  • Well-appointed and charming

"This is a beautiful, well-maintained, and conveniently located property-- I would recommend it to any travelers looking to stay on Kauai away from the busier resort towns. The space was much larger than needed for our party of two friends, but we enjoyed the luxury of our own rooms and en suite bathrooms. We got a lot of use out of the laundry facilities, great beach chairs/umbrellas/towels, and wide array of kitchen and picnic equipment, but most appreciated the lovely little yard and beautiful star views from among the tropical foliage. For a winter stay (December-Jan), the location was ideal for access to good swimming beaches. We enjoyed the beach parks in Kekaha, Waimea, and Poipu, as well as the lovely, low-key stretch directly across from the property. I would absolutely return to Hale Makai, and recommend it highly as a very comfortable and well-equipped base from which to enjoy Kauai."

  • Excellent Place for a stay on Kaua'i

"Kaua'i was our last stop on our vacation and the cozy little studio was just the right choice. After a day full of activities, we were always happy to come back to enjoy the beautiful private garden and cook a meal in the sweet garden kitchen. The location is perfect, in a quiet neighborhood, only 10 min away from beautiful Poipu beach and 30 mins from Lihue Airport. The interior is done really affectionate, with fresh-cut flowers. I would definitely recommend to others, not to book some random hotel but stay here. Thanks Julie and Darryl"

  • Well maintained property with lots of thoughtful consideration

"After having a less than satisfactory experience on the north end of the island it was a treat to arrive in Kekaha to this beach bungalow. The owners thought of everything that would make our stay more fun and comfortable and we relaxed and enjoyed ourselves here. The laundry facilites were excellent and the home was clean and well appointed. Lots of towels and extra bedding were provided, many condiments available in the cupboards and fridge, cool bikes and beach gear in the outdoor "shack", and there was even a first aid kit which was handy when coral got kicked and sunburn happened. Having one bathroom can be a challenge, but the outdoor shower more than made up for this. We would be delighted to return to this location on our next trip to Kuaui. Would have got 5 stars if a second bathroom was here"

  • Wonderful family home!

"We came here with our whole family to celebrate our 40TH Anniversary and our first grandson’s graduation from high school. 8 adults and a 4, 2 and 1 year old. It was great. Each family had their own “wing”. The house is so big that there was plenty of room, and sometimes we didn’t know who was up yet in the morning. The weather here is wonderful, never rained during the whole week. They supplied the beach towels and chairs and toys for the little ones. 2 kitchens, 2 living rooms, 2 laundrys – WOW! The waves crashing at night was wonderful as all but 1 bedroom faces the ocean. Brian and Milli were always available and helpful before and during out stay. We all want to go back for more!! Mahalo to Brian and Milli!"
