  • Far Exceeded Expectations!

"This home was much more that we hoped it would be! From the kitchen to the beach gear we found this home to be a perfect landing place at the end of many long days. The beds were comfortable and grill was an added bonus! Being in a home also really made our vacation whole versus the times we have stayed at a hotel or resort, as we were able to stretch out and give everyone their own space. Lyle was very easy to work with and communicated at all stages. The pricing could not be beat and I can promise our next trip to Kauai will start with an email to Lyle! Thank you so much to the Otsuka family for sharing their home with us!!"

  • Even better than described...

"What a terrific vacation and what a beautiful location! The upstairs main room felt much bigger in person than the pictures reflect ( and it looks big in the pics) which was nice. All of the rooms were clean and well maintained upon our arrival. All beds were made with good linen and we had plenty of towels for the pool plus pool floats, noodles and boogie boards. We had no problems with anything either inside or outside the house. We made good use of the kitchen which was fully equipped for the 7 of us. The nearby beach really is just a few minutes walk away and so is Spouting Horn though you don't even need to walk there because you can see it from the pool. I strongly recommend a stop at Living Foods Market located in the shopping center by Long's. Their food was amazing. My friends and I ate there several times. Gale was attentive and responsive but not overly so in any way. I would not just recommend renting this home but would recommend renting any property from Gale. She was delightful. I certainly intend to book this home again and would not be surprised to be competing with my accompanying friends for future vacation dates."

  • Our winter home

"We have been privileged to experience two extended winter vacations at Hale O Ani and are returning again in 2017. That is probably, in and of itself, testimony to how wonderful this property is. But to restate the highlights and some additional insights I would like to share the following, much of which is supported by other reviewers of this outstanding property. First is "quality". Everything, in Hale O Ani is of the highest quality. The dishes, glassware, appliances, bedding, furniture, hardwood floors. The owners Faye and Bob are delightful, fun and responsive to needs and wants and willing to share their insights into interesting side trips. I could go on, but want to mention a few things that have proved important to us; particularly the surrounding area. When you leave Route 50 and drive up the road to the property it feels like entering Jurassic Park! The vegetation is so lush and stunning that in some places it is breathtaking. This sets the stage for a feeling of wonder and tranquility. When approaching the house from the driveway we’ve encountered Sharma Thrush singing their sweet and unusual song along with all sorts of other interesting birds. We have been fortunate enough to pick bananas off the trees in the driveway and stay long enough to eat them! The view of the palm tree from one of the bedrooms is like a live painting and the bougainvillea cascading over the hot tub in full bloom is outstanding. As a matter of fact it is the last picture I took before we left at the end of March. All in all Hale O’ Ani is a fabulous retreat, getaway, hideaway, or whatever one chooses to call it. All we know is that it is soothing to us, both inside the property and outside where it is positioned up in the hills far enough away from the hustle (but not too far) to feel like a sanctuary. We are grateful to be able to leave Upstate NY for most of the winter and now call Hale O’Ani, our winter home. Not visitors, not tourists. We come home in the winter…."

  • Best Seat in the House

"My wife and I stayed in this unit for 16 days starting on Jan 16, 2016 and enjoyed it thoroughly. The unit was beautiful and exactly as represented on the website. We had stayed in two other units in this complex previously but this one really stood out from the other two. The view from the 3rd floor is a commanding one (nice feature: even tho the unit is on the 3rd floor the building is configured in a way that requires only one flight of stairs. I have some mobility issues but had zero problems negotiating the stairs) and the building is designed in such a way that you cannot see the units to your left or right. The sunsets as viewed from the lanai are like God's own wide screen TV. I loved the newly installed wood floors because, unlike the carpeting we had in the other two units, the wood doesn't smell musty or feel perpetually damp. The unit has its own washer and dryer, which is a huge convenience and also a second bathroom, an even bigger convenience. With the 2nd bathroom my wife and I could get ready for the day simultaneously, which probably saved us an hour every day. We were there for 16 days so that's a LOT of extra time we could spend vacationing instead of drying our hair. This area is a GREAT location and close to an amazing array of cool stuff. The unit is well appointed and aside from a kitchen that looks perhaps a bit dated, everything is beautiful and functional. Time spent on Kauai is fantastic; staying here enhances an already wonderful experience. Bottom line: my wife and I loved it and in fact booked a return stay for 2017 in this same unit. Can I make one suggestion? Wood floors can scratch easily and it's imperative to keep them scrupulously free of any kind of dirt or grit. Even with us removing our shoes at the door we found that it was easy to track in, especially from the lanai where the lanai floor would accumulate debris blown off of the trees. I either swept or vacuumed every day to keep the floors clean. A $30 stick vac with an easy-to-empty dirt cup would make it a breeze to keep the floors flawless. The old canister vac is cumbersome and awkward to use. Just a thought. We had a fabulous time. Thanks for letting us use your home."
