  • Perfect Spot for Whale Watching!

"We stayed at Mort's Port from March 1st - 15th 2017. Everything in the condo was as advertised and it was perfect for our group of 4. Let's start with the view, which is why I booked it in the first place. Bring your zoom lens and tripod. I took over 1200 photos on this trip, all but about 150 of them are of whales. I took most of the shots right from the 3rd floor lanai or from the shore line on the property. If you are going to Maui to see whales, stay here. The grounds are nicely landscaped and very well maintained. The pool is a decent size and is heated . The building also has a couple of elevators and a luggage cart making it super easy to move in and bring in supplies. We used the gas grills by the pool to cook dinner several times. The condo was clean and is extremely well equipped. The kitchen included all the pots and pans you need to cook a gourmet meal. There was a great selection of spices in the cabinet, plastic containers, baggies, paper towels, silverware, plates, glass and plastic glasses. Basically everything you'll need for your stay. The real bonuses were all the other stuff, like beach chairs, beach umbrellas, snorkeling gear for 4, two coolers plus a giant Costco cooler bag, pool noodles, a spotting scope and a set of high quality binoculars, a mini stereo, flat screen TV's, comfy beds and furniture you can get comfortable on. The unit has a wall-mounted A/C in the living room which cools the entire unit, but also gets a good breeze, so we only used it on hot calm days/nights. The ceiling fans combined with the provided portable fans, worked great most of the time. The location is just a few blocks away from the Maalaea harbor, where most of the whale watching boats depart. We took 3 whale watching trips and a snorkeling/whale watching trip to Molokini while we stayed there. Prices for these tours were very reasonable. The Pacific Whale Foundation parking lot is literally at the end of the short street the condo is on. There are a few restaurants and shops at the harbor, and the condo is a quick drive to Kihei, which has tons of good restaurants, shops, beach parks and a Safeway. It only takes about 15 minutes, on the best 4 lane divided highway on the island to get to Kahului where the airport, Costco and Walmart are all located. Lahaina is also only a short drive up the coast. We obviously loved staying at Mort's Port and when we come back to Maui, this is where we'll stay again. I'm really glad I found it."

"We had such a fabulous trip!! Loved the updated condo and the location . The unit was clean, well stocked and super comfortable. We enjoyed walking on the beach which is a short walk from the complex. Ron was wonderful to work with and very helpful. We look forward to coming again and will recommend this place to others."

  • perfect location; beautiful unit

"We had a hard time trying to decide where to stay during our first trip to Maui--it turns out that this little condo unit in Ma'alea is the PERFECT place to use as a base. It is quiet, has a great beachfront location (a wonderful, long walking beach right next door), yet is also a quick drive to both the Kihei (10 mins?) and Lahaina (20 mins) areas, and an easy drive to the upcountry and Haleakala. The condo itself is, as others have said, very very well stocked--much appreciated for a week-long stay. We cooked at home a few times, and used the coolers and other beach equipment a couple of times as well--it was great! We were there during peak whale-watching season, and saw several whales right from our balcony, which was a fun, unexpected treat. Checking in was easy, but we *did* have to call 3 times to get in touch with the local management company to get the final steps on the instructions. (It was after hours, and he said he was helping others, but it took nearly 30 minutes to talk to someone. Not a deal-breaker by any means, but after 12+ hours of travel from the US East Coast, it could have been a little easier--all we needed was the keycode, which someone could have texted rather than make us wait--something to think about for the future.) The owner (Arnold) was a HUGE help and very responsive, even sending some very practical advice ahead of time about where to go shopping. (Be sure to bring your Costco and Safeway cards!) THANK YOU!! I would DEFINITELY stay here again if my plans take me back to Maui....and I hope they do!"
