  • Nice Condo - Wonderful Location

"We enjoyed our stay at the Kuleana Resort on Maui. The location was absolutely wonderful. There is a seawall with black lava rock just in front of the condo with small beaches to the left and right with access just steps from the front door of the building. One beach was sandy with a large tree if you wanted shade and great for swimming; the second beach had no shade and had a few more rocks but better snorkeling. If you swam over or used the sea ladder to get in the area in front of the seawall there were lots of fish and some coral. This was also the area where we saw sea turtles up on the rocks trying to eat the seaweed. From the patio on the condo, you could look down into the water and see the turtles under the water. We appreciated the ease of getting to the condo and the terrific directions and info sent to us before our visit as well as the book of local info (loved Maui Brewing Company!) in the condo. We felt that the beach and the location were absolutely the stars for this vacation rental and we would rent it again, but it is due for a little TLC. On the positive side, the Tommy Bahama beach chairs were awesome and the boogie boards (?) were also fun just to lay on in the water, and the cooler was great but we didn't use it since we were so close to the condo. We picked up some noodles to float around on and left them for the next visitors so the beach supplies rate an "A." The kitchen is well stocked with things to cook with but it might be time for some new flatware and drinking glasses. The patio furniture was comfortable and clean. On the negative, the carpet in the bedroom definitely needs to be replaced and that in the front room is matted and probably will be ready to replace soon. The lock box in the bedroom closet was not working when we were there. Just a few other things we noticed (kitchen cabinets that could use a good wipe down around the handles, wobbly leg on the coffee table, lots of use showing on furniture in the bedroom and front room, a couple of rusty pieces of patio stuff in the flower box on the patio) show that the condo is well used and could use a little more in the way of maintenance and maybe updating. With that said, we found the kitchen and bathroom to be clean and looking good and the mattress is really comfy. We would have wished for a little more space but in Hawaii, who stays inside anyway??"

  • A week wasn't enough!

"The week we spent in this unit at the Royal Kahana flew by and we were sad to leave. We have been coming to Maui since our honeymoon there forty years ago. We have stayed at other places on Maui, both hotels and condos, including the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua, but none were as spacious or had the beautiful 180 degree view we had on this trip! One morning, while having coffee on the large lanai, we saw a double rainbow and every evening there was a sunset like you see in all of the travel magazines! The amount of room in this unit was incredible even with four people staying in it! There was a powder room for guests or children. During our week, we invited friends over for dinner (twice) and it never felt crowded. The kitchen was very well equipped and the bar/counter over looking the kitchen provided a convenient place to lay out pupus and drinks while guests watched what was cooking. It felt like home. The Royal Kahana has the usual resort amenities like a pool, workout room, tennis courts (not in use at the time) and a poolside coffee stand. For the disabled, there are ramps and elevators. There is also plenty of parking with designated handicapped spaces near the front doors. The staff we met were friendly and showed their aloha spirit. The only down side to the trip was there wasn't a sandy beach due to the geological shifting of the sand which has affected many of the West Maui beaches due to winter storms. Walking within two blocks are the Maui Brewing Company pub great for lunch and dinner; a Whaler's General Store which has the usual sundries and a deli that sells poke'; a MacDonald's for the kids (Spam and rice for breakfast anyone?) and the Hawaiian Village Coffee which opens at 5:30 a.m. and has good coffee and assorted goodies. A short drive up the highway past Napili up to Kapalua will take you to Merriman's and to Sansei Sushi. And, if you don't mind waiting in line, try The Gazebo for breakfast which overlooks Napili's lagoon. All are unique in their own way. We recommend checking out the Royal Kahana. It would be hard for us to return to Maui and not stay in this exact same unit! The owner, Tim O'Conner, was very helpful when we were planning our trip and was attentive to any questions about the property once we were there. Mahalo, Tim, for our best trip to Maui."

  • Beautiful view.

"You have all the comforts of home with a spectacular view. The description was accurate and property was well maintained. We did not have any problems with the owner or property manager. Did a Helicopter excursion with Maui Air thru Barefoot Tom"s, that was exciting and fun. All the restaurants in Lahaina are very good and Cannery Mall had everything we needed."
