  • Location and value good

"Room was comfortable. Sunsets were beautiful. Electric grill was different. Turtles on rocks across street fun to watch. Blender missing but owner was willing to take care of."

  • Christmas trip to Hawaii

"We rented this house for a week over Christmas 2016. There were five of us, my wife and I, our two sons and daughter-in-law. The house was great! Plenty of room -- each of the rooms was big enough for some privacy. The house overall was organized very well. Nice open kitchen, dining area which really seated six (or possibly more) people, and enough chairs and couch in the living room for all of us to sit down. There was air conditioning to cool it down when you get home, but other than cooling it down, there was usually a breeze and we didn't need the air conditioning. There was usually a soft breeze overnight, and we slept with the windows open every night and were perfectly comfortable. The neighborhood was residential (and upscale) and very quiet. In the morning when we woke up, we could hear very soft birdsong. A truly tranquil setting. The location was excellent -- close to everything, but not in the middle of the hustle and bustle. Just a few minutes from a grocery store and pretty much everything else we needed. We toured north, south, and east, and this was a great place to start from. The kitchen is advertised as a "gourmet" kitchen, and while a lot of people say that, in this case, it really is a gourmet kitchen. The stove had two ovens, there is a great central island to do the preparation with stools on one side so people can participate or just hang out as desired. Rice cooker, blender, bagel toaster, absolutely huge refrigerator and freezer. Plenty of silverware and dishes and glasses. They actually have kitchen knives that were sharp enough to let us carve a turkey. We saved a bunch of money cooking for ourselves, and it was a pleasure to do it. The bathrooms were new and upscale, beautifully done. There was plenty of space to sit outdoors, either in the sun on the south side of the house, or in the shade on the west. The sunsets to the west were truly impressive, and the view was great. The owner was very helpful and responsive throughout the process of renting the house. We would rent this house again in an instant! I just hope the next VRBO house we rent somewhere else is half as nice as this one is. The pictures for the listing for this house (as I write this review at least) do not do it justice. They are fine (and bring back fond memories), but it is nicer, brighter, and much more cheerful than the pictures convey. This is a lovely house, and our whole group was more than delighted with it."

  • Absolutely amazing!!!!

"My husband and I were blessed to find this fabulous condo. I can not say enough about the condo and its location! It is right on the ocean. Words can not describe how incredibly beautiful the view is from the lanai which is basically the entire back side of the living room and master bedroom. We have rented many condos over the years and have never found one with such a large lanai. It is a true extension of the living space complete with a dining room table, 2 comfortable lounge chairs and side table! We never used the air conditioning and instead just opened up the 2 large sliding glass doors out to the lanai for open air living space. We spent a great deal of time on the lanai just watching the waves crash, dolphin pods swimming by, whales breaching, and of course the beautiful sunsets. Best of all is this condo is on the top floor of the condo complex so it is extremely quiet and peaceful. It is perfectly located and just a few minutes from restaurants in Kona. I also can not thank Paul enough at Big Island Front Desk. He was available by phone with any questions and was extremely accommodating to make our stay perfect!"

  • Great location in the heart of town.

"The condo unit is in the heart of downtown right behind the stores on Ali'i Drive. As people have noted before, the AC units from those stores are pretty loud so you won't be hearing the waves, but we found we got used to it really quickly and did end up spending a lot of time out there on the large balcony. You can access Ali'i Drive directly from the underground parking garage and the pool was lovely to spend 30 minutes in when things got a little too hot outside. The condo had everything we needed and is the perfect size for a couple. The beach mats, beach towels, snorkels and masks, boogie boards, and other items available for use were a great addition that we used regularly. Mary was very responsive when we had questions and we won't hesitate to book again the next time we're in Kona."
