  • Another day in paradise

"The house was simply amazing, right on the water and you are able to hear the ocean all day & night long! There is an access point to some of the best snorkeling on the island, about a 2 minute walk away. You can climb on the rocks to get a better view of the view but would not suggest entering the water this way. The house is clean with everything you will need to make your stay as comfy as possible"

  • Christmas and New Year's at The Cove

"First of all, I have to express gratitude to Melanie and Craig for allowing us to book this house well in advance of our travel since it was a retirement trip for my friend. The house is exactly as described and we found it to be very comfortable. It was also very well equipped. Probably our favorite extras were the fans which provided white noise to cover snoring and coughs (yes, we all got some crazy cough). The pool was a little cold for us to use much, but the hot tub was a delight. We were there every night looking at the beautiful sky. Loved the sounds of the waves crashing. I could definitely get used to living there:). My only complaint is that there is no TV on the main floor of the house. I am a terrible insomniac and would have liked to have a TV during those 1 a.m. periods of no sleep. There is one downstairs, but you have to go outside to access it. Also, two suggestions - have a refrigerator downstairs. Since you really need to stock up before the journey to the house, an overflow frig would be great AND it would be so nice to have a place to stash sodas (and margaritas) next to the pool. The second is to include on the intro to the house, instructions on how to operate the fan/lights. After traveling for almost 24 hours and arriving to darkness in the house, we had a hard time figuring out the lights. Also a complaint that is not within Craig and Melanie's control are the large dogs across the street. They bark at every person, car and sometimes it seemed leaves blowing in the wind. They did take them in around 10 at night so at least they didn't bark all night. As to the location, we loved it because the little village was so quiet and the sitting next to the ocean was magical. But know that it is a solid hour's drive from Kona. However, there are two decent markets to the south. No fancy ingredients, but they had all the basics and only 15 to 20 minutes away (also super cheap gas in the same center). All in all, I highly recommend this beautiful place. Craig and Melanie were great to work with. Thank you for allowing us to stay here especially during the holidays since I know you use it for your family."

  • Great vacation spot!

"My partner, our little girl, and I stayed here for a week and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The house was clean and comfortable, the kitchen functional and reasonably stocked with spices and condiments (and coffee!), the view from the porch SPECTACULAR. We really appreciated the quiet neighborhood filled with tropical flowers, the responsiveness of the owner, and the good quality BBQ grill (and spare gas bottle) that allowed us to enjoy the porch every night as we cooked dinner. It's been noted previously that the house is somewhat remote, and that's true - about 30 minutes to the nearest grocery store - but that wasn't a problem for us, we wanted to get away from the bustle of Kona. All-in-all, we had a great time and would happily stay here again. The only minor fix I can suggest would be to re-install the sliding screen door to the porch and to the second window in the main bedroom...we needed to keep all the windows open for ventilation and there are a few mosquitoes around. Thanks for a great vacation, Laure!"

  • No More Hotels This is The Way To Vacation!

"Our group of eight really enjoyed our 10 night stay at this property. There was ample free parking for all 4 rental cars onsite, unlike a hotel stay in Hawaii where parking is often a hassle and an extra charge. The house well more than large enough for everyone in our party, was well stocked, maintained and clean. We flipped a coin for bedrooms and settled in. We ate most breakfasts and quite a few dinners in the home. Grocery shopping was done about 20 minutes back in Kona at the Safeway. One person in our party really enjoys cooking so we put him to work on the outdoor barbecue for some great meals. We were on the road everyday taking in the local sights and activities. You do need a car on this Island if you want to explore and see everything. The home is located on a quiet street so you hardly hear a car on the road. We spent most evenings relaxing out on the outdoor furniture on the lanai or down at the saltwater pool and hot tub. We found that the mini fridge in the poolside Cabana was handy as we filled it with our favorite beer and didn't have to send someone up to the house for refills. The home face west so the sunsets are beautiful. The frogs do start up at dusk and go through the night until sun up. Their singing helped put everyone to sleep. If we come back to the Big Island we will definetly stay here again."
