  • Far from the Madding Crowd

"Banana Bungalow provided just the secluded escape we were looking for, away from the bustle of the city but close enough to everything we wanted to experience - ten minutes from Pu'uhonua o Honaunau (the most extensive historical site), ten minutes from beautiful beaches for fantastic snorkeling, two hours from Volcano National Park, and twenty minutes from good dining. The ocean south of Kona is less turbulent than in the north, where winds whip up the waters, important for less experienced snorkelers. And the bungalow was delightful, offering all of the creature comforts in a lush, jungly setting. There is no need to rent beach gear, as masks, fins, boogie boards, and beach umbrellas are provided. And not to be missed - Bwana Bob's very funky coffee roasting workshop! Thanks, Susan and Steve, for welcoming us so warmly!"

  • Kay, So nice to meet you, and thanks for everything!

"First of all, the property is less than 500 feet from the ocean, the map is a little off. People actually parks in front of the house(on the other side of the street) to go to the beach! The place is pretty easy to find, and the flat on top floor is very spacious. Lots of fruit trees around the house. Wish we did buy any star fruits at the farmer's market after we landed, turn out Kay's star fruits are bigger and sweeter! Thanks again for the home made spaghetti diner and fresh Mango! And thanks for the bread, milk and eggs. The location of this place is great - walk down the street to ocean, and you can rent a kayak from Bay Side Adventure to visit Captain Cook's Monument. If you are lucky, you will see spinner dolphin on the way. If not, you are still guaranteed to the best snorkeling spot of the whole Hawaii! Four miles down the road further south, it's the famous City of Refuge(a National park), and two steps. The area can get pretty hot during the day. There is an air conditioning unit in one bed room. But we didn't use it with all the windows open. Oh, thanks for the cookies, they are incredible."

  • Pleasant house near Hookena beach

"The house is at about 1200 feet elevation, so even when it's hot at the beach, there is a pleasant breeze at the house. Large, shaded lanai, 3 bedrooms and plenty of space for 6 people. The house was very clean. The beach is about 10 minutes away by car, a mix of rocks and sand. There is a great poke place within walking distance from the house. The owners are very nice and helpful, answer emails within hours."
