed H/C shower. Only thing to keep in mind: Rental location is a good 15-minute drive down or up a winding, paved, steepish road to get to main road where food, gas, shopping are. Walk to Manini Beach. Narrow rocky entrance to snorkeling on Kealakekua Bay--THE BEST."

  • Far from the Madding Crowd

"Banana Bungalow provided just the secluded escape we were looking for, away from the bustle of the city but close enough to everything we wanted to experience - ten minutes from Pu'uhonua o Honaunau (the most extensive historical site), ten minutes from beautiful beaches for fantastic snorkeling, two hours from Volcano National Park, and twenty minutes from good dining. The ocean south of Kona is less turbulent than in the north, where winds whip up the waters, important for less experienced snorkelers. And the bungalow was delightful, offering all of the creature comforts in a lush, jungly setting. There is no need to rent beach gear, as masks, fins, boogie boards, and beach umbrellas are provided. And not to be missed - Bwana Bob's very funky coffee roasting workshop! Thanks, Susan and Steve, for welcoming us so warmly!"

  • The best VRBO!

"My husband and I spent 8 nights at Koa Cabin. We had stayed there several years earlier, and our wonderful memories influenced our choosing West Hawaii for this vacation as well. The location of Koa Cabin is stunning -- a huge expanse of land rich in foliage (macademia nut and avocado trees, beautiful flowering plants) that is extremely private. On the grounds, it is possible to sit at a picnic table outside the cabin, or have breakfast or dinner in the beautiful bamboo gazebo (at night, plug in the light string - magical.) My husband loved reading and dozing in the hammock! We picked up macademia nuts and used the special nut cracker to crack them, eating them with Heide's freshly baked bread and with the papaya, avocado, bananas, dragon fruit, guava and other fruits, piled high in a welcoming basket! The kitchen is marvelous, and it was a joy to create a dinner from fresh Hawaiian ingredients! I loved the sounds of the forest, including the tree frogs! Heidi and Jeffrey are the most hospitable, wonderful , caring hosts I have experienced in years of renting VRBO's. I could go on and on -- and have, actually, to my friends here who certainly wish they could fly to Hawaii and stay a week in Koa Cabin!"

  • A Graeat Sample of Paradise

"Very nice and clean, comfortable and quiet with a splendid ocean view. Neighbor provided local places to see. Went to Captain Hook's monument as the sun was coming up. Owner provided perfect instructions to access the house, [if I followed them] and the house has 2 separate signs with the street address. ! Will stay again. And will refer friends who may travel to the area."
