  • Clean and comfortable cottage on a beautiful island

"The cottage is cute, clean and comfortable. The bed was huge and comfortable and the shower was great! Plenty of towels and linens and the kitchen had everything we needed. We would definitely recommend this cottage. The only drawback, for us, was that there is no private patio or deck to sit on - it is attached to their main house, and, although Marianne and Gary were lovely and very gracious, we would have preferred our own private space. Aside from that, we had no complaints. It is exactly as advertised."

  • Quiet and peaceful home

"This home reminded me of old plantation home with nice porches overlooking the ocean and jungle. There is a carport to park your car under which may seem like a "so what". But a big convenience when you are packing the car up in the rain. We loved the peace and quiet and the comfy bed. We thought we might have a mosquito issue but didn't see one. There is a new ac unit however the evening rain and breezes cooled us off better than anything. The home is about a mile from the road to Hana so we got an early start missing all the crowds. We continued on driving the circle and stopping at beaches along the way. We actually enjoyed this part of the drive after Hana more though it is harrowing. There is a great beach Baldwin nearby. It did not have good reviews but it was perfect and we noted lots of patrols keeping everybody safe. Two more tips ... don't follow google maps Jennifer's directions are better and the dryer works by pulling out the dial. If it is alarming just give the dial a short pull. The only meal we ate out was at the cannery in haiku. The lunch special was fantastic."

  • Magical, peaceful, beautiful place!

"We have stayed at the Aloha Cottage twice and would highly recommend it. The cottage is a unique, octagon-shaped building with a super comfortable bed (which matters to me because I have a really bad back). The whole place is very clean, well-organized, tranquil, and lovely. The hosts have thought of everything, with a stocked kitchen for cooking, a TV and DVD player, a washer and dryer, a BBQ, a sweet two-person shower, big closet, helpful guidebooks, and a great outdoor jacuzzi tub. Each time we thought of something we wanted or needed, voila, there it was: bug spray, a beach chair, a cooler, etc. I adore the overhead skylight. There is plenty of room for a couple, and a good amount of outdoor space with chairs and table if friends come over for dinner. So, it's got everything you need while on vacation. But beyond that, this place is special in a way that no check list of amenities will convey. The property is just stunning, and the outdoor patio is one of the most peaceful places I've ever been. Beautiful nature surrounds you with a great, positive energy when you are there. We love staying Upcountry, where the pace is slower, the crowds thinner, and it's just way less touristy. The Aloha Cottage is close to the charming downtown Makawao, full of cute local shops and boutiques, a beautiful forest for hiking, and an easy drive to Paia. We plan to stay there again on our next trip to Maui! It's also a great location if you want to do the Road to Hana, Seven Sacred Pools, and Haleakela. Things you should know: there is no A/C, but we kept windows open and it cooled down nicely at night. Prepare for mosquitos at night in the summer. It's up a flight of stairs to get to the cottage, so not accessible for people with mobility issues."

  • Unique jungle setting

"We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful location for 3 nights in early Jan with another couple and it was everything we could ask for! Seeing pictures is one thing but when you set foot inside for the first time or on the wrap around deck, the quiet serenity takes your breath away. Being two couples, the privacy of the two bedrooms being located on far either side was great, and separated but a spacious living and dining area. Cooking there was so enjoyable. Just keep in mind there is a stove top, toaster oven and microwave but no oven. Also there is a small bbq outside. Having your morning coffee outside while listening to the various birds is unlike anything else. Thank you for a lovely stay!"
