  • Hawaii heaven

"We just returned from a week at Turtle place. I can not even begin to describe how nice the place is. Traveled from the east coast for a week on the Big Island. We have two boys ages 13, 11. Prior to our trip we had narrowed it down to about three vrbo places. We decided to stay at turtle place because we liked the location. You are 5 miles from downtown Kona and less than a mile to a grocery store and about 30 mins south of Kona airport. We talked to Stacey prior to booking and she was very sweet and informative. The condo has everything you could want: beach towels, snorkel gear for family of four, boogie boards, umbrella, cooler. Top floor has king sized bed, nice bathroom and shower and sweet porch to drink your coffee on in the morning. 2nd floor has living area, kitchen, another lanai, 2nd bedroom with private lanai. Lots of space. Kitchen has more than you will need and a welcome basket awaited us full of Kona coffee, fruit, and candy. There is no air conditioning but plenty of fans. We were gone most days from 10a.m.-8 p.m. I was hot the first night... but, think I was just a mess from our 14+hour travel day. Outside temps were low 80's during the day and low 70's at night. If you are someone who likes air conditioning and plan to spend a lot of time during the day in the condo then this place may not be for you. We explored the island...put over a 1000 miles on our rental jeep (highly recommend) and had the vacation of a lifetime. We swam with dolphins in Kealakekua bay, snorkeled with turtles at Punalu'u Beach park, snorkeled "two-step" (boys favorite), snorkeled Kapoho tide pools. Jumped off the cliffs in South point (scarey), saw hot lava at Kilauea volcano. Spent a day touring Kohala coast beaches (where Marriott Waikoloa is). We are SOOOOO happy we did NOT stay or rent in that area...highly commercialized, chain restaurants, "fake" beaches. I do not think that is true Hawaii but if you like pools, big resort feel, you may like it. The last day we drove to Waipi'o Valley and my oh my what beauty! We did the drive to the left of the lookout which requires a 4 wheel drive and nerve...highlight of the trip...waterfall, wild horses, huge waves at beach...crazy beautiful. We then continued on to Kahuna Falls, Umauma Falls and Akaka Falls. Had dinner at a low key Mexican restaurant in Hilo and Jack Black was in the restaurant eating...my boys got a kick out of that. A fabulous vacation! Thank you Stacey! Maholo!"

  • Lovely wrap-around lanai outside plus new A/C inside!

"We were two couples sharing the unit during Ironman week in October. We really enjoyed the large kitchen, common area, and lanai of this extremely well-equipped condo. Snorkels/fins/masks, rubber beach shoes, beach chairs, boogie boards and more are included in the large closets of the spacious condo (please see list of items for everything else provided). One bedroom has two queens and a closed door, while the other "bedroom" with the king bed is separated from the great-room-type living area only by Japanese-style opaque sliding screens, offering limited privacy. It was hot & humid enough during our stay that the A/C was a blessing, and we left the bedroom partition screens open and used vertical floor fans to circulate cool air to both bedrooms. Very comfy beds with nice soft linens. Baths are in adjacent hallways - both nicely appointed, with stacked washer/dryer in one. One minor issue was a child in the unit above us running around noisily during some late/early hours, despite our request to one of the parents (another renter, presumably) to respect quiet time. Although this complex doesn't front a sandy beach directly, there is a small beach adjacent to the northern end, and a wonderful walk-in snorkel bay at Kahaluu Beach, just a 5-10 minute walk north on Ali'i Drive. Lots of sea turtles in the shallows close to shore, many colorful fish further out toward rock wall. Tip: get there early, beat the crowds (walk in before parking lot gate opens at 7am). You can also walk south of the complex on Ali'i Drive up a hill to the Keauhou shopping center, which offers a nice grocery store, Hawaiian BBQ grab & go, free local Hula Show Friday evening, brew pub, plus lots more. Bill & Shirley are wonderful owners who truly cared about making sure we were comfortable, and kept in contact throughout the rental process and checked up during our stay as well. They provided recommendations on activities and restaurants, which was helpful in making the most of our first visit to the Big Island. Mahalo to them for a nice week in their lovely condo!"

  • Relaxing and Great Condo!

"We had a great time staying in unit 203 at the Kanaloa at Kona resort. The condo itself was very well stocked, large and very clean. Loved the beds (its my biggest complaint usually). Lots of little things (spices, condiments, etc) were all taken care of. The welcome basket was very thoughtful and shows the great hospitality of its owners. We LOVED it! Sitting on the balcony watching the golfers stroll by was extremely relaxing and very quiet. The facilities in the complex were great. The pools were wonderful especially the oceanside one and we spent hours hanging out there with our 5 yr old. It was a short 5 min walk from the unit. We really enjoyed the fact that we were outside the hustle and bustle of the downtown area. We would HIGHLY recommend this unit and complex. We will definitely look them up the next time we visit the island. Mahalo!"

  • Beautiful vacation

"We were in Kona for the Ironman and this was a great place to stay. The townhouse was great. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything we needed. I forgot to get our coffee ground but no worries Rita had one! Every meal we had in the house we ate outside on the lania with the view of the ocean! I was surprised and pleased to see that Rita provided shampoo and conditioner. The location was awesome 4-5 miles from the village and a 1/2 mile from a great grocery store. Even before we arrived I was impressed with Rita's communication and the great suggestions she offered! The place was very clean as well. What more can I say, we loved it. Thanks Rita"
