  • Private tropical beauty and comfort

"I adored this upstairs studio. As designed, the gorgeous wood beam high ceiling does remind me of sleeping in a wooden ship. Covered carport parking was definitely a plus. The stainless steel and granite countertop kitchen had everything I needed: coffee grinder, coffee maker, toaster, blender, microwave. Even without AC the three large ceiling fans and six sliding glass doors cooled it down at night. VERY PRIVATE yard with full-size clothesline and fabulous outside enclosed H/C shower. Only thing to keep in mind: Rental location is a good 15-minute drive down or up a winding, paved, steepish road to get to main road where food, gas, shopping are. Walk to Manini Beach. Narrow rocky entrance to snorkeling on Kealakekua Bay--THE BEST."

  • Quiet, Friendly & Centrally Located

"I stayed here for 4 nights during a writing/vacation trip to the Big Island. It was wonderful. I stayed in a downstairs unit that had tons of windows, which provided plenty of natural light and fresh air. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything I needed to make my own meals. The bed was comfy with lots of pillows, & there was a ton of closet/storage space. The unit was clean & surprisingly spacious for a studio-style set up. The property location was perfect. 10 minute drive from the airport. The house is up on the mountain & in the clouds, but I was down at the beach & in the sun (weather varies dramatically here, even within a couple of miles) in less than 10 minutes. This is something to consider, because it's cooler up on the mountain & may make for more comfortable sleeping after a long, hot day at the beach. The house is in a quiet, calm, tropical residential neighborhood. It's a 4 minute drive up the mountain to a well-stocked neighborhood grocery store called Matsuyama Food Mart. The store has some decent carry out food--pizza & Hawaiian-Asian cuisine if you don't feel like cooking. The larger chain grocery stores like Safeway are a 15-20 minute drive down the mountain. Groceries are expensive here, & I didn't find the prices at a place like Safeway much different than those at Matsuyama's. There were considerate touches from Della that made my stay even better: beautiful leis & a tropical bouquet to greet me; tons of fresh clean towels; fresh papaya & cherries from trees just outside the door; snorkeling & beach equipment for free (warning: test the snorkeling equipment before using in the ocean. I found a lot of missing or broken parts from past guest use/abuse); & farm fresh eggs from Della's chicken coup. The other folks staying on the property were quiet, considerate & friendly. I was a young woman traveling alone & felt completely safe. The whole place was quiet by 10pm & the other guests/tenants were up and moving by about 6am (it was hard to sleep past this time because of this, so just be aware if you're a night owl). Overall, I would highly recommend this place!!"

  • Wonderful house for a Hawaiian vacation!

"We had such an incredible time in Hawaii and this rental house was a big part of the reason why! Ten of us stayed in this spacious home and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. The house was very well-equipped (everything you'd want in a kitchen and more:) and we were grateful for the "extras" such as pool toys, water shoes, snorkel equipment, etc. The house's location was great and Zac was responsive and helpful, whenever we had a concern. We enjoyed the pool every day and both the air conditioning and bathrooms in each of the bedrooms were useful. We had an amazing stay in Hawaii and would love to come back to this house any time!"

  • Excellent

"Rick's house on Kealakekua Bay is spacious and beautiful. It is well designed, immaculate and it has everything you need for a great vacation. The old school Hawaiian style beach is a short walk down the road for swimming and relaxing . The house has great views of the bay, sunsets, the surf and even the Captain Cook monument across the bay. The area is full of Hawaiian history and archaeological monuments. It is well located right next to the bay with a great market at the top of the hill and a couple quaint villages near by for dining. I would definitely go back here. Thanks Rick! It was an easy relaxing week!"
