"We just returned from a week at Turtle place. I can not even begin to describe how nice the place is. Traveled from the east coast for a week on the Big Island. We have two boys ages 13, 11. Prior to our trip we had narrowed it down to about three vrbo places. We decided to stay at turtle place because we liked the location. You are 5 miles from downtown Kona and less than a mile to a grocery store and about 30 mins south of Kona airport. We talked to Stacey prior to booking and she was very sweet and informative. The condo has everything you could want: beach towels, snorkel gear for family of four, boogie boards, umbrella, cooler. Top floor has king sized bed, nice bathroom and shower and sweet porch to drink your coffee on in the morning. 2nd floor has living area, kitchen, another lanai, 2nd bedroom with private lanai. Lots of space. Kitchen has more than you will need and a welcome basket awaited us full of Kona coffee, fruit, and candy. There is no air conditioning but plenty of fans. We were gone most days from 10a.m.-8 p.m. I was hot the first night... but, think I was just a mess from our 14+hour travel day. Outside temps were low 80's during the day and low 70's at night. If you are someone who likes air conditioning and plan to spend a lot of time during the day in the condo then this place may not be for you. We explored the island...put over a 1000 miles on our rental jeep (highly recommend) and had the vacation of a lifetime. We swam with dolphins in Kealakekua bay, snorkeled with turtles at Punalu'u Beach park, snorkeled "two-step" (boys favorite), snorkeled Kapoho tide pools. Jumped off the cliffs in South point (scarey), saw hot lava at Kilauea volcano. Spent a day touring Kohala coast beaches (where Marriott Waikoloa is). We are SOOOOO happy we did NOT stay or rent in that area...highly commercialized, chain restaurants, "fake" beaches. I do not think that is true Hawaii but if you like pools, big resort feel, you may like it. The last day we drove to Waipi'o Valley and my oh my what beauty! We did the drive to the left of the lookout which requires a 4 wheel drive and nerve...highlight of the trip...waterfall, wild horses, huge waves at beach...crazy beautiful. We then continued on to Kahuna Falls, Umauma Falls and Akaka Falls. Had dinner at a low key Mexican restaurant in Hilo and Jack Black was in the restaurant eating...my boys got a kick out of that. A fabulous vacation! Thank you Stacey! Maholo!"
