  • Gorgeous, spacious, and perfect for families

"We've been to Maui multiple times and stayed at various locations, and our stay at Honua Kai was one of the best ever. We would absolutely stay there again and have already recommended it to some friends and relatives. Will was great with communication and we had all the info we needed as far as check-in, etc., and the condo had everything we needed. Most of the other reviews reflect this same info, and for good reason - this place was fantastic. Here are a few thoughts to keep in mind in case you're trying to decide where to stay: 1) This is basically a 2 BR/1 BA condo. The "den" is a bedroom with a door and everything - but it lacks a closet and window, and it shares a bath with the master. Since it's listed as a 1 BR with a den, you might be concerned about space. Don't be. It's plenty big for a family of 4 (kids aged 9 and 4), and we didn't even use the sofa bed. 2) The views are great. It's not facing the ocean (though you can technically see a portion of it off the edge of the deck), and it faces the mountains. If you're okay without an ocean view, you're probably not going to do better than this in the Kaanapaali area. 3) The condo is situated on the outside of the building, facing the other building on property. There's a large grassy area between the two buildings that opens up and affords the view mentioned above. Because of this alignment, the condo is really, really quiet. You're not on top of the pool, you're not facing any construction or a road or a parking lot. There's nobody gathering in the space between buildings. 4) There are LOTS of kids at this property. It's mostly families. The pool areas are designed for this. There's a waterslide and multiple kid pools. 5) The on-property restaurant, Duke's, is pretty good. Given it's location, it could have been sub-par, but we enjoyed several meals there. The gourmet market is good as well, but expensive. The good news if you're trying to save money is that you're literally across the street from a grocery store, and the condo has a full kitchen. 6) I can't speak for the rest of the property, but this condo does not have daily maid service. We knew about this going in, and it's priced accordingly. This was a non-factor for us. We are definitely going to keep this property at the top of our list the next time we travel to Maui."

  • Amazing Place for our Honeymoon!

"My husband and I stayed here for the last leg of our Honeymoon and it was amazing! The view from the lanai was breathtaking and even when it rained a few days we enjoyed our coffee and listening to the ocean! The condo had everything you could need from beach gear, coolers, and more. The location is not just great for the view but you are also right next to the pool! It was a great week in paradise! Everything was great and would definitely stay here again! Lori and Dave"

  • Amazing eight days in paradise

"This was our second year staying in a condo as opposed to a hotel for our Maui getaway. The Whaler is an amazing complex right on Kaanapali beach (and I mean right on the beach!!). Unit #357 was a great choice as well. My wife and I loved the huge living area, with massive sliding doors, which we kept open frequently to enjoy the sounds of the beach. The lanai was situated in a perfect location to watch the ocean, and see the sunset, yet it was fairly private. There is basically no wind on that side of the building as well. The owner provided just about everything you will need to live comfortably during a stay here. The staff is awesome, always with a friendly "aloha" or "mahalo". I would not hesitate to rent this unit again, and we will visit the Whaler again FOR SURE!!! Thanks Ron!!!!!!"

  • Family friendly, clean, well equipped

"First off, let me say we were welcomed by a nice Aloha spirit goodie bag loaded with treats from the island. Such a nice welcoming thing for the owner to do! The unit is located at the front of the complex right by the lobby and parking which makes it so convenient for golf cart pick up to the beach, loading and unloading, trips to the cafe/sundry store inside the lobby. However, it is still secluded enough that you still feel away from any distracting hustle and bustle. The view from the patio when the construction is finished will be very nice. I think one would be able to see the pool and the ocean when it is done. Right now, we have a slight view of the construction but still have a nice shot at the ocean. The construction crew is only here Monday-Friday 9-5 with breaks for lunch. So for us, it has not been an issue at all. We are rising early because we are from Eastern Standard Time so we are done with breakfast before they start. When we eat lunch, they are breaking for lunch, and when we eat dinner they are done for the day. All the rest of the time we are out enjoying the beach or other wonderful island sites. The kitchen is incredibly equipped with everything you could possibly need. There is a washer and dryer that is so practical for families. There are boogie boards, a beach chair, and other assorted beach things available for use. There is a small patio grill at the unit that we used for quick lunches and then bigger BBQ grills very close by on the property for use as well. The beach cabana is very nice with showers, restrooms, chairs, and towels available for use. We are a family of 5 and the unit is plenty big enough. All the kids have their own bed and we have 2 showers which is great when we are all trying to get ready. This place has been like a bit of paradise for us and we will be sad to leave. Hopefully we will make it back some day and we would definitely stay at this unit again. Mahalo! 🌺"
