  • Exceptional!!

"We spent three weeks enjoying this lovely house, that has an exceptional layout and location! We have rented many homes over the years on VRBO, a few of which are on the Big Island, and we have to say this house was one of the very best. You simply can not beat the location; it is a nice short walk to town, but you will be hard pressed to want to leave the house! We had worried initially about being on the main road through town, but found it was very easy to get in and out, with a side street close by that hopped you up and away from town. We spent a lot of time enjoying the oceanfront pool and large pool deck with it's many comfy loungers. The ocean view is spectacular and the sunsets are stunning. We watched pods of dolphins playing out front and passing by daily. As avid scuba divers, we enjoy the underwater world and found the little reef right out front to be an excellent snorkelling location (a little care needs to be taken to enter and exit, but the reef is very nice and there is a abundant variety of fish right there in your 'front yard'). We found the house to be private and peaceful, with soothing ocean waves lulling you to sleep at night. Many nights we enjoyed a BBQ dinner on the deck and found the kitchen to be well stocked with everything you need to make a nice meal. The hot tub was a fantastic way to end the day; it was so nice to be able to relax, watch the ocean waves and star gaze. The house itself is unique, in that it has 3 good sized bedrooms, each having their own ensuite bathroom and there is another full bathroom downstairs---this is such a great feature especially when travelling with friends or family--privacy for all! We would not hesitate to recommend this house at all and we plan to book it again for our next trip to the Big Island."

  • Great house for a week with family!

"We recently spent a week in this Kailua-Kona house with 18 people - 9 adults and 9 kids ranging in age from 3 months to 12 years old. The location is great, right in the heart of everything - and there was plenty of space for everyone to hang out alone or together. The inside living room has a huge couch (big enough for 9 children plus a couple of adults!) and the outside dining table in the screened in porch was a good place for communal meals. The owners were so great and very responsive to emails. They were helpful in making sure we had everything we needed for our stay, including two pack and plays, a high chair, lifejackets for children. The house was well stocked with spices in the kitchen and fridge, beach toys (and a whole bucket of water shoes), beach towels. A few things you should know, especially if traveling with a wide age range of people like we were: 1. The six bedrooms are separated on two floors with three rooms on each floor. The bedrooms on the ground floor can only be accessed from an outside door, which can be a concern if you have little ones. Two of the three bedrooms upstairs are also accessed by external doors, but at least these are within the lockable screened-in-porch area. There is only one bedroom that adjoins the kitchen/living room. 2. Though there are screens on the windows there is no glass, which makes sound an issue if you have people getting up and going to sleep at different times. The upstairs back bedrooms back on to the pool so any late or early pool noise would be an issue if someone is sleeping. Also, the bedroom attached to the upstairs living room is completely open at the top so absolutely not soundproof at all. 3. The back bedrooms can get really hot, even with all fans going. They don't get access to the night time breeze like the front bedrooms do. 4. The pool is great for kids because it's shallow, but for adults consider it more of a dip pool. 5. The house is in a great location however between Kahalu'u Beach and Magic Sands. But I would not consider it walking distance to Kahalu'u with kids, and with toddlers/preschoolers we didn't walk to Magic Sands either...not with all our beach gear in tow! Overall, we had a great week on the Big Island. There was so much to see and do we couldn't get it all in. The night manta snorkel/dive is a must do. We also chartered a boat for a morning with the dolphins/snorkeling. Mahalo!!"

  • Lovely quiet tropical garden setting

"My husband and I and 3 adult children and 2 grandchildren spent a week in Kevin's airy home. The setting was perfect for us. The best parts were: being able to stroll across the lawn, go out the gate and snorkel off the rocks about 50 yards from our back porch; walking about a 1/4 mile to White Sands beach, or strolling to the end of the property and swimming in the pool or watching the sunset from the pool edge. The house itself was comfortable and well designed for our group and had everything we needed. The weather was very hot and humid during our stay so there were times when the lack of air conditioning was a negative. I would definitely return to this home."
