  • Gorgeous Home in Excellent Location

"This little apartment on top of Dave and Bonnie's home is gorgeous, relaxing, quiet, and in a great location! I was referred to this rental by a family member that stayed here a couple years ago. This rental property was perfect for our three night stay on the Eastern side of the Island. It is 20 minutes from the Volcano National Park and 30 minutes from Hilo. The property was spotless and had all the amenities we needed. The kitchen was also stocked with condiments, spices, pots, pans, water, etc. The fresh fruit was amazing and gorgeous fresh flowers decorated the apartment. We especially enjoyed eating dinner on the lanai and just relaxing in the rainforest/jungle atmosphere. The directions Dave gave us were perfect and our GPS worked as well to find the location. Thank you so much Dave and Bonnie! We will definitely be staying here again when we come back to the Island!"

  • We would stay here again!

"We stayed at the House of the Dancing Turtles for 9 days around Christmas. We had a great time and would stay there again for sure. The gated community is lovely and all of the houses in the neighborhood look to be well cared for, including this one. This property is very private; when you sit on the back lanai or use the lagoon, you will not see a neighbor and will feel like it is your slice of paradise. The back lanai is shaded and cool even during the heat of the day, and is a great place to sit with a cup of coffee during rain (because it does rain on this part of the island). The landscaping is jungle-like and lush. The kitchen has a coffee pot, microwave, stove, oven, rice cooker, toaster, and just about every pan, dish, gadget, or utensil you need to cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner there (which we did). We made a fantastic batch of lemon squares using lemons from the yard, which the kids got a kick out of. The laundry room/office makes checking email and doing occasional work easy and the Wi-Fi was reliable. We were able to watch our football team play because they have Dish satellite service. We did use the ohana which has a separate porch overlooking the lagoon and a small kitchen which gave those who slept there privacy. And the lagoon was amazing. We bought floating inflatable chairs with cup holders at the KTA grocery store and spent a lot of time just floating around there and watching the small fish and listening to the birds. The lagoon is deep and shady on one end and shallow and sunny on the other. It is the most lush and amazing back yard I have ever seen and we felt privileged to be able to use it. I had a lot of questions prior to our trip, and the manager answered all of them with patience and thoroughness, and we found her answers to be accurate and honest. This was our first VRBO rental and it far exceeded our expectations."

  • Rabbit and Dragon, Cool personal lagoon!

"Really enjoyed this house. A little off the beaten track, but worth it! Snorkel in the back in your own personal lagoon pool - with tidal shifts, fish, warm water and beautiful landscaping. Relaxing environs. Clean, safe, quiet - except for the coqui frogs (sounds like nature - amplified). Close to Volcano park, Hilo and Pahoa had some great restaurants. Snorkel gear, washer/dryer, towels, everything you need!"

  • Fabulous property, beautiful site - highly recommended.

"We had a marvelous 5 nights at this gorgeous property. The setting is spectacular -- it’s literally right on a collection of ponds and inlets, with kayaking and snorkeling available literally at your feet. The property itself is beautiful and in excellent condition, filled with beautiful Indonesian wood furniture, and the setting is quite private. We were two families with teen children traveling together, and we had a marvelous time sitting on the beautiful balconies staring at the ocean, snorkeling in the pond, watching the puffer fish get fed, and taking excursions to nearby tide pools, farmer’s markets, towns, as well as venturing out for zip lining, and hiking in volcano national park. We divided our Big Island stay between this property and a hotel on the Kona side, and we loved the mixture of sights and experiences, but this property definitely won the ‘specialness’ award. The kitchen was equipped for all basic cooking needs, and there’s a nice outdoor grill which we put to use. The master suite is gorgeous. There are two other bedrooms upstairs that share a bathroom, one with a queen bed and one with twins. The bathroom they share is spacious, though has only one sink. Downstairs, there’s a separate room with twins, and a fully-plumbed outdoor bathroom (quite luxurious, though not fully waterproof in the rain, and to get there requires walking 20 feet outdoors). Wifi was a little slow (for all 8 of us) but that kept us from being tethered to our devices. The property was very clean, and there were plenty of towels and an assortment of snorkeling equipment to borrow (though for our group of 8, a couple more snorkels would have been a plus). The ceiling fans kept everything cool and comfortable There’s lots to do within a 30 minute drive, but depending on what you’re looking for, it could be a little remote -- there’s not anywhere to walk to to grab a coffee or a meal. The nearest town is Pahoa, about 15 minutes away, and Hilo is about another 25-30 minutes beyond that. But it’s a fabulous base for both exploring and for relaxing and enjoying the views and the water, and it’s a truly memorable, gorgeous property. Highly recommended!"
