  • Beautiful and spacious neighborhood home--Great deck and views

"We stayed at Lyle's place for two weeks in January 2016. The house was nicer even than represented in the VRBO pics and description. The owner, Lyle, was very responsive but completely unobtrusive, and we enjoyed privacy the whole trip and really felt like we were in a home--not a rental. Very spacious layout and large living space with wrap-around windows. We all especially loved the the deck which wraps around from front around to the back with stairs leading into the back yard. Our little ones (5 yrs and 2yrs) really enjoyed the front and back lawn areas, as well as exploring the new tropical plants within the landscape (Fruiting bananas, ginger, coconut tree--and my 5 yr old especially loved the "sensitive plant" which moves in response to touch). The home itself is perfect as a home away from home, complete with stocked kitchen (I enjoyed the blenders for all the fresh fruit we got from the farmers markets), very nice linens (a touch that my wife and mother-in-law really appreciated), nice private bedrooms with plenty of space. Two bathrooms were great to have (even a bonus third one downstairs in the garage if you have more people staying). We were three adults and two small children, and we had tons of room to spare--this house would easily accommodate a bigger family and more sleepers (I think that the couches pull out in the living room and the master bedroom has a large sleeping chair that we used a few nights for the 2 year old to pass out on). The bedrooms are on the quietest side of the house, which was great to muffle the only noise issue; the next door neighbors have 5 or 6 bulldogs which choose late night to not only bark, but also snarl in a really strange and primal way (this might be an issue if you have people sleeping in the living room). The house is an easy 5 minute drive (about 3 miles) from the ocean; close to Po'ipu beach--great kid beach, and good shopping in the more touristy Kukui ula shopping center [Longs Drugs, upscale retail shops, and fancy restaurants--we tried Merriman's one night, which was a very nice date night and delicious meal]. Close by still is the more rustic Koloa town with fun shopping and a more local feel. The only drawback to the house location is that as close as it is by car to everything, we couldn't really throw the kid in a stroller and walk anywhere from the house. All in all--We loved the house and felt completely at home here--we will definitely be repeat renters. Thanks Lyle!"

  • Our winter home

"We have been privileged to experience two extended winter vacations at Hale O Ani and are returning again in 2017. That is probably, in and of itself, testimony to how wonderful this property is. But to restate the highlights and some additional insights I would like to share the following, much of which is supported by other reviewers of this outstanding property. First is "quality". Everything, in Hale O Ani is of the highest quality. The dishes, glassware, appliances, bedding, furniture, hardwood floors. The owners Faye and Bob are delightful, fun and responsive to needs and wants and willing to share their insights into interesting side trips. I could go on, but want to mention a few things that have proved important to us; particularly the surrounding area. When you leave Route 50 and drive up the road to the property it feels like entering Jurassic Park! The vegetation is so lush and stunning that in some places it is breathtaking. This sets the stage for a feeling of wonder and tranquility. When approaching the house from the driveway we’ve encountered Sharma Thrush singing their sweet and unusual song along with all sorts of other interesting birds. We have been fortunate enough to pick bananas off the trees in the driveway and stay long enough to eat them! The view of the palm tree from one of the bedrooms is like a live painting and the bougainvillea cascading over the hot tub in full bloom is outstanding. As a matter of fact it is the last picture I took before we left at the end of March. All in all Hale O’ Ani is a fabulous retreat, getaway, hideaway, or whatever one chooses to call it. All we know is that it is soothing to us, both inside the property and outside where it is positioned up in the hills far enough away from the hustle (but not too far) to feel like a sanctuary. We are grateful to be able to leave Upstate NY for most of the winter and now call Hale O’Ani, our winter home. Not visitors, not tourists. We come home in the winter…."

  • Lovely Condo

"My husband and I enjoyed our stay in this very neat, well stocked condo. The Prince Kuhio is a very nice resort. Cooking at the grills was fun - we met very nice people. The owners guide which was e-mailed to us was very informative and filled with great suggestions. We had never stayed at this side if the island and really liked it."

  • Great Value compared to a hotel

"Best view ever, if you want to literally be across the street from theo beach, this is the home to rent. We normally have stayed at the big hotel Down the street and have paid a lot per room. This place has a way better view, you also have 2 good size bedrooms and bathrooms. A great kitchen with everything in it. They have thought of everything for providing guest, such as great tommy Bahama beach chairs, beach towels, umbrella, kids toys etc. the yard is huge, and is fenced which would be good for families. We loved the hot tub on the deck. It also had a huge BBQ. We walked to several restauraunts that were close by. It was wonderful being across from poipu beach. Nice to have your washer /dryer. The only thing that we would of liked to of seen in our opinion was " air conditioning". We were there on a week that there were little trade winds and temps in the high 80s and the house was uncomfortablly hot day and night.maybe on a typical kaui windy day, it would be ok. We also didn't find the beds to be that comfortable ( it's a firm mattress). In the non master bedroom, the twin or full size bed was kind of short for my dad that is 5'10 unless his head was touching the baseboard. The house was very clean, and we loved the bowl of treats the owners give to guest. Wifi worked well enough, it slowed a bit at night in back bedroom, but nothing major. Cable tv was good. We enjoyed the deck each day, (wish there had been a ceiling fan on it,and a recliner chair), but the table and chairs that are on it were comfy. We enjoyed seeing the large toads in the yard each night. The people and cars in front of the house were quiet despite it being on a residential street. We hope to back the next time we go to kaui!"
