  • Across from Wailea Beaches for Kihei Price

"Located on the border of Wailea and Kihei, this very well appointed condo is quite a find. Hard to beat the price for one of lowest density condo complex in this area. Lovely garden view looks out to the open horizon, instead of a view partially marred by another building or parking lot. Since the owners periodically live here, there are many amenities provided throughout the condo, from filtered water to flashlights to thermal shopping bags, so convenience abounds. Loved to gaze at the ocean view each morning by sitting in the high chairs and table on the lanai. Glorious sunsets nightly, silhouetted by towering palms nightly. Folks that live or rent here are very respectful about keeping voices and noises down to keep the lanai a relaxing experience. I love cooking and it was a joy to have a kitchen overflowing with top quality pots, pans, stove and oven instead of the cheap tinny stuff one usually finds in rental condos. Pantry and fridge were nicely stocked with spices and other communal goods/condiments left by previous guests and well maintained by the cleaning staff. We weren't bothered by mosquitoes here, but it is a bug's life in Hawaii, so creepy crawlies may visit if you don't clean/sweep up. Diligence is required to keep food in the fridge or tightly sealed or stored in the many plastic containers/canisters provided. No need for an air conditioner, even when the temps hit 86, as the screen doors on opposite ends allow for the tropical breeze to keep things pleasant, supplemented by very effective ceiling fans. We truly appreciated the 1.5 bathrooms, which was pretty essential for the sanity of a family of 4. The beautiful dual head, large shower stall is a wonderful treat. Absolutely LOVED the numerous clothing/towel hooks on the walls, so essential for beach life. Huge comfy master bedroom bed with memory foam top you dissolve in to. Fan/light control switch right next to nightstand was a nice convenience. With the screened window open for the breeze, you will hear the road noise, but the repetitive two seconds of vehicular "swoosh" easily melts into the soundscape. We enjoyed leaving the car behind by strapping on the beach chairs and umbrella for brief commute by foot to the gorgeous white sand beach, a short 5 minute zig zag across the street. Loved to walk on/along the beach boardwalk to the 5 star hotels to enjoy a drink or linger in the lobbies, but not pay 4 digit prices to actually stay there. Aloha!"

  • Fabulous!

"This condo was adorable and Kihei Sands is just as fabulous. Everything was clean on our arrival, and we were even greeted with a pineapple! I was worried when we arrived because the bedroom is right by the front door, but the bed was cozy and everyone at Kihei Sands was really respectful and quiet during the night. Even though this exact condo isn't directly on the beach, the complex is and it is awesome. We would just walk off of the patio and the beach it RIGHT there. I know some reviews mentioned the near by construction, but it was a total non-issue for us and it would not keep me from coming again. Allison and Tony were great hosts, and were quick to respond with any questions I had. Also, the property managers at Kihei Sands were extremely helpful and gave us a lot of suggestions for places to eat and things to do. We will definitely be back and staying again!"

  • Life is what you make of it

"Overall, the condo was great and well equipped for our needs. View: The view was greater than 180 degrees, elevated about 30+ feet off the ground. You are only 30 feet or so from the ocean as well, so it's all right in front of you. The only issue I had with the view was that the fronds of a palm tree sits right in the middle of it all. I'm sure in 10 years the tree will be taller and thus not block the view, but it is currently a little annoying. Pool: Not heated, so it was much cooler than the ocean. Many permanent residents like to lay by the pool during the day, using up almost all of the chairs and making me feel guilty for bringing my 3 year old to splash around for an hour. Beach: Great beach. The fishpond protects the beach on premise very nicely. It acts as a barrier for the big waves and leaves nice gentle waves no matter which direction or how hard the wind is blowing. The entire fishpond is walkable, as the deepest I found it was up to my chest (I'm 5'7"). The sea turtles that live in the fishpond are fun to watch, but I would hope that people respect them and keep a certain distance. Bed: We found the bed comfortable, though I can see how some might find the mattress pad too soft. If you don't like it, you could always just take the pad off and put it back when you leave. Futon Pads/No Fold Out Couch: My assumption was that the couch was a fold out for sleeping, but it turns out there are futon pads in the closet for sleeping on. For an adult, they were not very comfortable. Thankfully it was perfect for my kids, they didn't mind. Just know that as of our time of stay, there was no fold out couch and the pads are somewhat thin. Lack of AC: Some have complained that the unit got too hot. There are many fans as well as ways to open windows. If you open the window in the bedroom, it gives some great cold air at night. Yes, outside that window is the walkway, but such is life. My advice, just open some windows, leave your winter pajamas at home, and enjoy the weather, it's why you're there. Condo Extras: The condo had beach toys for our kids, some nice beach chairs, some basic kitchen necessities, binoculars, and some basic bathroom necessities. It was nice to have those ready and waiting for us. Location: Central to pretty much anything you would want. Condo Overall: Yes, it needs some updates and the carpet has some stains. It's still a nice condo and I highly recommend it. Thanks Bob!"

  • Multiple positives

"We chose Waiohuli Beach Hale unit 215 in Kihei. I can report many positives and only a few nitpicky items. First, during the winter, Maui experiences heavy winds and rain. Good news is Kihei is located in dry portion of Maui. In mornings the winds were light but many afternoons the trade winds were quite strong. Unit 215 had an additional benefit in that the lanai was shady the whole day long (85degree sunshine is hot). The lanai also had a good view of ocean, gardens & pool area. Since our primary selection process was a large ocean view lanai, where we spent most of our time, we were not disappointed. Condo property is oceanfront and unit 215 is a very short walk to the beach. Walked the beach several times during our 16 night stay. Snorkeling was a no-go due to breaking waves right on top of the protective reef making it unsafe. There are other beaches nearby for snorkeling. Yet, we did watch our resident two large turtles surface close along the shoreline. Also liked meeting friendly residents during the conch shell tribute to sunsets. Easy walk to grocery, multiple restaurants, bars, etc. (Eat at Fabiani's!) The 1 bedroom condo (580 sq ft) had sufficient room for us. Stairs did not present an issue for us active seniors. Interior décor was nicely furnished and unit clean. Bathroom has 1 sink, toilet & walk in shower. We were furnished with beginner supplies like paper towels, toilet paper, storage sacks, aluminum foil, dish soap and bathroom soap, extra shampoo, toothpaste, lotion, etc. Our king bed was comfortable & came with soft sheets plus selection of pillows. We did not use the A/C in the bedroom (there is only one A/C which was for bedroom use only) since by opening the louvered windows in bedroom & living room we got plenty of cross ventilation with overnight temps of 68 degrees kept us cool along with ceiling fan. Even though we did not cook there was ample kitchen items to do so. The kitchen has high quality finishes. Nitpicky items: Several homeless people seemed to hang out daily at front property entrance. Motion detector light shines into bedroom at night. Lanai bar height chairs were uncomfortable if we sat for very long. Very loud bird woke us up at 6:30am each morning. With windows open sand, dust & ash blew into unit & made everything dirty. Lanai not private enough. Daytime 85 degrees & no wind made living room hot without A/C. Heated pool was cool to us Texans (maybe not for all the Canadians there)."
