  • Relaxing vacation

"I rented this home for 10 days for myself and my children (ages 13-29). My grandson was also there. He just turned 1. And my older brother. This was his first vacation and a beautiful one for him. We loved the flexibility everyone had to either relax inside, fish, snorkel, sun bathe or walk around to nearby areas. We did have to cross to the west side of the island for entertainment. It was a 2 hour drive to go to Kona for the luau and to snorkel at Capatain Cook's cove. Our hostess was on top of things. We stayed off our electronics almost the entire time--which speaks strongly of how satisfied everyone was. I have never felt so relaxed. Thank you!! Our only disappointment was the fact that there were no sandy beaches. Lava rock everywhere. The Rainbow waterfall and tropical botanical gardens were beautiful and close by."

  • back again for more Aloha and relaxation

"We stayed at the Cedar House 5 years ago to celebrate our 25th anniversary, and it was a no-brainer where we wanted to return for our 30th. The house was the perfect blend of relaxation and "things to do". We walked twice daily around the neighborhood and often down to the lagoon or tide pools. Close enough to Pahoa to get Pahoa Fresh Fish for lunch, a little further to Volcano National Park and the sweet little town of Hilo and beyond. The beginning of July meant the yard's mangos were ripe and falling daily, and since no one else was picking them up, nor the passion fruit down the street, we had lots of smoothie additions. Every chair, hammock, sofa and porch chair was super comfortable, the master-room bed was perfect (not too hard, not too soft!), and the large walk-in shower was very nice. We appreciated the pool noodles and snorkel equipment for borrowing. Thank you so much for all the nice touches....again!"

  • A Rainy week in Hawaii

"The weather was not anything we could alter. The accomodations were the only thing we couldchange. We would not change them for any reason. The house was perfect with all we needed(except for some sun) Even with all the rain, the roads were clear and safe. No drainage troubles on the property. Very clean and well presented.Great location. Lower level was perfect for 2nd couple or family. Tru;y a great experience. anxious to stay here again. 5stars are in order"

  • A Slice of Heaven!

"I chose this place for the lagoon described, the proximity to volcano np, great snorkeling nearby and many other sights worth seeing plus I didnt want to be among the tourists. OMG! This place was aaaaamazing!!! After what seemed like an endless flight, transfers, hiring the car my head was spinning and I felt quite ill. However when we arrived, despite it being dark, we went straight to the lagoon and were surrounded by the most magical sounds of singing frogs - I swear I could hear them answering each other! Over the next few days we found it quite hard to drag ourselves away from this place to see other sights. We even missed out on seeing the volcano!!! The house had everything we could ask for all in good working order, was very clean and very homely. I sat out on the veranda most nights and there was a noticable lack of mosquitoes! Might have been all the frogs and cute green geckos! The kids absolutely loved the beautifully warm lagoon with all the resident fish and I loved my night swims in moonlight or rain - the weather had everything but in that lagoon it didnt matter such was its perfect temperature. We are now in maui on the beach however I know I could have easily spent my entire holiday at the "house of the dancing turtles". We will definately be back for a longer stay to see more of the sights next time round. Just to add, we also partook in a day with Dawn Burke (Off the Beaten Path Eco tours). It was wonderful to connect with a local who knew where to go and what to do...and could get us to places that not everyone knew how to negotiate. It was my first time to Hawaii so it was invaluable getting Dawn's insight into all things Hawaiian. Thank you Jeana et al for making this property available. It was heaven indeed :)"
