  • Beautiful house/setting, easily accommodated group of 8

"The pictures of this place do not do it justice. When you drive down the long, very steep and windy road to get here you wonder what you are getting yourself into and then you open the door to this beautifully decorated house (reminded me of what I would imagine an expat house in India looks like) with views of the ocean from the dining room, kitchen, and one of the bedrooms, lanais everywhere, a hot tub, a hammock...it is amazing. We were a family of 8 - 2 little kids (5,9), 3 grandparents, and 3 adults. The house easily accommodated us sleeping wise and never felt crowded. It was clean and well stocked. My kids loved being a hop away from the pebble beach and played in the waves almost every day. We walked to the black sand beach once but my kids liked the pebble beach the best. The crater rim hike leaving from the pebble beach is nice (fyi, 7:45 is too late to start - hot and no shade!). The house is nicely situated for sightseeing in S. Kona - we went to the kula kai caverns, volcano national park, and the place of refuge. If you aren't a vegetarian, be sure to get some local grass fed beef and shaved ice from the Kealia ranch store. Check out the smoothies and baked goods (and great guacamole) at the S. Kona fruit stand. The only word of caution/thing I wish we did more of was plan our food a little better. This house is a little off the beaten path - an hour from Costco (and the airport), 30 min in either direction for groceries, and 15-20 min from restaurants. So if you can get most of your groceries for your stay on you way in definitely do that and then supplement here and there (there is a nice farmers market on Sun in Capt. Cook). We planned day by day and that wasn't really ideal for us. You could easily come to this house for a week and never go anywhere else - you have an amazing house, easy access to 2 beaches, hiking - or you can use it as a nice base and travel around the island. We didn't have a chance to meet Deanna in person but she was extremely responsive over email."

  • A wonderful getaway spot on the South Kona coast

"This place is great for a couple with nice ocean and sunset views. We loved hanging out on the lanai watching the geckos and listening to the birds. Our main reason for picking this location was the proximity to Hawaii Volcanoes Natl Park - little more than an hour away. Although a bit of a treck to the store, we were out often enough to plan shopping with our outings. The little beach noted by the owners was a great place for a first time snorkeler. The home is very well appointed with very comfy bed. We enjoyed the hot tub too! Thanks for the nice accomodations!"

  • Loved spring break at the cove

"We felt like we knew what to expect from the pictures and the other reviews, but I have to say the experience, the house and the view were even better than we expected. The view from the infinity pool was amazing and we loved the hot tub. We were there to witness spectacular sunsets on 5 of 7 nights. We slept to the sound of waves crashing on the rocks every night. The frontage down to the ocean is a little steep and rocky, but it was no problem for me and my family (2 teenage boys - 14 and 16). The seas were calm enough a few days for us to hop in and snorkel in the cove. There was a sea turtle and a variety of colorful tangs, wrasses and huge parrot fish hanging out there. I'd guess its 15-20 feet deep as soon as you jump in. A couple of rock structures made a ledge for a decent way out of the water. You have to use common sense though, there were a couple days the seas were way too rough. Safety first! The location of the house was a nice compromise for us since we wanted to visit the green sand beach and the volcano & lava tube on the south and south east part of the island as well as hit some of the attractions in Kona. I believe the nearest store was about 25 minutes south, while Walmart and other shopping was about a 50 minutes north. Plan your shopping and stock the fridge and cupboards. The house has everything you need to cook or barbecue on the Weber, there was even a strainer to make spaghetti or Mac n Cheese. We packed light, all carry-on, due to the full laundry available there. The house really had everything we needed. Fantastic place. Highly recommended!"

  • FAB-U-LOUS!!!

"Everything you'd need, is there! This is my 6th go around with VRBO and AirBnB and I've gotta tell you, I have yet to be disappointed. Hotels should take caution for with this option and the rates? Hotels are going to be a thing of the past. Where do I begin...privacy. The foliage is grown to offer just that...and peaceful aside from the Coqui's which is fine because my family and I slept well still. Better the Coqui's up mauka (mountain) than traffic noise and sounds of O'ahu. The house is comfortable, welcoming and very spacious. We were there for an entirely sad reason, but being in this home and only a few miles from Ho'okena Beach made the mood a little bit lighter. Bob, my family and I cannot thank you enough for your hospitality. I do apologize for the late review, but I didn't want to post a modest review. I needed to post exactly what your property deserves. I'd definitely send people your way. Mahalo Bob Hoffman a me Hale Honu!!!"
