  • Fabulous property, beautiful site - highly recommended.

"We had a marvelous 5 nights at this gorgeous property. The setting is spectacular -- it’s literally right on a collection of ponds and inlets, with kayaking and snorkeling available literally at your feet. The property itself is beautiful and in excellent condition, filled with beautiful Indonesian wood furniture, and the setting is quite private. We were two families with teen children traveling together, and we had a marvelous time sitting on the beautiful balconies staring at the ocean, snorkeling in the pond, watching the puffer fish get fed, and taking excursions to nearby tide pools, farmer’s markets, towns, as well as venturing out for zip lining, and hiking in volcano national park. We divided our Big Island stay between this property and a hotel on the Kona side, and we loved the mixture of sights and experiences, but this property definitely won the ‘specialness’ award. The kitchen was equipped for all basic cooking needs, and there’s a nice outdoor grill which we put to use. The master suite is gorgeous. There are two other bedrooms upstairs that share a bathroom, one with a queen bed and one with twins. The bathroom they share is spacious, though has only one sink. Downstairs, there’s a separate room with twins, and a fully-plumbed outdoor bathroom (quite luxurious, though not fully waterproof in the rain, and to get there requires walking 20 feet outdoors). Wifi was a little slow (for all 8 of us) but that kept us from being tethered to our devices. The property was very clean, and there were plenty of towels and an assortment of snorkeling equipment to borrow (though for our group of 8, a couple more snorkels would have been a plus). The ceiling fans kept everything cool and comfortable There’s lots to do within a 30 minute drive, but depending on what you’re looking for, it could be a little remote -- there’s not anywhere to walk to to grab a coffee or a meal. The nearest town is Pahoa, about 15 minutes away, and Hilo is about another 25-30 minutes beyond that. But it’s a fabulous base for both exploring and for relaxing and enjoying the views and the water, and it’s a truly memorable, gorgeous property. Highly recommended!"

  • Lovely home, great location.

"Very private house in Kehena, just a couple of miles from Kalapana, 8 miles from Kapoho tide pools and about 10 miles from Pahoa. Easy to get to lava viewing as well. Spectacular ocean views and nice breezes. Huge family room. The kitchen was exceptionally well-equipped, even with condiments and coffee and cereal. Loved the guitar and bongos. Unfortunately, there was a problem with the stereo and despite the efforts of neighbor Robert, who helps out a lot, we were unable to get it working. Oh, well, had to listen to the waves breaking below - such first-world problems!! Some things I've had at other HI rentals which would have been nice: ice chest, beach chairs and beach umbrellas but no big deal. I really can't complain, we loved the house and had a great time. I would definitely recommend this house to friends and would stay there again."

  • A Paradise!

"The house is perfect! It has all of the kitchen appliances necessary and almost every kitchen utensil one can think of. There are plenty of sheets and towels. The beds are clean and comfortable. The bathrooms are immaculate. The house is well lit inside and out. The water pressure is strong. The ambiance of the interior was definitely well thought out. It's simple but perfect and peaceful. This little gem of a home is surrounded in a paradise of beautiful trees, lush shrubs, and exotic flowers which provide plenty of privacy. I would definitely stay here again next time I come to the Big Island."

  • Romantic getaway

"The Bali Temple felt like and was a luxurious getaway. Beautiful view of the ocean across the lava fields from the palatial four poster bed, nice bathroom with fluffy towels and jacuzzi, comfortable sitting and dining areas, and well equipped kitchen. Thoughtfully decorated and stocked without feeling awkwardly lived in, it was a wonderful spot for our last 3 days on The Big Island, from which we explored Puna, Volcano, & Hilo. Hilo Bay Cafe was delicious but make sure to get an outdoor table. Loved the Ahalanui thermal pool in the evening, snorkeling at Kapoho tide pools, and walking to Uncle Robert's Market. Be here for that on Wednesday night! It was a highlight of our trip. Had hoped to see the flowing lava nearby too but it was not a 30-45 min walk from the parking area as the guards told us, but more like a couple hrs. After about 4 miles w/o appropriate sun cover or hydration, we turned back. After nightfall would be better than early morning but expect a significant hike in the dark. We loved the Bali Temple and would love to return someday to do things we didn't get to do in the area like the lava tree park, Champagne pond, hit the galleries and shops in Hilo, the botanic gardens and waterfalls north of Hilo, the black sand beach nearby, and return to Uncle Robert's."
