  • A Friendly Home

"I spent one full month in Halekepani House and I enjoyed it immensely. It is vast and comfortable, designed by people who wanted to live in it. You can tell from many details. Bedrooms have their own patio, with the biggest one suitable for outdoor dining and accessible also from the kitchen. The garden goes all around the property. The furniture meets so well with the spirit of the house, which then hosts all the tools, books, ornaments as collected in a lifetime, so you feel you are living in some close friend's house who is temporarily abroad. And very friendly are indeed the owners, Julie and Samuel, who live in another house just across the street. The street and the whole area is very peaceful, no through traffic, no disturbing noise, just bird calls … I wish I could return anytime soon in Halekepani."

  • Great Value for Beautiful Cottage

"We loved this cottage! The kitchen is stocked with every conceivable gadget, pot, cookware, cup, glass, dish, etc. Also, there were many items such as hot chocolate, tea, spices, etc. Cheryl's directions to the cottage were very easy to follow. We've stayed at Volcanoes Village in the past and have gotten lost on the back roads, but this cottage was easy to find. All the furnishings and beds were very comfortable and it was spotlessly clean. The grounds are lovely and we enjoyed sitting on the back lanai gazing at the stars. We ordered take-out from the Thai Thai restaurant and it was delicious and very reasonably priced. If you have the time, you must walk the 4.2 miles to the active lava flow. It was awesome. We are 65 and 68 and we walked it in 1 1/2 hours from the National Park side. Bring flashlights for the return trip."

  • Great apartment and centrally located

"Apt. has a great feeling about it and and wonderful views. Tasteful, tropical style decorating enhances the views of the pool, landscaping and observatory (when weather is clear). Apt is part of a complex set on the edge of a large lake and park and makes for great walking and duck feeding experiences. I highly recommend the apt and owner is pleasant to work with."

  • Gorgeous Home in Excellent Location

"This little apartment on top of Dave and Bonnie's home is gorgeous, relaxing, quiet, and in a great location! I was referred to this rental by a family member that stayed here a couple years ago. This rental property was perfect for our three night stay on the Eastern side of the Island. It is 20 minutes from the Volcano National Park and 30 minutes from Hilo. The property was spotless and had all the amenities we needed. The kitchen was also stocked with condiments, spices, pots, pans, water, etc. The fresh fruit was amazing and gorgeous fresh flowers decorated the apartment. We especially enjoyed eating dinner on the lanai and just relaxing in the rainforest/jungle atmosphere. The directions Dave gave us were perfect and our GPS worked as well to find the location. Thank you so much Dave and Bonnie! We will definitely be staying here again when we come back to the Island!"
