"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a great stay here. It was our 3rd stay at this location. I would say the pond is the best feature. We could swim anytime in the fresh/salt water pond. The lower level was very nice as well. 2 bedrooms, well appointed kitchen, living and dining area was one large open area. The only problem was the polyester sheets. I found them too hot to sleep on and so dug around for cotton sheets. The location is very nice as well. It is a gated community, so very safe. If we ever go back to the Big Island, we would stay here."

"We really enjoyed our stay in Pahoa. Perched on the second floor with a peekaboo view of the ocean we spent a lot of time relaxing in Elfy and Manfred's wonderful apartment. The unit was immaculately clean and furnished with the basic amenities as well as some special considerate touches. The king sized bed was so comfy, the kitchen had everything we needed including a dishwasher! Our hosts were so nice and helpful but we never had any need for assistance the place is so well set up. We appreciated the snorkeling equipment and chairs ready to borrow and used the washer and dryer several times. The internet in this location is a bit spotty, but we had plenty of books to read and it was good to "unplug". This is a second floor unit and I would not recommend it for anyone who has mobility issues. It is very well set up with windows on all sides and views. The location was a great base to explore the Hilo side of the Big Island. We found some great snorkeling at the Kapoho tidal pools about 15 minutes down the road. There are not many good swimming beaches nearby but we had access to swimming at the tide pools and the beach parks in Hilo. We loved exploring Hilo which has cute vintage shops a great selection of local food and beautiful garden parks. We went to several farmer's markets and they were all great! Wonderful fresh produce and lots of food and crafts. The Pahoa market on Sunday is especially nice. We didn't buy much produce as we were leaving in a couple of days but it had a bunch of resale booths that were fun to explore. Live music and good food and friendly people, we spent a fun morning there. There was also the very fun street fair at Uncle Roberts on Friday night, literally at the end of the road on the southern shore. From the parking lot (on the lava flow)we could see the steam coming up from the lava pouring into the ocean about 10 miles away. Uncle Roberts is an open air bar/restaurant hosting the Friday evening combination street fair, food fest and live local entertainment. The place was packed with locals, a colorful mixture of "hippies" and people like us escaping the mainland. Pahoa is not touristy. We did not see a single resort on this side of the island. But you do have easy access to the Volcanic park and the beautiful rocky coastline and the amazing peace and quiet. We came to the island for rest and relaxation and that is what we found. Thank you to our hosts for providing such a great place for us to stay."

  • Remotely charming.

"Owners were the best! Easy check in/check out. No problems that weren't fixed immediately (gate malfunction). The cottages are just right with all the amenities we needed. Mixed feelings about the Puerto Rican Coqui frogs singing all night, knowing they were invasives, but overall, a beautiful symphony especially as the frogs gave the stage to the birds each morning! Big Island is so big that if we didn't plan and pack our meals each day, we found ourselves eating out rather than driving all the way back to the cottage. There are interesting beaches, lava fields and quaint local activities nearby, but no more than two days worth for my adventurous group. However, there are tons of things to do within 1 hour radius! Will definitely stay here again."

  • Great stay. Excellent view. Would definitely go back to the same place. Have already recommended it.

"It is exactly as the photos show. Home supplies are provided, such as shampoo, dish soap, extra paper towels, toilet paper, garbage bags, even some bug spray (probably necessary in some cases being in the rain forest area, but we didn't need it). Been showing photos of the place to our friends, recommending it to them. It is a great remote location. all the recommended sites are within a few miles or right outside the door. The view is awesome."
