  • Whales cavorting offshore! Need we say more?

"Makena Surf is a super location to watch whales and snorkel. Far from the bustle of Lahaina. The lanai facing the ocean gives you views of Molokini off in the distance. Kitchen is very well equipped with beautiful counters and cupboards. Dish soap, paper towels, coffee, and a welcome basket of local treats! Everything you need to enjoy Maui -- gas grill, boogie boards, noodles, beach chairs, beach mats, beach towels. Literally, steps from the beach and snorkeling where turtles are frequently seen. Showers to rinse off sand and salt. Other amenities include pool and hot tub, tennis courts and herb garden. Minutes from fine dining at Longhis, great ice cream at Lapperts, Humunumu (you know that little state fish...), quick food at several places. Drive south 5 minutes and snorkel at Makena State Park (a protected natural area) to see every fish imaginable. We caught a glimpse of an octopus today! Hint for newbies: avoid sunburn by wearing a rash guard shirt and long yoga shorts when snorkeling."

  • review of makena surf unit B-204

"Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This unit met our expectations. The kitchen was well equiped. The furnishings were fine. The unit has a great view and is only a short walk to the beach. Very relaxing. The only drawbacks were the lower dishwasher does not drain properly and the deck umbrella stand is badly rusted and needs to be replaced."

  • real hawaii

"My sister and I and our three daughters spent two weeks at this wonderful home in August. It is situated on an out of the way section of the old Makena Road and has privacy and the feeling of old time Makena. It's really a home that has warmth and personal touches but fully appointed with a great grill and very comfortable beds and a nice big washer dryer. The ocean is right there for turtle watching and there is a large beautiful beach just a few minutes walking distance down the road. There's plenty of space and comfortable sitting spaces to watch the ocean sunset. It is a distinctly Hawaiian home - nothing generic about it. We were all very happy, kids and adults."
