  • Hawaii heaven

"We just returned from a week at Turtle place. I can not even begin to describe how nice the place is. Traveled from the east coast for a week on the Big Island. We have two boys ages 13, 11. Prior to our trip we had narrowed it down to about three vrbo places. We decided to stay at turtle place because we liked the location. You are 5 miles from downtown Kona and less than a mile to a grocery store and about 30 mins south of Kona airport. We talked to Stacey prior to booking and she was very sweet and informative. The condo has everything you could want: beach towels, snorkel gear for family of four, boogie boards, umbrella, cooler. Top floor has king sized bed, nice bathroom and shower and sweet porch to drink your coffee on in the morning. 2nd floor has living area, kitchen, another lanai, 2nd bedroom with private lanai. Lots of space. Kitchen has more than you will need and a welcome basket awaited us full of Kona coffee, fruit, and candy. There is no air conditioning but plenty of fans. We were gone most days from 10a.m.-8 p.m. I was hot the first night... but, think I was just a mess from our 14+hour travel day. Outside temps were low 80's during the day and low 70's at night. If you are someone who likes air conditioning and plan to spend a lot of time during the day in the condo then this place may not be for you. We explored the island...put over a 1000 miles on our rental jeep (highly recommend) and had the vacation of a lifetime. We swam with dolphins in Kealakekua bay, snorkeled with turtles at Punalu'u Beach park, snorkeled "two-step" (boys favorite), snorkeled Kapoho tide pools. Jumped off the cliffs in South point (scarey), saw hot lava at Kilauea volcano. Spent a day touring Kohala coast beaches (where Marriott Waikoloa is). We are SOOOOO happy we did NOT stay or rent in that area...highly commercialized, chain restaurants, "fake" beaches. I do not think that is true Hawaii but if you like pools, big resort feel, you may like it. The last day we drove to Waipi'o Valley and my oh my what beauty! We did the drive to the left of the lookout which requires a 4 wheel drive and nerve...highlight of the trip...waterfall, wild horses, huge waves at beach...crazy beautiful. We then continued on to Kahuna Falls, Umauma Falls and Akaka Falls. Had dinner at a low key Mexican restaurant in Hilo and Jack Black was in the restaurant eating...my boys got a kick out of that. A fabulous vacation! Thank you Stacey! Maholo!"

  • 3rd Visit to this condo

"Always a perfect match for my family when we come to Kona. Double master with three full bathrooms...c'mon, its a no-brainer. The rates are super competitive and you will get a return customer discount. Previous users leave very useful things like beach chairs, coolers, sun block, food prep ingredients...and I always leave something as well. The pool and pool deck are awesome for all ages. AC works well...but be warned, it is only in the bedrooms...the main area stays warm pretty much always. Can be a problem if someone uses the fold out couch and is not okay with it being warm. Also, there are a lot of fans, like, everywhere. So you can combat it pretty well. If you need a two bedroom condo, look no further."

  • We enjoyed our five-night stay here and would return with no worries.

"This unit is at good location between two very popular beaches. It is well-maintained with nice furniture, and has a good offering of appliances and related supplies. Good for a couple or a small family that can sleep together in a single room. The driveway is a little tricky to negotiate in a large vehicle, but we managed in our 4WD Ford Expedition. Because of the unusual bad weather they had during our stay, we lost wifi for 3 of the 5 days and couldn't recover, but the owner was very responsive in trying to help. It turned out that we couldn't fix the problem because the upstairs neighbors were away and the equipment was located in that apartment. The owner gave us a small amount of financial compensation for the trouble, which we appreciated. But I would say if you have any trouble while there, you will at least get prompt attention."

  • The Best Yet!!!

"My family and I have had many trips to the Islands over the years, and this condo exceeded any that we have stayed in! The location was perfect--situated on gorgeous lava framed waterfront with unobstructed views of the bay. We watched a couple whales spout and dive our first morning there and could see the cruise ships arrive and depart (only a couple days, but a good time to avoid downtown Kona!) The unit was well equipped and the beds and furniture were very comfortable. We enjoyed our Kona coffee and papayas on the expansive lanai each morning to the sounds of tropical birds and crashing waves. We had the best shaved ice on the Islands nearly every day at Aloha One (using pureed tropical fruits as their syrup and macadamia nut or coconut ice cream in the center). We took side trips to Havi, a darling town at the north end of the Island, and an overnight trip to Volcano House situated on the rim of Kilauea, which was quite active during our visit. It's amazing to see molten lava up close and personal!! The hikes along the rim, complete with steam vents (which were very welcome on the day we visited) and to the lava tube were easy. The snorkeling at Kahaluu Beach Park is the best I have ever experienced in all my travels (get there by 9 a.m. before the bulk of the tourists arrive and you'll get to swim with turtles!). Very nice cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Don't miss GypSea Gelato, just a short drive from the condo (yes, we like our desserts!!) This will be a vacation you will not forget, and a condo that will rank among your top!!"
