  • Perfect spot for ladies hiking adventure

"This was so ideal for our group. 3 bedrooms each with it's own bath for 5 "mature" women. Everyone loved the charming decor with ka'amaina touches. Being so close to the national park made the hiking convenient and great to have such a comfy place to come back to. We ate some meals out but loved having the ability to eat some meals in the well equipped kitchen. The surroundings were so beautiful with all the ohia trees and ferns. Kilauea put on a good show and we drove down to take the Lava Boat Tour to see the lava going into the ocean. What a special treat! I will return some time soon!"

  • Quaint, cozy, beautiful, perfect!

"This place was wonderful. It is in the rainforest on a volcano; what else do you need. Fern Studio was a perfect place to relax and sleep before and after exploring the rainforest and volcano on The Big Island. Elaine and Carter have created a comfortable studio with detailed amenities that makes this place feel like a home away from home. We loved the local art displayed in the room, complimentary macadamia nuts, water, and use of flashlights. This is the perfect place to explore Hawaii Volcanoes NP and the surrounding area."

  • Good central location for Volcano and Hilo sites.

"Clean and well appointed. Had everything we needed. Was a good home base for sight seeing. Was a pleasure to sit on the back deck and sip our coffee in the morning and listen to the birds and watch the geckos!"

  • Great location just outside the park

"This was a wonderful place that made us feel like we were staying in a treehouse in the middle of a rainforest. Perhaps the best attribute is the cottage is just minutes outside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The convenience allowed us to come and go to and from the park without worrying about a long drive ahead. A two night stay was perfect for us to explore a lot of the park. And have others have stated, the hot tub after a long day of hiking was wonderful. The bed was also extremely comfortable. One day as we were waking up, the house began to shake. We wondered what in the world that could have been. A few minutes later, a smaller but still noticeable shake. We come to find out that earthquakes are quite common in Volcano due to the lava flowing under the surface. We thought it was way cool and added to the stories we could tell from this side of the island. One small tip...if you're planning to see the place where the lava flows into the ocean, go in from the east side, not from the west side inside the park. Go shortly before dusk, make the 4+ mile hike or bike ride to the lava/ocean entry point, and be amazed at the beauty of nature. Overall we had an awesome stay and would recommend."
