  • Perfect for extended families and small children

"The layout of this property was ideal for our family. We had a total of 4 adults and 4 children (2, 4, 5, and 6 years old) for our stay. The two cottage layout with connecting lanai gave us the perfect mix of family time and privacy. It was fantastic being a couple minutes away from the beach. Every morning after breakfast we took the kids down to the beach for a swim and snorkel. Every morning we were treated to seals and turtles on the beach. The snorkeling was much better than I expected and was calm and shallow enough to take my 5 year old with me every day. There is also a sheltered, calm area that was perfect for my 2 year old. There is a shopping center within walking distance which leaves the option of cooking at home or going out without much needed planning in advance. The stock of equipment in the kitchen made it easy to prepare meals when we wanted to. The kids also had a blast running around the back yard grass area and the property is well maintained with fruit trees in the back. The owner is very responsive by email. The only negative (if you can call it that) is that only one of the boogie boards wasn't broken and there was an issue with the screen on the front door when we arrived, but these are really minor in comparison to the lovely experience we had. I would definitely recommend it and would stay here again."

  • Our winter home

"We have been privileged to experience two extended winter vacations at Hale O Ani and are returning again in 2017. That is probably, in and of itself, testimony to how wonderful this property is. But to restate the highlights and some additional insights I would like to share the following, much of which is supported by other reviewers of this outstanding property. First is "quality". Everything, in Hale O Ani is of the highest quality. The dishes, glassware, appliances, bedding, furniture, hardwood floors. The owners Faye and Bob are delightful, fun and responsive to needs and wants and willing to share their insights into interesting side trips. I could go on, but want to mention a few things that have proved important to us; particularly the surrounding area. When you leave Route 50 and drive up the road to the property it feels like entering Jurassic Park! The vegetation is so lush and stunning that in some places it is breathtaking. This sets the stage for a feeling of wonder and tranquility. When approaching the house from the driveway we’ve encountered Sharma Thrush singing their sweet and unusual song along with all sorts of other interesting birds. We have been fortunate enough to pick bananas off the trees in the driveway and stay long enough to eat them! The view of the palm tree from one of the bedrooms is like a live painting and the bougainvillea cascading over the hot tub in full bloom is outstanding. As a matter of fact it is the last picture I took before we left at the end of March. All in all Hale O’ Ani is a fabulous retreat, getaway, hideaway, or whatever one chooses to call it. All we know is that it is soothing to us, both inside the property and outside where it is positioned up in the hills far enough away from the hustle (but not too far) to feel like a sanctuary. We are grateful to be able to leave Upstate NY for most of the winter and now call Hale O’Ani, our winter home. Not visitors, not tourists. We come home in the winter…."

  • Perfect for our spring break with two families who shared CR1.

"This place was awesome! And affordable, which we completely appreciate since most things on the island are pretty expensive. I read somewhere that the owners try to keep it affordable so that families can enjoy their Kauai visit and I agree, so thank you!! The house had more than everything we needed. A few days were chilly and we kept busy with a hike and then just hanging out at the house playing basketball, ping pong and other games that were there. We so much appreciated the beach chairs, coolers, umbrellas, boogie boards, toys, etc. It really makes a difference, and now that I know all of that is there, I'd go back again. House was clean, it is older, but it really doesn't matter since it is clean and has everything that you would need. Having a pool was a huge hit. The big sliding doors opening to the beautiful yard and pool is really nice. The kids found lizards in the backyard. The house is close to the road and you can hear the cars but each room has a big fan and we would just run that at night and couldn't hear a thing. Thank you so much Gary and crew for everything. We had an absolutely wonderful holiday and will be back again!"

  • Great stay with Aloha

"The studio was perfect for our week stay in Kauai. We were welcomed by both owners, Julie and Darryl, with warmth and kindness. The unit is behind the main house and both owners are on site but we always had privacy. It is located in a quiet residential area; only 15 minutes drive to Poipu beach. The studio and linen were very clean. We found everything we needed for a comfortable stay in the studio. I would highly recommend this place. When we return to Kauai we hope to stay again!"
