  • A week wasn't enough!

"The week we spent in this unit at the Royal Kahana flew by and we were sad to leave. We have been coming to Maui since our honeymoon there forty years ago. We have stayed at other places on Maui, both hotels and condos, including the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua, but none were as spacious or had the beautiful 180 degree view we had on this trip! One morning, while having coffee on the large lanai, we saw a double rainbow and every evening there was a sunset like you see in all of the travel magazines! The amount of room in this unit was incredible even with four people staying in it! There was a powder room for guests or children. During our week, we invited friends over for dinner (twice) and it never felt crowded. The kitchen was very well equipped and the bar/counter over looking the kitchen provided a convenient place to lay out pupus and drinks while guests watched what was cooking. It felt like home. The Royal Kahana has the usual resort amenities like a pool, workout room, tennis courts (not in use at the time) and a poolside coffee stand. For the disabled, there are ramps and elevators. There is also plenty of parking with designated handicapped spaces near the front doors. The staff we met were friendly and showed their aloha spirit. The only down side to the trip was there wasn't a sandy beach due to the geological shifting of the sand which has affected many of the West Maui beaches due to winter storms. Walking within two blocks are the Maui Brewing Company pub great for lunch and dinner; a Whaler's General Store which has the usual sundries and a deli that sells poke'; a MacDonald's for the kids (Spam and rice for breakfast anyone?) and the Hawaiian Village Coffee which opens at 5:30 a.m. and has good coffee and assorted goodies. A short drive up the highway past Napili up to Kapalua will take you to Merriman's and to Sansei Sushi. And, if you don't mind waiting in line, try The Gazebo for breakfast which overlooks Napili's lagoon. All are unique in their own way. We recommend checking out the Royal Kahana. It would be hard for us to return to Maui and not stay in this exact same unit! The owner, Tim O'Conner, was very helpful when we were planning our trip and was attentive to any questions about the property once we were there. Mahalo, Tim, for our best trip to Maui."

  • Wonderful Hawaii 5-0 birthday on Maui!!

"This was our first trip to Maui and our second time renting a condo via VRBO. We rented this particular condo for two weeks (October 22nd to November 5th) and had a wonderful stay here. Booking online with the owner was a simple process and Jeff was very helpful with some tips prior to our arrival. The condo as well as the entire condo grounds at VIR were very clean, comfortable and well maintained. The views from this condo were incredible and we never got tired of waking up to the sound of the waves and the island of Molokai in the distance. We got to see several rainbows from the lana'i during our stay. That view never gets old! My husband and I felt very safe staying in this area and the complex was nice and peaceful the two weeks we were here. There was a nice cross breeze throughout the condo when you open the bedroom window and never had an issue with no AC. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was well equipped however some of the knives could use sharpening and perhaps a thicker lounge chair cushion for the lana'i would be a nice upgrade. The condo owner has a wonderful selection of books on Hawaii and some other reads that we enjoyed during our two week stay. We also really appreciated the push carts that are available for use at the front entrance for bringing your luggage and grocery items up to the condo. We used the barbecue area several times and found all the utensils and the BBQ very clean. We rented beach chairs and snorkel gear from The Snorkel Store at the Fairway Shops down the road and bought a couple beach towels at the ABC store. There are several wonderful beaches that are very close to the condo as well as on the south side if you have a car rental. The Happy Hour at Sea House near Napili Bay was good and the views are gorgeous! All in all my husband and I really enjoyed our stay so mahalo Jeff for opening your home to us and we hope to come back again soon. Cheryl"

  • Great location

"This condo was what we were looking for for a 3 generation family reunion. The ocean was literally steps from the condo and nice grounds to play on although not much shade and could be hot in the afternoon. We had our adult son and daughter with us, their spouses and each couple has a toddler. It was perfect for each couple to have their own room and bathroom. The water and dryer was a big plus with little kids. The location couldn't have been better. There is a wonderful gentle rarely used beach just out in front of the condo, beyond a nice lawn. The beach stretches up to the left providing plenty of space for a group but we rarely shared it with more than 3-4 other groups. Close enough to kanapali and kapalua to enjoy them but nice to return to the quiet and sanity of this property. Nice lawn and small pool. The beach isn't great for body surfing but perfect for swimming and bobbing around in waves with kids. Large turtles sunned on the beach on the afternoon. All the body surfing beaches are very close by. Peter was very responsive and easy to contact. The pictures are accurate and we found the bathrooms and kitchen to be clean and well supplied. . There is a collection of masks and water chose left by previous renters in the bench in the deck. We ended up renting portacribs, high chair and beach umbrellas from Maui Baby Rentals who were fantastic, delivering them before our arrival and picking them after our departure. Our only issue was the carpeted areas had not been cleaned well. Debris and some items from previous renters were found under beds and furniture and behind curtains. We called the local manager who sent cleaners immediately which we appreciated although it was a quick not very thorough cleaning. With no vacuum available to us in the condo we weren't able to clean ourselves. I did contact Peter who was very dismayed to hear this. I haven't seen this posted in other reviews so maybe it was a one time oversight. Peter has said they are talking to the cleaning agency about this. I trust it will be rectified. Overall we were happy with the condo and would stay there again."

  • The perfect place for our week

"We loved staying in this area, Kahana. Jill was so was easy to communicate with. Check in was simple with the key box arrangement. The condo was very clean and had a fantastic view to the west. We slept with the doors open at night, the breezes were great. The complex is quiet, no loud party groups in the area. The kitchen was equipped with all that we needed to make breakfast and dinner at home each night. Decor is attractive and seating is comfortable. WiFi worked great, and the TV has tons of cable channels. There are many groceries in the area, and the Costco is minutes from the airport for a big shopping haul. The bathroom is very good, decent towels, nice shower with great water pressure. The bedroom is large with lots of storage space. Sitting on the porch at night watching the sunset with a cocktail can't be beat, and there are many sea turtles that hang around the sea wall there in the afternoon. The crashing waves at night will take a day or 2 to get used to, but they are fantastic. The best beaches are minutes away. Bring your own body soaps and shampoos, and eat FISH."
