  • Wonderfully comfortable and relaxing, gorgeous views and great amenities

"We would go back in a heartbeat, and definitely try to book this unit again. Yes it is a 3-floor walk-up, and there is no air conditioning, but with plenty of fans, sliding screen doors, an expansive wrap-around lanai for outdoor dining, watching sunsets and breaking waves, it's hard to picture a nicer spot. We only closed the glass sliders one evening when a tropical storm blew by. This an end unit with south and west exposure, really great views from third floor level. Third floor gives you the most privacy also. Being on the top floor, this unit had great high sloping ceilings which added significantly to the feeling of openness. There are two bedrooms, two bathrooms, washer/dryer, a perfectly adequate kitchen with all the standard expected appliances, and the refrigerator has a dynamite ice maker and there are lots of cold packs in the freezer. Good size combined dining and living room, but my wife and I took all our meals out to the dining table on the lanai. Main bedroom area has a king bed, view of the ocean and there are sliding shoji screens that can be closed to provide privacy from the living/dining area if so desired. This bed was very comfortable. Second bedroom has a queen size bed and the windows in this room face the mountains. There are plenty of closets, lots of hangers, beach toys like noodles, coolers for packing lunches for day trips, plenty of beach towels, bath linens, etc. Although we only used the TV to check storm forecasts the instructions were easy to understand and lots of channels available. Also CD player in the unit and wi-fi in the complex. It seemed plenty fast for the business correspondence I occasionally needed to do with my morning coffee. I brought binoculars but owner also has two pair in the unit. The KKSRC has three really nice tennis courts and a large pool which is about to undergo some refurbishment. We spent time there every day and it was delightful. The grounds are very well tended and the landscaping is quite mature and lovely. To give the condo buildings and the townhouses some additional privacy there is no long continuous walk along the water edge or rather the 20'+ high, broken lava cliff edge. You can walk along a couple of the buildings and then the paths end either in broken lava scree or dense low barrier hedges which you don't want to try to walk through. Being an older resort (35+ years) it was built quite close to the ocean edge which makes for a delightful and picturesque setting."

  • Great location, clean, everything needed supplied

"Lovely place, really enjoyed staying there, very clean and well maintained. All amenities as needed. Great location, very near to the main street with restaurants and shops. Nice to have balcony to watch from. Walking distance to local beach was great, and very good for snorkelling. Easy to park car. Swimming pool looked great, but never got to use it as so many beaches to choose from and lots of boat trips. Would stay there again."

  • Great Condo, Great Location

"This is a wonderfully large condo, with a location right on the ocean front. My husband is handicapped, which is why we booked this condo: it has a roll-in shower and an accessible bathroom with grab bars and raised toilets--not always easy to find in condo rentals. Weather was really hot this time of year (late September), with virtually no wind, so we appreciated the A/C during our week long stay. There were some problems with the television reception. Directions listed in the "help" book don't work at all, but I was able to get the set working. And the cable company was working on the property, resulting in loss of reception for a time. Also, there are no working telephones in the condo. Apparently, they are not even hooked up. If you need to call re an emergency, keep your cell charged at all times--it will be your only phone. The condo is very well stocked with anything you might need for simple living, including lots of seasonings. We had some insect problems in the kitchen (small ants), but I was able to eliminate them with Simple Green found under the kitchen sink. Also had a huge cockroach, but finally got rid of him, too. There is a small refrigerator outside, but it is in dire need of defrosting. We didn't need to use it at all. The ocean views and privacy of the condo are exceptional. We both enjoyed sitting on the lanai in the morning, having breakfast and watching the outriggers go by. Didn't see any dolphins, but certainly loved watching the surf hit the lava rocks. There's a shopping area just up the hill, perfect for picking up groceries at the KTA or getting a quick meal at L & L or Subway. Covered parking is close by, but be sure to drop off any handicapped person near the condo before using the very small space. Exiting the car is not always easy, if the other space is occupied. We truly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again in the future, health willing. The condo is very well furnished, large, and in a great location. Go for it!"

  • Comfortable Condo

"While these condos have some age to them, they are well maintained. From the groundskeepers, to the maintenance and housekeeping these people are as friendly and helpful as anyone could want. We have stayed in different locations on the Big Island and we were curious how the geographic location of this condo would be for the activities that we normally arrange. We were very close to the coffee farms and at least an hour closer to the Southern end of the island. Arriving 2 days before the Ironman competition this location was convenient for accessing the south side of the island as the main roads going north are closed on the day of the race. This condo is located close to shopping as well as one of the local farmers markets. This condo has a well equipped with a nice variety of cooking utensils. The only issue that we had with this condo was the filter for the ventilation system was extremely dirty and needed to be replaced. After searching at various stores we were able to find a replacement, remember you are on an island and some things just are not so easy to find. There are a fair number of stair flights to climb to get into and within this unit, so if you have difficulty climbing stairs this place may not be well suited for your needs. Overall we were happy with choosing this property and it shall remain one of our choices for the future."
