  • Our favorite place in Hawaii!

"This was our 3rd time we have had the pleasure of staying at the Beautiful Makalani Oceanview Cottage. It is the perfect cottage for the couple that wants to get away from the busy beach condos in Kona. Harry has tastfully decorated the cottage in beautiful Bali style wood, beautiful vased flowers, wood roses and the mosquito net surrounding the bed( very confortable) has a feel of old time Hawaii. The cottage is completly furnished, the view is incredible and totally private. The cottage is also surrounded by every Hawaiian flower you have ever heard of and Harry planted all of them. The "Mango Hut", which is separate from the main cottage is surrounded by Hindu statues and over looks the bay. I spent every night with a glass a wine meditating in the silence there. It feels very spiritual and I need that when I'm on vacation. Harry has every type of equipment you need for playing in the waves and snorkling. He is also very genereous about telling you of incredible beaches that you can hike into. A wonderful man indeed! We would not think of staying anywhere else on the Big Island. Enjoy!!"

  • Fantastic property, great location

"We have stayed at Tara many times over the past six years and it never disappoints. The cottage is furnished to Michael's high standards and is located on a large and beautifully landscaped lot overlooking Kealakekua Bay. Sunsets from the lanai are always spectacular, and mornings are peaceful. World class snorkeling is a short drive away at Two Step and at the Captain Cook Monument (the Monument is accessible by boat tour, kayak, or for the adventurous, on foot from a nearby trailhead - we always take the trail, but pack plenty of water). Captain Cook and Kealakekua offer many great restaurant options and a good supermarket. Michael is a wonderful host, never intrusive but always available and friendly. We would not stay anywhere else on the Big Island and are already trying to figure out when we can get back."

  • Perfect spot for a family getaway

"This house was perfect in every way, making our family holiday a great success. We enjoyed all our meals on the spacious lanai, slept well in the comfortable beds with tropical breezes blowing through the windows (no need for air conditioning), and fully enjoyed all the nearby spots for snorkelling and wandering. The location is great - accessible from the airport and also easy driving distances to other attractions like Volcanoes National Park, the green sand beach, Keauhou (for Manta Ray night snorkel) and downtown Kona-Kailua. We would highly recommend this rental house, especially for family groups (lots of room, well set-up both inside and out) ... thanks for a lovely holiday!"

  • Fantastic stay at Makai Hideaway

"View was priceless and breath-taking, certainly a once-in-a-lifetime sight to see. The 3 bedrooms and the gameroom exceed my expectations. My kids and I had a lot of fun with the ping pong table and the miniature pool table. I was able to relax inside and outside the house while watching the ocean and the incredible view of the volcano. The swimming hole was great on sunny days, probably the best snorkeling on the island by the way. The manager was funny and was really nice, while being helpful at the same time. There was even four kayaks, but we didn't have time to use them. It is very well kept and even has papayas growing, as well as pineapples. The art on the wall was impressive too, the manager told me that one of these boards were made by Eddie Aikau! Overall the stay was fantastic and we will definitely return in the nearby future."
