  • Spacious, comfortable house with great deck

"This was a great base for all of our activities! It was nice to have a house to come back to for a good night of sleep. We visited the black sand beach, snorkeled the tide pools, spent a day at Volcano National Park, saw several waterfalls, did a trek up Mauna Kea....we had good access to everything from this location! It was also really nice to be able to make a home cooked breakfast and enjoy it on the deck every day. Dinner at Kaleos was delicious. Uncle's Market on Wednesday night was also a blast! Great food, fun atmosphere, live music and only a few minutes away- The owners are very friendly and helpful. We arrived extremely late and got no complaints when we showed up for the keys, even got a quick tour. As a side note, we had a small issue during our visit (no one's fault, things just break sometimes) and it was taken care of right away!"

  • Lovely and secluded

"We enjoyed an extended family reunion with our adult children, their significant others, and our two grandchildren. Directions were clear and the house rules reasonable. The house was clean and the property well maintained. The shower in the Ohana house lacks adequate hot water and water tends to run across the floor. The bedrooms need dressers: we lived out of suitcases on the floor. The grill was rusted out, but when I brought it to Nathan's attention it was replaced right away. The deck is a wonderful place to sit, read, watch geckos, and enjoy the rainforest sights and sounds. This property is a very good value, and reasonably close to a beach, warm pond, tide pools, and the Kalapana lava flow. I would stay there again."

  • Welcoming home with views that go on forever

"We really enjoyed our stay at the MacNut Farm House. The home is smarty-designed, with a well-equipped kitchen, well-placed windows, a huge lanai, and views that go on forever. Both Michael and Mat were gracious and offered just the right level of communication. Po, the lanai cat, made our week here that much sweeter. We had breakfast every morning on the lanai, and alternated between chilling out on the lanai, watching the sky, reading, and exploring the area. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Hilo are both less than an hour’s drive, and locally, we enjoyed the warm ponds at Ahalanui Park and the Sunday Farmers Market. We ate more than our share of macadamia nuts, and appreciated the nice mix of solid wi-fi and composting. We left refreshed. We’ve never returned to the same rental, always preferring to explore someplace new, but the MacNut Farm is truly special. We hope to return."

  • This house was the exact size and location for our family and plans

"We wanted to explore the whole east coast the the Big Island with our family of nine, so this house was perfect, easy drives to the Black Sand Beach and Volcanoes National Park, but also the lava flows into the ocean and Akaka Falls. We watch the sky turn pink at sunrise from the deck. The house was very clean, with all the towels we needed, and all the instructions were very clear."
