  • Authentic, Serene, Unique

"This is by far our favorite accommodation ever. This house was built with every detail in place, but with an eye for comfort and for peace. As soon as you enter the inner court, the stress is left behind and deep sense of serenity overtakes you. Then a sense of adventure leads you to every room, nook and cranny. There are many rooms in this house, outdoor and indoor: dining room, living room, sitting room, lanai/terrace, family room, bedrooms in far corners, bath houses and Japanese Ofuro (deep bath), a small devotional room as well and a wrap around lanai that takes you around it all inside and outside the compound. The inner court has a pond and a Japanese garden with fish, an occasional white cat passing by rather quickly and a mother hen with her babies strolling through (if you are into Miyazaki Movies, you will find yourself in his world). There are different points from the lanai where you can sit which offer different views points to the garden. There are also so many varieties of plants, it is like a botanical garden. I would highly recommend a guide book. There is one in the house, it is huge but doesn't cover all the plants found here. The Western style beds and furniture are highly comfortable and I would think on the luxury end of the line, the kitchen offers everything you need and is low maintenance. It was super clean and the owner was very accommodating and pleasant. The surrounding is beautiful and close to amenities. We have kids and we had a talk about keeping everything in the proper spirit of the place: they loved the place and were impressed. They played in the pool and went on discoveries and found 100+ treasures. Some spent hours drawing and writing. We have worked overseas for 15 years and have been in all kinds of buildings, 5 stars to 1 star, Western World to Third World countries and this is by far the most amazing and wonderful building we've ever been to. It is extremely hard to leave. This place would especially suit people with a high amount of stress, those bereaved or those who would want a new start in life or who would want to decompress from their stressful routine."

  • Beautiful and Relaxing stay on the Big Island

"A beautiful home awaits as the gates swing open and you are greeted with a driveway lined with trees and other flowering plants. The home was very clean and the layout worked very well for us. My parents and sister enjoyed the two large bedrooms upstairs while I used the downstairs which functioned as a small apartment on its own. The upstairs is very open and air with high ceilings and a small lanai off the dining area. There are views out to the back yard which is beautifully landscaped and features a lovely pool which we enjoyed every morning during our stay. The location works very well for exploring the eastern half of the island. A short 5 to 10 minutes stroll will get you to some views of the ocean. If you are willing to venture a little further down the road, a 15 to 20 minute walk leads to Kaloli Point, where you can stand on the old lava flows and watch the waves crash against the rocks. A truly worthwhile experience while staying at the house. We also explored some of the southeastern coast with a short drive to Lava Tree State Monument and MacKenzie State park for more views of the crashing ocean waves. The drive along the coast heading toward Kalapana also brought more spectacular views and leads toward the county lava viewing area. It was also a 30 minute drive to Issac Hale Park, the launching point for many of the lava boat tours, another unforgettable experience. The town of Pahoa, with several delicious restaurants was only a few miles south and Hilo is approximately a half hour north with many more restaurants and attractions to see. We also made time to stop at Volcanoes national park which was less than an hour away. We also drove north of Hilo up to the Wai'pio Valley Overlook and stopped at Akaka Falls on our way back to the house. The owners were very easy to deal with and very quick to respond to an questions we had. We would definitely stay in this house again on a return trip to the island. Thank You for sharing your piece of paradise with us."

  • Can review in one word --GREAT!

"The place of this property is fantastic. Driveway is tight but doable for anyone. Slider screens need a little oil, TLC, however everything was Fantastic! I would highly recommend this place and hope we can visit it again!"
