  • Exceptional!!

"We spent three weeks enjoying this lovely house, that has an exceptional layout and location! We have rented many homes over the years on VRBO, a few of which are on the Big Island, and we have to say this house was one of the very best. You simply can not beat the location; it is a nice short walk to town, but you will be hard pressed to want to leave the house! We had worried initially about being on the main road through town, but found it was very easy to get in and out, with a side street close by that hopped you up and away from town. We spent a lot of time enjoying the oceanfront pool and large pool deck with it's many comfy loungers. The ocean view is spectacular and the sunsets are stunning. We watched pods of dolphins playing out front and passing by daily. As avid scuba divers, we enjoy the underwater world and found the little reef right out front to be an excellent snorkelling location (a little care needs to be taken to enter and exit, but the reef is very nice and there is a abundant variety of fish right there in your 'front yard'). We found the house to be private and peaceful, with soothing ocean waves lulling you to sleep at night. Many nights we enjoyed a BBQ dinner on the deck and found the kitchen to be well stocked with everything you need to make a nice meal. The hot tub was a fantastic way to end the day; it was so nice to be able to relax, watch the ocean waves and star gaze. The house itself is unique, in that it has 3 good sized bedrooms, each having their own ensuite bathroom and there is another full bathroom downstairs---this is such a great feature especially when travelling with friends or family--privacy for all! We would not hesitate to recommend this house at all and we plan to book it again for our next trip to the Big Island."

  • Ocean getaway

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location of the home is perfect. Amazing views of the ocean. The bay next to the house is one of the most popular snorkeling places on the island. They provide snorkel gear, but after looking at it we chose to buy our own instead. There is surfing right outside of the home, and two surf boards were provided for use. The surfboards actually looked to be in great condition and perfect for the beginner waves out front. The bed was comfortable and we really liked the newly updated shower. There were bugs, but it sounds like that is something you just have to deal with in Hawaii. The one thing I would definitely change would be installing an A/C unit in the bedroom at least. With no A/C it was far to hot and humid in the home to comfortably sleep. The waves outside the house were actually quite loud for sleeping as well, so I would have preferred to keep the sliding door shut at night. Even with having the windows and doors open at night, and three fans on, it was still too hot most of the nights to comfortably sleep. Overall, amazing house and location, but next time I will definitely look for a place with an air conditioner."

  • Great place for a family reunion

"We had a wonderful week with my two brothers and their families. We had 11 total - the adults stayed up on the second floor and all the kids bunked down below, which was a great setup. Hale Honu is perfectly situated right on the ocean and we went snorkeling almost every day right in front of the house, or next door at Magic Sands. We ate in a lot and used the BBQ grill and 2nd floor deck to eat dinner and watch the sun go down. Peter and Darla have stocked the laundry room with tons of snorkeling gear, boogie boards, beach towels, etc. so you don't need to bring anything - and their instructions are really meticulous and detailed. Only thing I would caution is if you are a light sleeper, the ocean is pretty loud, especially if you have to leave the windows open because it is hot. For us it was not a bother and I would not hesitate to come back in the future."

  • A Trip to Paradise

"Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We booked this house as it was a perfect location and a great price. First note is the pictures do not do the house justice. Yes the house is older/bit dated, but perfect for what you need. How nice to have a full kitchen, we cooked a few meals at the house even grilled one night. The grounds are stunning. We all had our own rooms with an ocean view. We were able to go to bed to the sounds of the ocean each night. Each morning we would have coffee on the lanai and watch the tour boats head out for the day, some snorkel boats stopping out from our house bringing in dolphins to watch. The Queen's pool was a nice touch with sea life in it. We were close to town a great location. The hot tub was a nice touch as well. The manager answered all my pesky questions, I had allot. It was very hard to leave, as by the end of our vacation it felt like home. I cannot wait to go back"
