"I just returned from spending one month in Haiku for the birth of my sweet Granddaughter. I was delighted to find that the Kokomo cottage I booked exceeded all my expectations! The Owners, Gary & Marianne Callari made my stay so enjoyable and comfortable. I now consider them "family". The cottage is adjacent to the Main house but still gives you the perfect amount of privacy. It has everything you need to feel like you have all the comforts of home. Marianne has a wonderful knack of decorating her properties with a talented eclectic eye. So fun and a departure from everyday living!! It's a true Hawaiian Upcountry style of life. The weather in Haiku can vary from rainy, windy and sunny within minutes, so be prepared for a fun ride. The rain is wonderful to hear on the roof and allows for a lush, jungle-like vegetation year round. Then, two minutes later the sun pops out and you can drive to the beach! The cottage is located so conveniently to the darling Paia, Makawao, Hula and Pukalani towns and The Road to Hana. The up-country lifestyle is a well hidden secret (far less tourists) and I enjoyed every minute of it. The property was clean and well maintained and the Callaris' were there to help with any needs or island suggestions. There wasn't anything I went without.....I grew very attached to my sweet cottage and hated to leave it and my friends. Book with no hesitation!"

  • Secluded utopian paradise.

"We arrived on Maui in the early afternoon, and after a dreamt-about lunch at Paia Fish Market..we continued down Hana Highway in search of our home for the next ten days. Pulling off the main road, we were led down a meandering driveway, which built the anticipation as we found ourselves in a tunnel of dense foliage, and fern-covered walls on either side. Rounding the final turn we saw our grande abode! The home's driveway features one covered spot-which helps keep you dry while loading up for day-trips if its raining out, but has room for up to 4 cars if you have large group. The first thing you'll notice is the excellent wrap-around porch, which can be closed at the entrance to help keep young kiddos in if you've got them with you! We made time to sit outside and look out over the many well maintained gardens, perfectly curated by Susan over the years. The interior of the home in warm and grand, featuring some excellent architectural features, like reclaimed wood flooring and exposed beams running the length of the house. Chris is quite the craftsman, and his attention to detail can be seen throughout the home. The amenities were as promised, a large gas stove which we used often, and a washer and dryer. The kitchen is great to cook in, and there are plenty of utensils, pots and pans, bowls, plates etc... If you have the your shopping in town before heading to the house..but not too much bulk at Costco because the fridge is a little small...luckily there's another one in the garage! The propane grill outside was suitable for our needs, was clean, and the tank was full. There is a full shower/bathroom downstairs, with a half bath upstairs. The master bedroom-a charmer with double doors opening to a private deck, and excellent natural lighting-features a very comfortable bed and it's own private full bath. Water pressure throughout the house is great, and gets as hot as you need it. With the home being on Solar power, we found no issue with any feature, but we were conscious of our electricty usage throughout our stay. The only downside was cel. phone reception and wireless was spotty at best..but we saw it as an opportunity to disconnect, and enjoy the company we were with. Stores are not "right around the corner", but Haiku Market is just up the road, and has everything you'll need about 20 minutes away. Overall our stay was wonderfully memorable, and our hosts; gracious! Highly recommended for those looking to check in, to check out!"

  • nicely appointed Shangri-La right in the center of Paia

"if you want to enjoy tranquility and relax on a lanai surrounded by palm and mango trees, while having only steps to walk to downtown Paia, then this is certainly the spot. The spacious apartment has everything the heart desires. For those who are not into going out to dinner to the numerous spots within 5 minute walking distance, there is a fully equipped kitchen. The apartment has internet, TV, nice bathrooms, BBQ... can't even name everything that was available. There is laundry on site as well... too much to name. This was my second time here and I am so impressed with how much care and though has been given to the place. It's truly a gem!"
