  • Absolutely No Reason to Stay Anywhere Else on Maui

"We recently returned from our first trip to Maui and while the overall experience was amazing, my favorite part was this home. First of all Alain and Katy were wonderful to work with - very responsive to questions and emails leading up to the trip and provided all the information necessary to make the arrival and stay as pleasant as possible. We were two couples and house provided more than enough room and privacy. It literally felt like we were in our own private reserve complete with banana, coconut and lillikoi trees. The pool and hot tub provided the perfect way to end each day. The house was fully stocked, probably better than my own home - we went to the store daily and prepared most of our own meals and had almost everything we needed without having to run to the store for things like utensils, cookware, spices, etc. This was very much appreciated. The location was perfect for us - while the west side of the island is beautiful (we visited), our group enjoyed the more laid-back nature of the up-country. The town of Pa'ia and Haiku provided us with the majority of our needs but yet the central location made the island's abundance of activities within a 30 minute drive. It is literally on the Road to Hana (not for everyone) and we also made day trips to Wailuku, Wailea, Kihea and Maalaea, golfing in Pukalani, and a number of beaches. The house is within minutes of a few great spots including the Ho'okipa Lookout which is a great spot to watch the local windsurfers and traditional surfers - amazing - and Mama's Seafood (which was just average in my opinion). Another wonderful find close to the house is Haliimaile which was one of our favorite spots. Go to the General Store (hopefully Tristan will be working the bar) for a great selection of cocktails and fine whiskeys/scotches - we only ate appetizers but wished we had done dinner there instead of Mama's. Across the street is a distillery with some great Vodkas - missed the tour but it will be on our schedule next time if we get back. I have already recommended the Maui Pole House to my friends and encourage anyone to put it on their consideration list if you are looking at staying in Maui. The only constructive feedback (and this is grasping at straws) is lack of air-conditioning which is not all that common anyway but it rained frequently while we were there which forced us to close the windows. This could be a drawback for some but the house cooled down quickly when the windows were open."

  • Beautiful retreat!

"Mahalo to the Bamboo Valley in for their gracious hospitality and amazing amenities... It's truly the little things, like making beach chairs and beach towels available, that made our stay easy. The lanai is just gorgeous to take in the Hawaii experience with your morning coffee or meditation. Thank you for furnishing us with this beautiful home away from home. Would DEFINITELY stay here again :-)"

  • A Real Hana Gem

"We loved staying in this beautiful home! It is such a treat--lovely setting and a wonderful house that is well-appointed and aesthetically pleasing. Booking was simple and the owners were great to work with all throughout. We are so glad that after driving the road to Hana, we had a restful place to stay. We cooked both nights and this is one of the best kitchens in a rental we've used. Highly recommend!!"

  • Absolute Perfection! Stayed 8 Days...Did Not Want To Leave!

"There are so many special things to say about The Star Lookout Cottage. Walking passed it for the past 5 years on visits to Upcountry, we ogled it and could finally get a reservation this year! It is even better than my wildest dreams and I know it will be always in my heart. Already have our reservations for next March! Otherwise...not sure I could leave! Okay...the features! The cottage sits at around 3000' on the slopes of Haleakala. Expect weather! Beautiful breezes...sun...mist..clouds...down poring rain. That can all be in one day...or over several. The main room is very comfortable for looking out, reading, the large screen tv is here, fast wifi, the fully equipped kitchen, a full bath and the best raised sleeping nook enclosed by light curtains to use or not. The large decks are filled with chairs, the best 2 person hammock, a table. Incredible sunsets from here as well as delightful bird watching! We never used the inside wood stove, the outside fire pit or the outside hot tub! Amazed by the super cleanliness of everything! Silverware, best knives ever, luxurious linens! There is also a separate bedroom and incredible full bath that you access from the front porch. It has a full closet, plenty of unpacking space, a very comfy queen bed, night tables, and a most fabulous bathroom! Sandstone counter top...incredible shower, over counter sink! Tasteful and perfectly remodeled! We switched back and forth for sleeping! The stars from the 'star bed' in the living area are simply was the light of the full moon, eventually. Planets! The Milky Way! It was great for us to have the option of the other room which was darker! I seriously had to force myself to sleep from the excitement of the night sky! Located on incredible Thompson Road, where very, very people have homes...Oprah's ranch estate is one of your nearest neighbors and it's .8 of a mile away. Great areas of Maui are easy to get to. We spend a few days in Wailea, here and then time in Hana. Clearly, we love peace and quiet. No bar scene, no crowds, no pools with slides here! Just the awesomeness of hiking trails, biking, birds, flowers, Mana Market, Yee's marvelous mangoes(okay, the stand is 50 minutes away in Kihei and worth the drive) and we love The General Store in Halimaile for lunch. We walk to very popular Grandma's Cafe for breakfasts from here. Longest review I have ever written! My only regret is having not stayed here before!"
