  • Maui, Papakea A403

"Our family of five rented A403 July 4th for 10 nights. The condo is everything as advertised. There was more than enough room and would have easily fit the 9 as advertised. The view from the lanai was outstanding. One morning we saw a turtle 20 feet from the shore directly in front of our unit, sunsets are unbelievable. We utilized the grills, enjoying our dinner from the cabana with a front seat for the sunsets. The condo was very well stocked, a full kitchen, plenty of cooking utensils, pots/pans, spices, it was just like home. It was a bonus to have boogie boards, beach chairs, umbrellas and a cooler. Another nice find for the kids was the DVD player has the netflix app. The condo's WIFI kept the teenagers happy, access to their phones and Netflix late at night. Definitely recommend"

  • Everything we hoped for!

"We are a family of 5 (kids 21, 19 and 14) who stayed for 13 days towards the end of August. This was our first time in Hawaii and our first time renting through VRBO. We chose this unit after reading a number of very positive reviews and speaking with the owners. We are a bit picky and would spend the extra money if in doubt. Our understanding was that the unit was very clean and comfortable and that the resort, though a bit older, was very well maintained. Happily, this is exactly the case. We had a great time and would definitely come back again. Michael (the owner) was a pleasure to deal with and very professional. He gave us a lot of tips and very easy to follow instructions about check-in, resort towel cards, parking etc. On arrival, everything was as expected. The unit is very clean and well maintained. We're a little bit obsessed with staying cool (actually cold) and the air conditioning was just right. The beds were comfortable. Our 6'2" 19 year-old slept fine on the better-than-average pull-out couch (sometimes these are a nightmare). Cable and wifi was top notch. Washrooms were clean and showers worked great. The kitchen is well appointed and we used the high-end barbecues near the resort's tennis courts often. The resort is very well maintained. A newer garden pool is great, though at times, a bit busy. The other pool, ocean front, is more traditional, but very nice as well. We were worried about the beach, which in some pictures looked almost non-existent and in some reviews was described as not overly impressive. It's a beach in Maui, meaning that it is inherently beautiful. There are other nearby beaches that of course are stunning. We spent most of the two weeks at Fleming and Slaughterhouse. There are beach chairs, umbrellas and boogie boards in the unit. I would suggest bringing your own beach towels for trips to other area beaches. We bought ours at Costco when we loaded up with groceries. The restaurant in the resort is good for lunch. It is not as good as the Beach Club resort next door, a two minute walk. It does not pretend to be a five star place. It is the best 3.5 you can imagine; very comfortable, well-equipped, everything worked. We were trying to get in Honua Kai (for a LOT more money), but, as it was last minute, we could not get a unit. So happy we found this. Definitely coming back."

  • Great unit for family

"We returned to Kaanapali Shores 26 years later. The resort has been well maintained. Our unit was very comfortable and updated. Great space allowed our teens privacy. Kitchen was well stocked. You got used to the noisy Mina birds but after a while it became white noise. Awesome views of rainbows after the odd shower. Parking was easy and enjoyed the BBQ facilities. We were able to set up account to charge to our room which was very convenient. Excellent place and we had a fabulous time."

  • Amazing First Time in Maui

"Wow! First time in Maui for a family birthday. We rented the 2 BD 2 BTH enough room for 4 adults and 2 kids, Konea and had a partial ocean/mountain view. Favorite thing about the condo was the lanai, we had it open as long and as many times as we could. It was super quiet and very sound proof, you couldn't even hear the birds chirping in the morning until you opened the lanai. A few draw backs, but I would still stay again, are the following. The dryer vent to the building needs to be cleaned out. It took 4 hours to dry 2 towels. We where there 10 days and needed a mid week clean, change sheets and towels. We didn't ask for this, but I think it should be included in the $350 cleaning fee. It also needs some shelving in the laundry room or above the blank wall by the dishwasher, no room for dry goods because all the cabinets were taken. Drinks from Duke's restaurant by the pool were too expensive for what you got. $10 US for one drink that is maybe a 12oz cup and filled with ice, because it melts so fast is outrageous, people want value. We only had a drink at happy hour. Last day we had a midnight flight back home and we asked about a courtesy shower after being at the pool All day, they don't offer that! You cannot even use the Spa showers. Disappointed that you pay $600 per night and the place is first class, but don't offer anything like that. It would be nice. Great things were Steve at the management company. He was super helpful, friendly and informative. Great suggestions from him. Duke's restaurant was delicious and super convienent. Everything we had was fabulous, expensive though. Rental included a cooler, beach chairs and towels. That was very useful, we used daily. Overall we would return again and stay at Honua Kai. We really enjoyed our time there Lastly, we arrived late on a Thursday and the unit wasnt available, the rental company suggested we stay at the Courtyard Marriot by the airport and stop at Costco and Whole Foods before arriving. We did this and it was a fantastic suggestion. Saved money not getting to the condo at midnight and then had all our shopping done!!!!!"
