  • The pond....it's all about the pond

"Ahhh, the pond...I could go on about the lovely downstairs unit and it's open kitchen and dining area. Or I could discuss how convenient the location is for just about anywhere on this side of the island, but somehow my mind wanders back to the thermal pond that is all yours. When the tide pools or champagne pond is crowded there is your own private pond awaiting. Yes, it's close to the volcano, lava flows and the vibe of Pahoa; the Makuu Farmers Market, open mic nite at the local Kava/Kombucha Bar or the drive down the Red Road and then there is the pond where you can slide in and float in bliss, undisturbed at sunrise, sunset or under the full moon just steps from the door of the house. There is Hilo Town, and botanical gardens, waterfalls, lava viewing boat tours from Issac Hale Park and there is the pond that rises and falls with the tide and is always calling..... Needless to say we enjoyed our stay and I if I could figure out how to add an additional half star I would. The withholding of the other half star is the bed in the second room is in need of a serious replacement or at the very least a foam topper and pillow top cover. But after that moonlight soak in the pond, sleeping without those additions wasn't a problem! The location is excellent, clean and recently re-modeled, communication was clear and responses prompt from the owners, Have already recommended it to friends who frequent the area. Don't miss the Thai restaurant in Pahoa!"

  • A beautiful place

"We are just back from 12 days at Hibiscus House. It was our 4th visit and we keep on returning because, having tried a number of houses in Kapoho and elsewhere on the island, this is the place we enjoy most. The landscaping is very beautiful with an abundance of flowering trees and shrubs, the yard is large and the tide pool warm and very relaxing. We liked the new rock wall around it. The house itself is comfortable, spacious and nicely furnished. The kitchen comes with everything you need for food prep.We spend all our time out on the huge lanai. There's enough space that, with a number of family members visiting, you can still find a quiet place to read. This time we were all adults but we have visited with children and the place works very well for all them too. We so appreciate our holidays at this special home and hope to return"

  • Lovely, perfectly situated, well appointed cottage

"Everything about Hula Cove was super. Mike was a gracious, helpful host who provided every amenity and then some. The cottage itself was welcoming, airy, clean, comfortable and had everything a guest could possibly need or want. The washer and dryer were a nice bonus, as was the grill and the reef friendly sunscreen. The location is unparalleled; we literally walked out the door and into the tide pools which have amazing snorkeling. Magical setting, lovely property, great host. I only wish we'd stayed longer!"

  • KC's Paradise

"This was an outstanding location - the house was large and spacious, very well equipped and set up perfectly for two couples. Outside, there is a naturally heated pool which has a therapeutic effect. The famous champagne pool is in walking distance with the volcano only 40 minutes away. Pat, the owner, was gracious and informative - providing us with the best tasting bananas that we have ever had. We would definitely return!"
