  • Peaceful and Romantic

"We had such a lovely time at Hala Akamai! We picked this vacation home because it was walking distance to the start of the Kauai Marathon but it turned out to be such a convenient location for everything! This was my first time staying on the south side of the Island and, honestly, I can t wait to come back! Everything you could ever want is right outside your door with other adventures just a short drive away! The house itself was cozy and welcoming with everything you could ever need for a week relaxing in paradise! My only regret was we didn't utilize the grill and eat in more! Hopefully, we will have the chance to do so again! We will definitely be returning!!"

  • Great Family Vacation

"The house has a fabulous location. Close to the beach. Beautiful views of the ocean from the rooftop deck. The kitchen is well stocked with anything you could need. The overall house is very spacious (larger than we expected after viewing the online pictures). Our family included 3 generations and we all had ample space to spread out. Unfortunately the house does not have air conditioning. The trade winds were not blowing during our trip so we were toasty with only fans (and cold showers) to cool off."

  • Wonderful Stay

"We stayed for a week this past July. This home is beautiful and well kept. I do wish all of the bedrooms had air-two of them do not and several nights it was uncomfortable for our guests. We also had a problem with the air conditioning unit in the master bedroom blowing a fuse and it took 24 hours to fix. They did give us late check out for the hassle, so it was a fair exchange! Take advantage of the opportunity to book the Poipu Beach Athletic Club. We enjoyed taking the kids there and the little restaurant! We loved the location of the house, the views, the beautiful property, and the proximity to a variety of beaches and shopping!"

  • The perfect house for our Kauai vacation!

"I did a lot of research before choosing Akala Pua for our Kauai vacation. On paper, the price was good, and the house seemed to meet all our needs. When we arrived, I was pleased that everything was as advertised. As you walk in the front door, the ground floor has 3BD/3BA. This worked well for us, as each of our two kids could have their own bedroom and bathroom. The beds were comfortable. There is also a laundry room with late model washer/dryer. (This really came in handy as our clean clothes started to dwindle near the end of our stay.) Upstairs is a large room with living area, dining area (with large dining table), and a kitchen. The kitchen was well-supplied: the only thing we really needed to buy to cook meals was the food. This room has high vaulted ceilings that added to the sense of space. There were numerous windows all over the house that could let the trade winds in, and ceiling fans in every room. This allowed us to stay relatively comfortable during hot humid days and nights. The location was ideal. A five minute walk west on Lawai road takes you to Lawai Beach, which is a bit rocky, but has good snorkeling (you can rent snorkel equipment right there at Boss Frogs). A five minute walk west takes you to the Kukui’ula Shopping Center with some good restaurants and shops (and generally has several musicians in outside in the evenings to). For shopping, the Kukui’ula Market is about a block away (a lot less expensive than the Living Food Market in the shopping center!). A five minute drive takes you to the Poipu Beach Park, with great swimming/wading for the family, as well as some really good snorkeling. Restaurants in the resort/tourist areas are generally good but expensive. I recommend also trying out diners and cafes frequented by locals as the food is excellent, copious, and reasonable. You sometimes have to search those out. Here are a couple of suggestions: Tip Top Café in Lihue and the Waipouli Deli & Restaurant in Kapaa. We called the management company (Garden Island Rentals) once with a question. They were responsive and friendly. We had a great time in the perfect house for a family."
