  • We would stay here again!

"We stayed at the House of the Dancing Turtles for 9 days around Christmas. We had a great time and would stay there again for sure. The gated community is lovely and all of the houses in the neighborhood look to be well cared for, including this one. This property is very private; when you sit on the back lanai or use the lagoon, you will not see a neighbor and will feel like it is your slice of paradise. The back lanai is shaded and cool even during the heat of the day, and is a great place to sit with a cup of coffee during rain (because it does rain on this part of the island). The landscaping is jungle-like and lush. The kitchen has a coffee pot, microwave, stove, oven, rice cooker, toaster, and just about every pan, dish, gadget, or utensil you need to cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner there (which we did). We made a fantastic batch of lemon squares using lemons from the yard, which the kids got a kick out of. The laundry room/office makes checking email and doing occasional work easy and the Wi-Fi was reliable. We were able to watch our football team play because they have Dish satellite service. We did use the ohana which has a separate porch overlooking the lagoon and a small kitchen which gave those who slept there privacy. And the lagoon was amazing. We bought floating inflatable chairs with cup holders at the KTA grocery store and spent a lot of time just floating around there and watching the small fish and listening to the birds. The lagoon is deep and shady on one end and shallow and sunny on the other. It is the most lush and amazing back yard I have ever seen and we felt privileged to be able to use it. I had a lot of questions prior to our trip, and the manager answered all of them with patience and thoroughness, and we found her answers to be accurate and honest. This was our first VRBO rental and it far exceeded our expectations."

  • Relaxing Hawaiian Retreat

"My husband and I stayed here for 1 week as part of our 10 year anniversary trip. We wanted a place that would serve as a good base for us to explore everything from the green sand beach down south to the Waipio Valley up north. We also wanted something less than 30 minutes to Volcano NP as we knew we would spend 2-3 days there. As a bonus, we were hoping for a place that would feel relaxing and like a retreat at the end of a long day of hiking and exploring. The Hawaiian Hideaway definitely fit the bill and exceeded expectations in all of the characteristics we were seeking. First of all, the Hideaway is very clean! The owner gives guidelines to decrease the risk of bugs, and it's working. We did not see a single insect or bug inside of the Hideaway the entire time we were there. The cleaning service also does a phenomenal job, very thorough. The bed was comfortable and I loved falling asleep to the chirping of the frogs and awaking to the sound of the birds. What we enjoyed the most was the large screened in lanai. When we were there, we spent most of our waking hours on the lanai. Linda is extremely kind and a delight to talk to on the phone. I'm not usually one to reach out and talk to the owners, but in this case I did a couple of times and she is so incredibly sweet and nice to talk to, and she gave great recommendations. By the end of our stay, we were calling the Hawaiian Hideway "home." If my husband and I ever return to the big island we will definitely stay at the Hawaiian Hideaway again."

  • beautiful house

"We were here from 7/29 until 8/12/16. The house is beautiful and it was VERY clean. It's also well equipped and everything worked well. Kitchen appliances were more than adequate however a few more cooking utensils would be nice. There was only a spatula and a large dipper-style spoon. The weather was hot during our stay and the lack of ceiling fans made it very difficult. I bought two small fans so we could sleep more comfortably at night. The owner said she would reimburse me for the fans but I haven't received the money yet. She also said that she would invest in ceiling fans which I think is an excellent idea! The lack of ceiling fans is the only reason I rated our stay 4 stars rather than 5. Would I stay here again? Yes! IF I receive my reimbursement for the fans I purchased and IF ceiling fans are installed."

  • Romantic getaway

"The Bali Temple felt like and was a luxurious getaway. Beautiful view of the ocean across the lava fields from the palatial four poster bed, nice bathroom with fluffy towels and jacuzzi, comfortable sitting and dining areas, and well equipped kitchen. Thoughtfully decorated and stocked without feeling awkwardly lived in, it was a wonderful spot for our last 3 days on The Big Island, from which we explored Puna, Volcano, & Hilo. Hilo Bay Cafe was delicious but make sure to get an outdoor table. Loved the Ahalanui thermal pool in the evening, snorkeling at Kapoho tide pools, and walking to Uncle Robert's Market. Be here for that on Wednesday night! It was a highlight of our trip. Had hoped to see the flowing lava nearby too but it was not a 30-45 min walk from the parking area as the guards told us, but more like a couple hrs. After about 4 miles w/o appropriate sun cover or hydration, we turned back. After nightfall would be better than early morning but expect a significant hike in the dark. We loved the Bali Temple and would love to return someday to do things we didn't get to do in the area like the lava tree park, Champagne pond, hit the galleries and shops in Hilo, the botanic gardens and waterfalls north of Hilo, the black sand beach nearby, and return to Uncle Robert's."
