"My husband and I shared this home with a friend while we were dropping off our kids at UHH. This home is AMAZING! The care and detail was outstanding, It is a truly beautiful home. The bedrooms and bathrooms were modern and amazing. The kitchen was beautiful, big and spacious with everything you need... I felt very safe and secure while we stayed there. The landscaping is very nice and the pool was spectacular! I had one small issue with WIFI, but one quick email to Melanie and it was resolved..... so quickly and had no other issues! If there was one thing I would add if I were them would be a TV in the bedroom with a master bath in it, even with that said this place is AMAZING and was perfect for our families and needs! It is a little off the beaten path but that is part of the beauty. Melanie and Todd were so easy to work with, I definitely recommend this home you will not regret it, I promise."

  • Relaxing Hawaiian Retreat

"My husband and I stayed here for 1 week as part of our 10 year anniversary trip. We wanted a place that would serve as a good base for us to explore everything from the green sand beach down south to the Waipio Valley up north. We also wanted something less than 30 minutes to Volcano NP as we knew we would spend 2-3 days there. As a bonus, we were hoping for a place that would feel relaxing and like a retreat at the end of a long day of hiking and exploring. The Hawaiian Hideaway definitely fit the bill and exceeded expectations in all of the characteristics we were seeking. First of all, the Hideaway is very clean! The owner gives guidelines to decrease the risk of bugs, and it's working. We did not see a single insect or bug inside of the Hideaway the entire time we were there. The cleaning service also does a phenomenal job, very thorough. The bed was comfortable and I loved falling asleep to the chirping of the frogs and awaking to the sound of the birds. What we enjoyed the most was the large screened in lanai. When we were there, we spent most of our waking hours on the lanai. Linda is extremely kind and a delight to talk to on the phone. I'm not usually one to reach out and talk to the owners, but in this case I did a couple of times and she is so incredibly sweet and nice to talk to, and she gave great recommendations. By the end of our stay, we were calling the Hawaiian Hideway "home." If my husband and I ever return to the big island we will definitely stay at the Hawaiian Hideaway again."

  • Great place to relax and enjoy the beach!

"My husband, infant, and extended family and I stayed at Steve's house for 4 nights recently. This was a great house! Prior to arrival, Steve was very communicative, a fast responder, and incredibly helpful. Everything was as described when we arrived, and from there we enjoyed thoroughly the beach across the street (and got to see some green sea turtles!), the beach gear Steve leaves at the house for his guests, the great space in Steve's house (large kitchen, large living room, great patio space, fun yard to explore, nice bedrooms and bathrooms, etc.), and the great location and proximity to Hilo downtown and Volcano National Park. We had a BLAST in Hawaii, and a huge thanks to Steve!"

  • Lovely home, in a stunningly beautiful location...

"Renewed spirit, indeed! This lovely home is comfortable, endearing, and located in a lush, well-kept neighborhood. We loved going for morning and evening walks, hopping around the lava rocks and marveling at the beauty of the tidepools. Sunrise over the tidepools was one of the most glorious sights I've ever seen. I fell in love with the sweet shy geckos that hang out here and there. One morning I thoughtfully pondered them, and googled all about geckos (the Internet is good here) while I drank local coffee from Hilo farmers market. (french press is in the cupboard). Great way to de-stress from the daily grind. :) The location of this home is well situated for exploring the east side of the big island. We also found several amazing farmers markets within 45 minutes from home base. We ate green papaya salad everywhere we went, so delicious! The very best was at the Sunday farmers market in Pahoa. It was made one salad at a time by a wonderful lady. Locals travel for miles just to get her green papaya salad, and as we all stood in a long but fairly quick line, we got to know one another, chatting, while all eyes were watching the harmony and precision of the salad preparations. It was worth the wait, I got 1+ spicy and it was TDF delicious! This was exactly what we needed, a great, beautiful, comfy spot to chill, on the days we felt like lazing about enjoying the immediate beauty, and a great home base for our island excursions. Mahalo, David and Nancy, for sharing and hosting this amazing place! ~ Kelly and Larissa"
