  • Warm Hostess + Authentically curated house + Tropical fruit garden = Wonderful Stay

"We just got back from a vacation at Hale Meow Meow. This is the just the experience you want if you're looking to for a truly unique experience and resortlandia is not for you. Linda has created a tropical paradise on her property with all sorts of fruit trees, flowers and outdoor decoration. The house is replete with unique touches and treasures from all over the world. I loved the design of the house as well. It has open indoor-outdoor feel to it that goes well with the location. Its like one of those houses you see in Sunset Magazine. We loved the outdoor bathtub and the bohemian shower. Yet the whole place felt very private and away from it all. The place well situated close to Captain Cook and Kealakedua Bay which has the best snorkelling on the island. The white sand beaches like Manini o'wali and Hapuna are about 45 minutes to an hours drive north. Its a closer drive if you plan drive south to South Point or further on to Volcanoes National park (we visited all above places during our time here) The drive on highway 11 around Captain Cook give you a sense of Old Hawaii with antique shops, and local dives for getting great food. Its also close to Greenwell CoffeeFarms which as fun visit. We realized how much we liked the neighborhood around Captain cook, after you drive to to Kona which is like every other tourist trap beach town with its jewelry stores, outdoor malls and overpriced food. The house is also stocked with everything you need for the beach - umbrella's snorkels, coolers, boogie boards, beach chairs etc. Location wise - the slight elevation made the nights nice and cool at night the sounds of the frogs, crickets and other creatures truly gave you the sense of being on a tropical island. Having Pueo come around to greet us every morning or when we got back from adventuring made us feel completely at home. The kids enjoyed wandering about the place every morning discovering trees and fruits they've never seen before. We enjoyed the tropical fruit Linda had for us and the beds were super comfortable. All in all we had a wonderful holiday and a memorable stay. Thank you Linda for the space you've created and sharing it with us all!"

  • Stunning Captain Cook Beach House

"We've just wrapped up a 9-night stay at this property and it was heart-wrenching to leave. Seriously. Simply put it is stunning in terms of location of the property and the beach house itself. We loved it. The house itself is very-well equipped and the owners/mananger have kindly stocked it with a variety of household goods and items such as snorkelling equipment, kayaks, a BBQ, beach chairs and other items. The only comment we can make....it needs more and better pillows in the bedrooms...and that's it. Our family prefers experiences like this to resorts as it allows us to feel more settled and relaxed. This place allowed us to experience a more authentic Hawaiian experience with neighbouring locals and the Captain Cook area which sees a little less of high volume tourist traffic that you would see in Kona or Kohala. The location is still only a short drive away from Kona and other nearby amenities and sightseeing opportunities. We loved it there so much we made a point of not going anywhere for a few days as the house and location were ideal. The beach is perfect for snorkelling, surfing, boogie-boarding or paddling with the kayaks or just having uncrowded and seemingly private beach time anytime. The only caveat is to have a vehicle with higher ground clearance as a short section of the driveway requires some manouevering over rocky terrain. We had a rented 2WD Dodge Journey (not what we had booked actually, that's another less than glowing review on a car rental company that rhymes with Shifty that I would exercise caution with) but we made out okay although I would still recommend something perhaps a bit higher. AWD or 4WD not important, just ground clearance. Truly an amazing place...and I would highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys alternatives to resorts and wishes for a modicum of solitude in an incredible place in an amazing location. The property is well managed by the local property manager (Colette) who does an exceptional job in keeping the property up. We fully intend to return at some point. We can't wait."

  • Paradise, the real one. Enjoyed every day there.

"Every word from all those five stars reviews below is true. This place is wonderful, the view is breathtaking (as promised :-)), the location is prime and secluded, exactly as I dreamed of. Mike and Lisa's house is beautiful, clean, well maintained, and has everything you need for a great relaxing vacation. Do not be intimidated by the downhill road to the house, it's not that steep. We drove it on a showery night and had no problems (rented 4 wv). The ocean view from the living room and lanai is awesome. I practically lived on the lanai, day-dreaming and reading there when we were not traveling around the island. Having electrical grill helped with cooking. We mostly ate at home (bought groceries on our way from Kona airport). We loved Pebble Beach down the road. It's not your regular quiet sandy lagoon, but more wild, genuine and secluded. We hardly saw other people there, and mostly had it all for ourselves and enjoyed snorkeling. There is also King'sTrail on both sides of the beach for those who loves hiking. Advice: if you love to be in the middle of civilization, would like to have restaurants and shopping right next to your porch, prefer to have people around, then Simple Pleasure is NOT your place. Book a condo in Kailua-Kona , you will be happy there. If you need to get away from it all, relax, and have the whole ocean for yourself, Simple Pleasure is your best choice ever. And it's very close to the greatest adventures on the island, like Volcano National Park, kayaking to Captain Cook or snorkeling on the best beaches. We had it all :-) Mike and Lisa, thank you so much for sharing your wonderful place with us. We came back just yesterday but it was such a great trip that I'm already planning a new one :-)"
