  • Absolutely Perfect Vacation Home

"The home was beautiful, with a perfect lay out. The open kitchen, dining and living room areas all had ocean views. The kitchen was well stocked with supplies and the basics, as were the bathrooms. The tide pools have wonderful snorkeling, with calm wander and hundreds of fish. It was never crowded, even on the weekend. The place is very private and very quiet (with the exception of the geckos, one of whom liked to chirp in the middle of the night!) Kirk, the host, was incredibly kind and responsive, the best we have seen with VRBO. It was only a little over 40 minutes to get to the end of highway 130 for the path to the Volcano viewing area (rent the bikes, it is a LONG walk), which was SPECTACULAR on our trip, and a little over 30 minutes to Hilo. Pahao is a short drive away. The market their is serviceable, though small. Given the remoteness we ate in most nights and cooked out own meals. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat on the Hilo side of the island this is the place"

  • Gorgeous home and surrounding Gardens!!

"We rented this home over the Thanksgiving holiday while visiting a family member at the University. The home is fully stocked with everything you need and grounds are beautiful! We even picked our own citrus out front and make fresh lemonade and made a beautiful bouquet for the Thanksgiving table. Melanie was wonderful to work with and even had great suggestions on where to eat out. Don't hesitate to rent this lovely property!"

  • Lovely house, stunning location, great hosts

"This was our fourth stay at Kehena Makai, and I'm already thinking about when we can return. We love this part of the Big Island, and this house has a unique combination of comfort and charm. The view takes your breath away no matter how many times you stay there. The intense sound of the waves crashing below is invigorating and meditative at once. The hosts are wonderful to work with. They really want you to be at home in their home. Just a fabulous place."

  • Cozy, cheerful, well-appointed and good location

"Highly recommend this lovely VRBO. It's obvious the hosts put lots of thought into ensuring a comfortable stay. They provide lots of extras such as flashlights, rain gear, jackets, bath salts and coffee. The lanai and garden seating areas are charming and were mosquito free. The bed is comfortable and the shower feels almost like you're showering outdoors in the forest when you open the windows. The house guide book contains lots of recommendations for restaurants, hikes, private guides etc. Even the light switches are helpfully labeled. We had a delicious dinner at the Ohelo Cafe and a wonderful lunch at Ono Cafe in their peaceful garden. We spent four days in the park and were impressed with the passionate rangers and volunteers, great hikes, the awe inspiring Chain of Craters road and, best of all, a boat ride to watch lava pour into the ocean. Once in a lifetime opportunity. Don't miss it. And the Treehouse is conveniently located to all of these wonderful experiences. We had good weather but it's also a great place to read by the fire on a cool, rainy day. Thanks for a wonderful stay Leslie and Michael."
