  • Wonderfully peaceful!

"It was my first trip to Hawai'i, and I wanted a nice, quiet place at which to recharge, and from which to explore other parts of Maui. I found this location through the VRBO website and was very pleased with my selection. It was an easy 25 minutes drive from Kahalui, and only 15 minutes from the small town of Paia and nice north-side beaches. The owner was very helpful on my first day in orienting me by phone, letting me know of a local grocery store in Paia and some surrounding attractions. The beaches were not busy, the water clear, with big waves (but not too big for swimming!), and some beaches are dedicated to surfing only. This location was close to the famous Mama's Fish House (I recommend booking restaurants via the Open Table app, or calling ahead, as there is always a waitlist otherwise), and an easy drive to other areas of the island. Kaanapali is only about 1 to 1.5 hours' drive from here. Very do-able on any day where it's raining in Haiku but not on the other side of the island. The property was well-kept, everything worked (plumbing, hair dryer, fridge, lights, etc), and it had the beginnings of a self-sustaining vegetable garden, and eco-friendly atmosphere. Each unit here (I think there were three guest suites, and one unit for the property manager) had its own parking space. The one-bedroom I rented was pleasantly decorated with colorful waves and fish. It fit nicely with the feel and energy of the island. And the little yurt was a good space in which to do yoga when I sorely needed some quiet, stretching time, surrounded by lots of light and a pleasant breeze. I didn't use the pool since I went to the beach each day, but it was nice to have nearby. I'd consider staying here again."

  • Home away from home

"The main house is beautiful and shows a different side of Maui. It's a great spot for taking the Road to Hana, visiting Haleakala, or checking out Paia. We enjoyed all the wildlife and animals we got to see on our visit - from the wake-up calls from the numerous birds and roosters, to the friendly cats and dogs of the neighborhood. Regina was great in giving us recommendations (Grandma's Coffeehouse) and we were lucky enough to be provided with fresh eggs from the chickens! We really enjoyed our stay, away from the resorts and hustle of the other parts of the island."

  • The house is lovely!

"We had a wonderful time in Haiku and exploring Maui. The house is beautiful and spotless. Seems brand new. Our kids stayed in the loft, which they loved, but the house is an open plan, so if one of the adults was up later than the kids, keeping the lights on in the living room was a problem for getting the kids to sleep. Just FYI. The bathroom is enormous and again, seems brand new, but there is only one, so plan ahead if traveling with a crowd. We loved being able to cook meals there instead of having to go to restaurants for every meal. And having a washing machine & dryer was super handy. It's a set of small stacked machines, but they work great and we got all our clothes washed before coming home - bonus! The hosts live next door and could have been there if we had needed anything, but it was smooth sailing and we just had nice chats with them in the driveway. We had 6 people in our party - 2 adults couples and 2 kids - so each couple took one of the bedrooms and the kids had the loft. The bedrooms are very large and the furnishings are stylish and contemporary. It was about a 10 minute drive to Paia, 15-20 minutes to Kahului and the airport, depending on traffic. Beautiful spot. Would highly recommend."
